I'm going to be honest, I fell asleep during both events this weekend, thank god for DVR. The beauty of the west coast is I get ppv's at 7 pm, but the UFN and WEC as well as strikeforce I get tape delayed at 9 or 10 pm, and I'm the type that falls asleep during commercials. Not to mention, the card wasn't all that great in my mind as the TUF finale's never really are. I enjoyed the show though, but it left me wondering. How does a guy coming of what, four losses headline against another mediocre fighter make you get excited? By the look of the venue (that venue is tiny too), I wasn't in the minority.
I noticed the commercials before I fell asleep and really enjoyed them a lot. That tapout commercial was really solid! I know I know, it's tapout, and it's a commercial, but I really liked it... a lot. I also loved the TUF promo, and for all the wrong reasons. GSP and his whole underdog speech and how he was not GSP but Georges St. Pierre first and that he's picking underdogs on his tam was great. Funny thing is, this guy is one of the best in the world, the best WW ever and says all the right things (that I agree with), so why don't I like him? I think I'm just convinced that there is no one out there in this world that nice and sincere. I almost feel as if there has to be some deep dark skeleton in his closet, but what? I really can't put my finger on it, and if something doesn't come out soon, and he finishes a fight or two, I may become a fan...but I am very convinced he can't be so "perfect" behind closed doors (please confirm this ANS)!
I was looking forward to watching Jamie Varner get ground and pounded and beat badly, but by the sounds of things, I may not have gotten my wish. I'll watch it in a bit unless you guys say it really wasn't worth it. That Crispi guy impressed me with that guillotine, but the funniest thing was what happened during the post fight interview. I was watching the midnight replay in bed, my wife was asleep, but woke up while he was talking and asked "are you watching gay porn kev, it sounds like a fag is on the TV." She rolled over and fell back to sleep and I couldn't stop laughing. Overall I wasn't disappointed in TUF or the majority of what I saw from WEC, but the 4 fight SF card was better IMO, SF just needs to utilize their whole time slot a bit better.
