Jamie Varner: I respect Kamal Shalorus -- but WEC 49 draw was 'bogus'

Quoteworthy:

"I'm pretty sure I broke my right foot, broke my right hand, but I'm not going to lie: I think that was bogus. I definitely feel I won the fight. But you know what? Kamal Shalorus is now the toughest guy you have heard of. I have much respect for this guy."

Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner is unhappy with the decision in his three round war with Kamal Shalorus in the main event of WEC 49 last Sunday night at the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The "Prince of Persia" was docked a point for his ball-busting kicks in a performance that "C-4" feels should have gone his way. Instead, the judges ruled it a draw. Do you agree with the outcome?

I voted draw, but I think it could easily have been Varner.

No way should it have been scored for Shalorus – that judge was smoking crack. Actually I think Cecil got it right this time.

I am the first one

to bitch about the judges when they F up, but I think that they got this one completely right.

I also thought it was a draw

Varner won the first, After the point deduction I thought the second round was 9-9 and Kamal in the third. I was surprised the ref didn’t take a point away or dq after the third nut shot but Varner lobbying the ref to take a point away was stupid. I think he was hoping for the point deduction so he could run away the rest of the fight and take his decision. Finish the fight and this doesn’t happen

i was surprised to hear of the draw this morn

I turned the tv off and went to bed right after the 3rd round ended thinking varner had a decision win..but a draw is def appropriate

it was a draw

but i can’t vote that the judges got it right, because none of them agreed.

How anyone scored the fight 29-28

For Shalorus is crazy that means they didn’t include the deduction or gave a 10-10 round. And honestly there is no way varner lost anymore then one round.

The first round was so close though and after the point deduction in the second and another close round in the third I was actually calling it a Draw before the cards were announced

no one scored it 28-28 tho

the judge that scored it for shalarous scored it 29-27

Well...

If you could find the damn clip somewhere so I can watch the fight, then I’d tell you like how it should have been :)

I don’t want to dl the whole darn thing from a torrent.

Varner has skills

I dont get why he gets so much hate. Its like people r happy he got screwed. He may not be a well liked guy but how can u deny he has skills. If that was Cerrone on the other end of that decision fans would be going FUC**** ape shit. But oh Varner is a dick, he deserves that decision and those shots in the nuts he took. I just dont get it.

Draw was utter and complete BS

Varner won rounds 1 & 2, but the fight should have never even gone to a decision. The ref should have DQ’d Kamal in the 3rd round after the 3rd nutshot. The 2nd nutshot was a 1 point deduction, 3rd nutshot should have been a DQ in Varner’s favor. Kamal can cry all he wants about not being dirty, but 3 hard nutshots is as dirty as it comes. I was wating for him to bite off a piece of Varner’s ear and then say it was accidental. A lot of you may not like Varner, but he got royally screwed last night.

“Kamal Shalorus is now the toughest guy you have heard of.”

That doesn’t even make sense unless he’s saying Shalorus is the toughest fighter we know. He’s trying to play with the line he used earlier but he failed.
