Reminder: UFC 113 counter programs Strikeforce 'Fedor vs Werdum' tonight (June 26) on Spike TV

Ufc113-counter_medium

Spike TV is once again hosting a special encore presentation of a recent UFC pay-per-view (PPV) when the cable network goes head-to-head with Showtime tonight (June 26) at 10 p.m. ET.

Featuring a light heavyweight rematch between two of the world's top 205-pound athletes, UFC 113: "Machida vs. Shogun II" will counter program the upcoming Strikeforce: "Fedor vs. Werdum" event set for the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.

In addition to "The Last Emperor," Strikeforce will feature Women's Champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos against Jan "Cuddles" Finney as well as a rematch between former middleweight champion Cung Le and Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith.

Is that enough to outdraw a couple of Brazilians, Kimbo Slice and a Canadian piledriver?

The UFC seems to think so. Here is a list of the featured bouts for Saturday's Spike TV presentation:

Star-divide

205 lbs.: Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio Rua
265 lbs.: Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione
155 lbs.: Sam Stout vs. Jeremy Stephens
185 lbs.: Joe Doerksen vs. Tom Lawlor
170 lbs.: Marcus Davis vs. Jonathan Goulet
185 lbs.: Patrick Cote vs. Alan Belcher

This latest counter-programming effort should come as no surprise.

The UFC and Spike aired a special presentation of  "Ultimate Fights" to run opposite the Strikeforce "Heavy Artillery" event from St. Louis back on May 15.

Of course most fans who want to see both cards will DVR one broadcast and watch the preferred one live -- or simply flip-flop back and forth between the bouts that don't hold their interest.

Which one of those descriptions best fits you? Let's hear it Maniacs, what are your plans for tonight's MMA programming?

Sound off!

Already have UFC 113 on my DVR when I purchased it back in May

May not be able to catch SF this weekend but will set the DVR to record.

They are trying to sell this strikeforce card as a ppv here in Australia, what a joke. Nothing appealing on this card from the lopsided main to the unwanted rematch and cyborg eating a small girl alive. Can’t believe they expect Australian mma fans to pay a full ppv $ for this. Get fucked.

Brutal

SF should all hang themselves for such stupidity.

I’d rather watch UFC 113 again then watch three very one sided ass kickings from SF.

I’m sure there will be new discussions on Machida vs Shogun. I go with Fedor vs Werdum.

The best thing about UFC counter-programming

I love it when I see the UFC offering old PPV’s for free. It is a reminder to me that there must be a good live event on somewhere. It’s almost acts like a commercial for opposing organizations. Everytime I see the UFC ad, it reminds me that Fedor must be fighting, and I need to watch. Thanks for the reminder UFC, I almost forgot to tune in to Showtime tonight :)

if you almost forgot...

then the fight really isn’t that exciting, is it?

Can’t understand how someone picks watching an old event rather than an alive one.

i agree with you but

to the more casual fan its like watching an old pro event with modern recognizable names compared to a live minor league one full of hasbeens and rejects from the ufc

its almost laughable to hear people call SF UFC Rejects...

overeem? Fedor?

those that flushed out were young on a losing streak like lawler etc, and SF doesnt pick up trash like Kimbo slice and claim hes a fighter…Hersh Walker IS A FIGHTER…

really sad that the UFC has people so brainwashed…other than the elbows, I really dont see THAT BIG of a talent different SF to UFC, in fact, I would put money on the MW division of SF over UFC,

man you will have a dilemna on your hands

when jon jones fights anderson silva at 205 (that fight will probably happen to) jones will be the first man to knock out the spider. hopefully break some bones too

I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Fedor: He once had an awkward moment in the cage, just to see what it feels like. Sharks have a week dedicated to him. He would show his feminine side if he had one. He is a lover, not a fighter, but don't get any ideas. He is the most important man in the world. Stay thirsty my comrades b/c i will never fight in the UFC. Sorry Fedor but in America Budweiser is the King of beers and Lesnar is a clydesdale while Fedor is just a mule. Beating Werdum proves nothing. Beat Lesnar, Carwin. JDS, Velasquez or Overeem and i'll be impressed. Just one of them.

"I would put money on the MW division of SF over UFC,"

LOL. Really? How much?

You can’t be serious?

Are you talking excitement level(Shields and Hendo haha) or if this was a battle royal? Selling power?

What are you picking SF MW over the UFC MW in? A beauty pageant?

Don’t forget that the UFC has the top 2 guys and the top guy is the P4P King right now.

cant understand why people ask this old ass question

UFC has been doing this forever and someone always has to ask this stupid question. Here is the answer for the 100th time since you dont understand! ITS NOT FOR THE HARDCORE FAN…its for the casual MMA fan who happens to be changing channels and comes across the UFC on spike. There, please dont ask again! and its for those that dont have Showtime, that way fans can watch an old UFC and wont feel left out if they dont want to go the internet way.

There is a shit load of casuals that don't rent the PPV's.

That is why they are doing this. Most of them have never heard of or seen Fedor so they will definitely be watching the UFC show tonight.

Or U could of just downloaded the fight right after...

Do not get why anyone would bother watching these old cards when there is the ability to download the fights…yes and it’s illegal too! (Shock) lol

Strikeforce is on Showtime. They might draw more with Fedor this time out but numbers shouldn’t approach cable, especially not the CBS show that drew 4 million.
