TUF 11: Jamie Yager vs Rich Attonito set for live finale on June 19
Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 lighting rod Jamie Yager isn't going away just yet.
The funky-haired fight monger is getting another chance at UFC fame as he tries to sneak in the back door against fellow TUF guy Rich Attonito during the live finale on Saturday, June 19 at 9 p.m. ET on Spike TV from "The Pearl" at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV.
Yager made some noise early in the season, kicking the "Hebrew Hammer" out of the competition (literally) to earn his spot in the TUF house. He followed that up with another impressive stoppage against Charles Blanchard in episode four, stopping the KOTC vet in just over a minute.
Unfortunately he was unable to capitalize on that momentum and failed to answer the bell in the third round of his episode ten fight against eventual semifinalist Josh Bryant.
The loss did little to stop his off-camera shenanigans, and now Team Liddell standout Rich Attonito is looking to make him pay for it.
Like Yager, Attonito was successful right out of the gate, outpointing Lyle Steffens to secure his spot on the roster. He would face Kyacey Uscola in the elimination rounds and win via disqualification (illegal knee), but was forced to withdraw from the competition after breaking his hand.
Now he's healed and ready to give it a second go round against one of this season's more recognizable names.
Also on tap for the TUF 11 Finale is a light heavyweight war featuring Keith "The Dean of Mean" Jardine as he inches his way back into the title hunt against Matt "The Hammer" Hamill.
Remember that MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action on fight night (Saturday, June 19), which is slated to air at 9 p.m. ET on Spike TV from the Palms Casino Resort. The latest quick updates of the live action will begin to flow earlier than that around 7 p.m. ET with the prelim bouts. It’s going to be a fun night of fights so don’t miss it. And remember to check us out for all the pre, during and post-fight TUF 11 Finale coverage you can handle.

Uscola got bit in the dick by some pitbulls
I’m guessing that’s why he didn’t get a fight on the finale (not being able to train).

I have mixed feelings about Yager
He is the only guy this season I can name, and when doing serious interviews, he seems like an alright guy, but all the acting stupid for air time is lame to me. Id want to get recognized on my talent, not my level of douchiness!
I'm with ya Kev
Up until last night I would have defended the kid. He was getting a bad rap for his childishness. But I really thought once caught, he’d own up to his shit. But when he threw that flour out and then said it wasn’t him…pussy. Just own up and move on. Plus the not going out side thing, I know you don’t want to get kicked off the show so just shut up and sit down and don’t say you’ll do something knowing you wont. again..pussy. Plus he totally did quit. “I got shook.” Pussy, you quit. quit quit quit.

he said he got rocked
but what fighter hasnt? He got rocked and survived the round, I had no respect for him after he quit like that. It’s weird, you can tell he’s a good kid and just playing it up for TV time, but thats just not my thing. Id rather be a really good fighter and get on camera for that over being a quitter and a punk and coming off like a douche

I dont remember that
but it’s true, if you’re not getting rocked occasionally in practice/sparring, then you probably aren’t training good.

i liked him th ewhole season to, because he actually seemes
like a real, down to earth, respectful guy who knew he had to play to the cameras. couldnt believe when he didnt get up for the 3rd.
all the talent in the world, no heart!

agreed
you can see he’s a nice guy in the interviews, he’s absolutely playing to the cameras in the house
You know...I never thought he was that skilled
He’s very athletic which allows him to do some really flashy moves. His physique is perfect for his style…his moves seem to be very fluid. But its one thing to be able to do some video game moves and another to actually be able to do them against some real competition. Agreed…no heart. But i never though he had talent. I did, on the other hand, defend his actions for the same reason, i thought he was playing shit up for the camera.

Why does everyone say he’s “really talented” or has “all the talent in the world”? He’s talented, but he didn’t show that he was any better than most of the guys in the house.

Was far and away superbly better then the guys in the house, he is in great shape, colorful personality…

I don’t think he did enough to prove that. Especially not superbly better.
"THIS IS THE GREATEST UPSET IN THE HISTORY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS!"

I never said he didn’t have better stand-up as an isolated skill, I said he didn’t do anything to prove he was “surperbly” better or far and away better. And I reckon Tavares, in a stand-up battle, would beat him.
But that was my point, he was not far and away better than anyone.
The only reason he stood out was because of his toilet brush hairdo and his bitching.
"THIS IS THE GREATEST UPSET IN THE HISTORY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS!"

"superbly"
Going back to my original question:
Why does everyone say he’s "really talented" or has "all the talent in the world"? He’s talented, but he didn’t show that he was any better than most of the guys in the house.
That’s what I mean. Of course he’s talented, but not enough to justify getting all the praise he gets for his skills when he wasn’t a stand-out, not in terms of what he did in his fights. The guy he displayed his apparently superb striking against was the little guy who belongs in a different weight class.
I’m not he’s not good though, all I mean is that it’s a little premature to say he’s far and away better.
"THIS IS THE GREATEST UPSET IN THE HISTORY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS!"
Gus Johnson will never live that down and it should never be forgotten.
Yager has no heart, none. He will give up every time he gets hurt in the cage.
If you give up on the show in that situation, you will always give up. He sucks at fighting and sucks at life.
I'm always right, even when I'm wrong.
Acting like a doosh will get you on the live finale
What a bunch of crap – he quit on the stool. I think he should have been one of the TUF contestants that did not even get invited to the Finale
worby can now sleep as he will be able to see Yager fight one more time.

lol i dont even like the kid
Just think he has a lotta potential. That after seeing him quit is now looking like he’ll waste. I wanted someone to clock him real bad last night when he was posturing how tough he is after hiding all their shoes and being a moron. He didn’t even go outside and pose as tough.
I just think he’s got the potential to be a great villian and the only one besides maybe the gay canadian that makes me laugh, and court that could be around in a years time.

ANS I got a question
since you were forthright about cheating yesterday. What is Greg’s stance on cheating? I f you guys have someone that it’s pretty known he cuts corners, does Greg say anything or just turn a blind eye?
Thats Hard For Me To Say Without Saying Too Much About Certain People
but to be quite honest you should know the answer by just watching Phil Nurse being in Gregs corner and Greg knowing what was happening with the grease situation.
by AintNoSunshine on Jun 10, 2010 1:31 PM EDT up reply actions
good answer
and that exactly what I thought. Just seems there is no honor anymore…except in golf where a guy recently called a penalty on himself and it cost him the tournament.
I Dont Think Greg Condones Such behavior
or even promotes it, but in my opinion if you see it and dont do anything about it that makes you just as guilty.
by AintNoSunshine on Jun 10, 2010 1:34 PM EDT up reply actions
If Greg didnt turn a blind eye, theres a chance he could lose a top few guys, and future guys, who would rather train at a camp where getting the edge doesnt get called on
lol

I think thats a wrong way to look at it buddy
If thats the case, you would probably have 100% of fighters/camps guilty. I’m sure everyone at Greg’s knows who cheats, but if you guys turn a blind eye, then as you said, you’re all guilty.
feel bad for him
all that talent and potential he has and then he lacks heart and heart isnt something you can train.he really was my favorite until his last fight that he gave up. his standup was crazy and awesome

because his talent means nothing if you dont got heart. and i think heart is a boundrie (or how ever you spell that ) that for some people is very far so they can push themselves more and for some people (like yager) that boundrie is very close

As someone above mentioned
he’s marketable. He’s on that borderline right now where either he can make something of himself with all the exposure he claimed for himself on the show…or he can fade into obscurity relaying on gimmicks and shit talk. At some point, you have to cross over and decide you’re willing to put in the time and work…sweat and blood…to become a true athlete and not just athletic.

In His Defense His Combos and Strikes Are From Video Games
I feel like Im playing as his character and button mashing. His striking is appealing and can be intimadating. He just needs to refine it from being so sloppy and learning to be well rounded
by AintNoSunshine on Jun 10, 2010 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions
EXACTLY
that’s what I’ve been saying all along. Reminds me of a couple characters off of Tekken. His physique and striking ability reminds me of Jon Jones. I can’t say anything about his training but he doesn’t seem to have the same discipline as Bones, though.

JAMIE YAGER
Fighting out of: Los Angeles, CA / Kings MMA
Record: 2-1
Age: 25
A standout varsity letterman in baseball and football, Yager was the 2001 Athlete of the Year at South Pasadena High School in California. He picked up training MMA as a hobby, and went straight from training to the professional ranks in February 2008 as part of BET’s Iron Ring, where he defeated his opponent by TKO

But I would think Yager should enlist help from a predominant gym and we can see if his potential will take off

Its hard to meet potential with only a desire to be seen
I think you need the desire to be a fighter. the heart for it. I think that’s what he’s lacking. I respect the getting into the cage part…but if you’re only doing it because you think its “easy” or “just something that’ll get you noticed”…you’re not getting too far.

People like you ANS
People who choose this as their career/profession, they’re a special breed. It takes a lot more than just wanting a paycheck. it takes more than wanting “free drinks from strangers at the bar”. Know what I mean? (lol I’m sure you do). I consider it along the lines of wanting to be a dr. Its not just about the money, which is nice, its about being ready to study/learn for 11 yrs before ever really BEING a dr. MMA takes that type of dedication. Wearing the gloves and being in the octagon don’t make you a fighter…it takes years of dedication. Years of studying/learning.

Thats True
And theres also the combat aspect that weeds people out, there are alot of tough guys and bullies out there and think they can “scrap” and that beating people up for looking at their girlfriend translates into this sport. But as I found out very fast there is a difference between throwing blows in a parking lot and coming in to the gym and being leg kicked, head kicked, liver punched, arm barred, etc.

Attonito pissed me off when he faked getting kneed in the head by Kacey !
Soon as uscola had him in bad shape & he wanted out of the fight! Then after the knee missed & the ref stopped it he was like where am I ? Gtfo. Him & yager both quit IMO.

....a spot un-earned...
I can’t believe Dana gave that Yager guy a fight after QUITTING… why not give it to someone who at least had enough heart to fight to the last bell?
Personally, I think any fighter who quits on his stool should be kicked off the show.
i thought the fight between court m. and the hawaii guy (brain freeze on his name)
was the best fight we have seen since tuf 9 season. tuf 10 imo really had no good fights and there have been a few good one’s on tuf 11 season. this was by far the best.

I'm disappointed
that Kacey or Hamortree dont get the chance to beat this fool. That said I think Rich will beat this asswipe with ease.
Wait...
What happened to “So you wanna be a fighter?”???
I guess quitting on the stool makes Dana happy these days.
"Why am I here? Why does my mind have wings? Why do blue midgets hit me with fish?!" - The Tick
Seth Baczynski vs Brad Tavares??
Aren’t these two friends? I just heard these two are having a rematch in the finale. Shows how much each of these guys want it. Unlike one Yager who gave up on the stool. Anyone who is ready to quit shouldn’t be given a second chance. Oh well…is what it is. One thing I love about these Ultimate Finales is getting the chance to see if these fighters have developed since the show was taped.
It would be because prior to Seth kicking Brad street-style in the face, it was a really entertaining fight. It seemed really evenly matched. But that’s the thing, since the house, one guy might improve so much that the fight will be one-sided. I would have to go with Tavares in that rematch.
"THIS IS THE GREATEST UPSET IN THE HISTORY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS!"
Gus Johnson will never live that down and it should never be forgotten.
I realize that it was an entertaining match. Was just making the point that both Brad and Seth are examples of fighters from the reality show who should get the second chance. Unlike someone like Yager (in my opinion).
I actually wouldn’t mind seeing Clayton McKinney getting another shot as well. Especially considering the fact that he fought his last match with the shoulder injury. Not to mention he can strike decent along with good submission skills. Not sure who I would put in there with him…maybe Josh Bryant.
There was a laundry list of guys that wanted to fight Jager...
and I don’t remember Rich being one of them. Too bad. He won’t be forced to back up running his mouth. and the fact that they put it on the main card??
