UFC 115 weigh in results LIVE from Vancouver for 'Liddell vs Franklin'

1079_medium

The official weigh-in event for UFC 115: "Liddell vs. Franklin" went down today (June 11) from the General Motors Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

It was a rather pedestrian affair as all fighters set to compete on tomorrow night's card hit their respective marks without incident. A few shorts were shed but other than a couple of close calls, not much to report from Vancouver.

UFC 115 will be headlined by a match-up between former UFC champions Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell and Rich "Ace" Franklin, as well as feature a co-main event between elite heavyweight kickboxers Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic and Pat "Get Hype" Barry.

I'm curious to see how shredded Chuck looks

I saw another pic of him yesterday on Twitter, and he is in the best shape I’ve ever seen him in.

You know some of them are recent though since he has Court Mcgee/Howard Davis in his pictures, Davis was only training him since before Shogun and Mcgee likely only since TUF finished

Don’t think I will be buying this card either. Only fight worth money is the kampman v. thiago.

When he is focused and in shape he is a more explosive athlete and more talented fighter than Franklin. I saw some recent pics of Chuck and he looks crazy good. I think his change in lifestyle will bring out the the Chuck of old and this one won’t even be close.

Just looked at Cro Cop's recent (overall) record

He’s 4-1-1, with a loss against Dos Santos (no shame in that) and NC vs. Overeem. My mind has been playing tricks on me. I thought it was a lot worse than that.

and is more memorable then say him beating Perosh and Eddie Sanchez

by AintNoSunshine on Jun 11, 2010 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s fought some of the worst calibre fighters though Barry would beat everyone he’s fought lately with the exception of Dos Santos/Overeem.

by tremblay6 on Jun 11, 2010 8:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Hopefully Barry ends it early he may gas, alot of weight gained compared to his other fights where he weighed under 240 to be weighing 248 this time

by tremblay6 on Jun 11, 2010 8:01 PM EDT reply actions

future matches

I think the winner of Ben Rothwell/Gilbert Yvel will face the winner of Cro Cop/Pat fight. The loser of rothwell/yvel will probably get kicked to the curb.

If Franklin wins he will get someone like Jon Jones next. If Chuck wins I don’t know maybe Tito but I do not see what that does for him as far as a title run.

Cro Cop has to win. Sure he has some W’s lately but they are against cans and were not to impressive of wins. He held his own with Dos Santos for awhile though. If he wins you can say he beat a pretty good fighter and his next fight could be the Rothwell/Yvel winner. After that if he won again he’d get a #1 contender match because of his name.

I have never seen Chuck in that kind of shape, if I have it’s been YEARS; I know they been talkin about it all damn month but damn he is fuckin ripped.

question

he’s ripped, i’ll give him that, but does that make his chin anymore suspect? Does that help his reaction time? I’m picking Chuck to win, but I don’t think he being ripped has much to do with it, do you?

by kevjack115 on Jun 11, 2010 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes

There’s a big difference between abusing your body and the effects of that and training correctly and reaping the rewards!! The major factor is whether it’s too little too late?!

I for one am so happy he has dedicated himself, because it gas been noticeable in his gut and footwork that he wasn’t before.

by the real mo on Jun 11, 2010 8:42 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

A flat stomache vs the usual beer gut is a statement in and of itself

Even when Chuck is in shape he usually has a little beer belly, but not the case here.. Everytime they’ve said “Chuck has turned it around, Chuck is changing his life style blah blah..” I’ve written it off as usual hype talk. But seeing the results and seeing that it’s really true has definatley made me optimistic. The only KO Chuck has received that I think indicates he may have a suspect chin is the KO from Shogun. The left hook didn’t look very powerful to me. But the Rashad KO and the Rampage KO I think anyone would’ve been lights out.

Anyway, yes I do think it has a lot to do with it; it means he really was in shape during camp, and that indicates to me he was able to spend more time on a gameplan and on his technique vs spending that time soley on making weight and having cardio.

You're not the only ones confused

Apparently Chuck’s going to win because he want on a diet because his new girlfriend told him to so he’s now in better shape than usual. I don’t get it at all, I’ve still not heard anything about Chuck’s skill improving in fact it doesn’t sound like his training has changed that much at all. It takes more than bothering to get in shape and having a pretty girlfriend to win fights.

"Kimbo Slice sucks like I've been saying for the last few months, this fucking guy can't fight and he got knocked out in 13 seconds" (Dana White)
"The one thing we know about Kimbo Slice, this guy is a fighter, this guy will come to fight" (Dana White)

by David W-S on Jun 11, 2010 9:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually if he's in shape it means

He can spend less time on making weight and training cardio and more time on game planning and technique. If I translate Dana/Chuck’s comments correctly he was basically taking his current skill base and using a training camp for the sole purpose of getting in shape and having cardio to compete in his last few fights. IMO those are two very different things; if you can’t see that, then your logic confuses the hell out of me.

paulo thiago deserves a shot if he wins

Dude only has one loss and it was a close one to Jon Fitch. If Fitch beats Alves will he get another title shot? Who will Paulo Thiago get next if he wins tomorrow? Perhaps the Alves/Fitch loser? Hardy?

Personally I’d like to see GSP vs Nick Diaz but that will never happen.

by hatteras on Jun 11, 2010 8:11 PM EDT reply actions

Paulo Thiago will have to take another fight if he wins, With GSP and Koscheck doing TUF it’ll still be 2011 before he could get a title shot, He could fight Alves win or lose against Fitch, Maybe Shields if/when he signs or Hardy I don’t see the UFC making a rematch with him and Fitch

by tremblay6 on Jun 11, 2010 8:13 PM EDT reply actions

I also think CC will win this fight

5’11 is not a good stat to have against Cro Cop; CC is back peddaling and getting bullied by bigger fighters, generally with more height and reach; granted Barry weighs more but he’s giving up reach and height and possibly more respect for an opponent than is healthy; that’s a bad combination imo. If Cro Cop can maintain forward motion and walk Barry down I don’t see why he shouldn’t win.

Chuck...

Looks in great shape!!! Even if he has lost a little chin, being in this type of shape and staying off the booze ect. HAS to help your ability to take a shot! Chuck was always my favorite fighter to watch and I sure hope he can pull of a victory. I still have my doubts and I don’t want to jump in and say he will win just because he is in shape, if anything, I am hoping that if he loses, he loses on a high note in a 3 round WAR!
