Former welterweight number one contender Jon Fitch would rather sacrifice his title aspirations than have to fight friend and American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) team mate Josh Koscheck. Of course a lot would have to happen for that type of scenario to ever play out. In addition to "Kos" defeating fellow TUF 12 Coach and division champion Georges St. Pierre, Fitch would have to overcome the Brazilian "Pitbull" Thiago Alves later this summer. Can the stars align and ultimately boot the wrestling standout to a higher weight classn? Or will Team AKA close out the year 0-2?

Fitch used to fight at 205. 185 shouldn’t be a problem for him. It would be interesting to see him competing against some of the 185 pound guys. But he doesn’t have power in his punches.

Chael actually looks to posture and throw elbows. He doesn’t produce a lot of finishes that way, but he actually beats up his opponent. They leave feeling like they lost a fight in a cage, whereas Unanimous Fitch’s opponents leave feeling like they lost a fight in a prison shower.

Fitch was the only recent opponent that got smashed up by GSP. Sherk took quite the beating back in the day but he is a 155 lb midget.
Hardy looked fine after fighting GSP.

He did beat BJ down a bit, but BJ’s face never shows it.

Fitch will lose to Alvez. I still don’t get how so many people forget how good Alvez is. I like Fitch, but he will be overpowered and outclassed. After the fight, fans will once again be on the Alvez wagon.

Fitch won’t be dealing with GSP type speed in this fight. He’ll be at a slight disadvantage on the feet but a fairly sizable advantage in the wrestling and ground department.

GSP is a far superior wrestler than Fitch. Alvez stood up several times with GSP on top which no one else has done. Fitch will not be able to keep Alvez down. IMO he won’t even be able to take him down. He doesn’t have the speed and power of GSP’s shot. Don’t get me wrong, Fitch is a great wrestler, but Alvez is one strong MF. Oh, and “a slight disadvantage on the feet”? C’mon man, Fitch would (will) get killed standing with the pitbull.

Fitch is a big, strong welterweight just like Alves.
The standup that he used (albeit limited) looked better against Saunders. He looked lighter on his feet and was moving well. Alves will have to fear the takedown just as he did against GSP so that could help neutralize the striking further. In my opinion, Fitch is smarter, tougher and more well rounded. I know his fights aren’t exactly edge of your seat type stuff but he gets the wins and is as tough as they come.

Smart not to underestimate Fitch. And I agree his stand-up has improved, but only with the intention of setting-up the takedown. I just think that when you have the power Alvez does, the wrestling becomes less of a threat. If/when Thiago nullifies the wrestling, Fitch will be in deep trouble. I'm a fan of Alves too big guy.
He has pretty good takedown defense and if the fight stays standing he can pick apart Fitch and win a decision. I just don’t feel that will happen. Jon Couture, I mean Fitch, will stall, grind on him, ankle stomps, knees to the thigh, yada yada yada and eventually get the fight to the ground.

I watch the market all day although I don’t invest to much directly in commodities. Panic and fear tend to be correlated with the price of gold. The gold move can and probably will end in tears. Don’t mess with volatile, over crowded trades like gold currently is. That shit is to hard although gold investors have made some serious money recently.
Large caps and option selling
while taking advantage of the amazing and frequent gifts that you get during panic and fear is how you make money consistently in the market. Sometimes the best move is no move. Don’t be afraid to be really aggressive when others are running scared. That is usually the best time to buy but admittedly very difficult to do. The S&P is off 4-5% since January and I’m up a little over 5%. That ain’t luck stud, it’s years of getting my ass kicked and learning how the game is played.
HFT's have me worried. The flash crash makes me scared of what can happen on daytrading.
I have a few “little trades” that I have set up on E-trade in health care, but am mostly in large caps and MLP’s. Cash in hand every quarter. Good Balance sheets. Low debt/refinancing worries.

They can be used as great income generators and risk reducers. Also, a way to leverage capital on occassions when you have very strong conviction in a stock.

Inflation is almost nonexistent meaning low rates will be here for a while, earnings are decent and most importantly valuations are reasonable. Don’t get me wrong though there are plenty of headwinds and a slow, difficult recovery is most likely in the cards. That is EXACTLY why you need to learn what a covered call is. In a sideways market you won’t make money but if you’re selling options you will do very well. I love a direction less market, the average investor who has there money in a 401k or IRA and managed by somebody else prohibited from options trading does not like it.
How can I learn more? Even if I disagree with you on the double dip, I love information. (and I would love to be wrong)

I pretty much use three sites
CNBC, yahoo and tdameritrade (also where I trade). I read as many articles as possible, usually just skimming important parts. Watch price action in stocks, areas of resistance and support. Probably the most important thing is that a stock’s reaction to news is more important than the news itself. Just because the news may be bad/good that doesn’t mean that the market (or specific equity) is going to decline/rise. Learning what is/isn’t priced in is the key. For goodness sakes don’t phucking watch shows like Cramer and Fast Money. They change there mind more often than I change my babies diapers.
Your right about a difficult recovery BUT
that is not the important thing Ulf. Stocks are priced for this. Check out some of the earnings multiples of the large cap stocks and of the S&P itself versus historical multiple ranges. It won’t take a lot of good news to continue to slowly push the market higher. You will not see sub-1000 again in my opinion. There is very strong support at 1040-1050, a fabulous area to buy but an area I’m not so sure we’ll see any time soon.

You can’t buy anything with gold. It is a commodity that you have to liquidate in order to obtain money. I have never followed it closely which is unfortunate with it’s recent performance. All I’m saying is be careful when you hear so much chatter about the direction (almost all the same way) on any investment. I remember when the dollar was in a nosedive last year and everybody and their mother wanted to short or claimed to be short it. If you would have bought it you would have done very well. Stay away from the noise. Good luck on the gold investment, now I have a reason to pay a little more attention to it.
One other thing though. When I am confident on an investment, I put a lot more than 5% in it. But that’s just me, strike less but strike big and aggressive.
I got kids. Now that I actually have money, I cannot be aggressive.
If you believe that gold is a commodity, that is your choice. I will not argue it with you, but here are a few tidbits/questions about your commodity…
1. Gold is/was accepted currency for the last 6,000 years. There are many countries in hte world that will accept gold as form of payment, today.
2. The answer to my question above is that inflated properly, gold would be at roughly $2,200 an ounce.
3. I have two clients whose families escaped Germany prior to WWII with gold coins, only.
4. FDR confiscated all know physical gold holdings in the 1930’s. Why?
5. In 1962 an American Silver Quarter bought a gallon of gasoline. Today, that same quarter melted down into raw silver and traded for paper money will get you $3, or a gallon of gasoline. Why?

Post secondary education is subsidized by the government at both the provincial and federal levels though DS. I pay about $6200/year for grad school tuition, while the government kicks in roughly an equal amount towards tuition. The same goes for undergrad tuition here. On top of that I get funding from agencies that in turn get funding from the government. Depending on the person and their academic history and field of study this can be in the amount of $15000-$35000/year or so. I make money while going to grad school, but trust me it’s just enough to survive.

Not to mention he has to get by Alves first anyway, sounds liek he's already looking past Alves?
It sucks Alves has had problems and not fought in sometime, otherwise I would be pretty confident that we might see GSP and Alves 2. Fitch is tough and is able to control pretty much any opponet besides GSP to this point with his grappling. He’s not a fan fauvorite because his primary weapon is grappling but none the less he jsut wins and thats all that really counts. Alves has to be carefull with his leg kicks because those kicks will make it easier for Fitch to get him to the ground were Alves has problems.

cause when you wake up staring at the lights, after Alves knocks you out. Everyone will know…Alves is the true # 1 contender. You beat Alves when he was the pupbull, but I hardly doubt you’ll get by this version of the Pitbull. Alves by KO before round 2 finishes.
