Dan Hardy or Jake Shields? Doesn't matter to Martin Kampmann...
Props: MMA Weekly
Quoteworthy:
"Dan Hardy would be a great fight I think. Alves and Fitch are matched up, and Hardy don't have an opponent right now. He's fighting right around the same time I'd like to go. I'd like to fight around October, maybe in November, so that fight would be perfect for me. I'd be happy to take that fight for sure. [Jake Shields] would definitely be a good fight as well. He's tough and he's ranked real high in the welterweight division. For good reason, I didn't expect him to beat (Dan) Henderson, he's definitely good. I'm ready for whoever. I just want to fight guys that's ranked in the top ten, top five. The higher the better."
A motivated and resurgent Martin Kampmann, fresh of his UFC 115 win over Paulo Thiago, sets his sights on the rest of the UFC welterweight division -- starting with Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy. Of course it would be just fine for "The Hitman" if he was the UFC welcoming committee for Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jake Shields, who may (or may not) sign with the world's largest fight promotion at some point this summer. Anyone think the Dane is biting off more than he can chew? Or is Kampmann good enough to hang with either fighter?

I see Hardy beating Kamp but Kamp beating Jake on his feet…I don’t see Jake being able to take Kamp down
Fedor invented a language that incorporates Sambo and Kimuras.
So next time FEDOR is kicking your ass, don't be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.
I think Kampmann would be able to take Hardy down for the win, and keep it on the feet against Shields
I think Shields would definitely be the tougher fight here. I think Martin learned his lesson against Daley and would be smart against Hardy. Both of these matchups would be great to watch though.
I think he beats jake easily on point by keeping it on the feet...
But for some reason, I think Hardy gives him a close fight. Maybe Kampmann by split-D.

He had no problem taking Dan down, so I can't see it being a problem with Martin.
Dan has much better wrestling (even though he doesn’t use it) and is much bigger.
I agree with Bow.

Exactly
Jakes wrestling and top control will be too much for Kampmann whilst Martin will be too technical for Dan on the feet and the ground, though Hardy has the power to give Martin problems.

I hope
This would be a good fight and a good addition to the uk card in October, what would the main event be though?

Agreed...
Kampmann looked great against Paulo. He earned one of these fights.
I agree with you on Hardy but not so sure about Jake
I see Hardy as similar to Semtex who KO’d Kampmann. Maybe he has trouble with heavy handed guys. I see Condit as similar to Jake who gave Kampmann some trouble. Only Jake is bigger than Condit so may offer even more difficulty. Either way, I’d like to see both of these fights take place. Kampmann impressed me with his win over Thiago. I was convinved he would have lost.
Did you just say Hardy is heavy handed?
REALLY??? One knockout in 5 fights
How many fights until Shields gets GSP?
I wonder if GSP hadn’t been in TUF if Shields would get an instant shot.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
I think he would have
If the UFC signs Shields, and then he loses, then he probably won’t see GSP for a long time, and an opportunity is wasted.
kampmann is a quiet contender at 170.
He doesn’t say much but he’s been really successful and his name has never come up in title talks.
I think Shields beats him and he beats Hardy.

Are you senile?
Never come up in title talks? Remember Swick vs Kampmann?
Guess not.

So....
He almost fought in a number one contender fight and that equals what?
He was almost one fight away from a title shot, that should count for something eh?
Lester you the man.

Why Oct/Nov? Why is that his preference? If I’m cleared, I’d like to every 3-4 max. But November is 5-6 mos away depending on when in Nov. I don’t like Koscheck, but I admire his desire to fight every 3 mos if possible. I’d like to think I’d be the same way. More money, more experience, capitalize on my prime days as well.

As long as you can stay healthy...
I makes perfect sense to fight as often as possible. Keeps your skills sharp and you stay in better shape knowing you always have an upcoming fight. I think it would be harder to only fight twice a year like GSP. I think I’d wake up down the road and wish i’d taken more fights in the golden years of my career.
Hardy equals good tough fight...
If he has to fight shields i think he gets dominated on the ground, and that’s where the fight will end up. Shields wresting and jiu jitsu combination is one of the best in the world. I think that’s the difference between him and GSP, close in wrestling but Shields J.J. is way above GSP.

Shields wouldn't have a prayer in taking GSP down
He has zero striking ability and that makes him predictable. GSP’s wrestling is way better than Shields IMO. I do agree w/ you that Shields BJJ is better.
^+1
GSP all day long on the feet.

Yeah
Problem is I don’t even know if GSP would stand with Shields, he’s got a complex against standing since Serra knocked him out. I’m thinking about his last 4 fights and he’s not finished anybody in there. He didnt even want to stand with Penn, who’s he’s got so many physical and striking advantages over, but he chose to take a smaller guy down and throw and punch here and there but mostly just hold him down. I think shields beats him at his own game. If shields can get Henderson down like he did, then he’ll be able to do the same to George but probably submit him. That’s just my opinion, not that that means shit.

GSP takes the fight to where he can win it
He would take it on the feet against Shields. He’s fought a lot of good strikers recently. Penn, Hardy, Alves- Can’t really blame him for wanting to take those guys to the ground. His standup is excellent and he would make Shields look like Fitch.
I Also Agree Maybe Not KO
but drop him and pounce for the TKO

GSP stood with BJ
it wasnt GSPs fault Penn was gassed and couldnt strike back and gave up the TD.

Agreed, would love to see Hardy vs Kampmaan
and that would make a great co-main event for the upcoming UK show.

Martin is a really cool guy
who has always been down to earth and really open to the fans, at least whenever I have had a question for him. He always responds in a timely and polite manner, but so does Dan, so I would have trouble rooting for either one.
