UFC on Versus 2: Mark Munoz vs Yushin Okami set for August 1 in Salt Lake City
A competitive middleweight bout in the form of Mark Munoz vs. Yushin Okami has been agreed upon for UFC on Versus 2. MMA Weekly reported the fight which will take place on August 1 from Salt Lake City, Utah earlier today.
Munoz has been perfect (3-0) since his 185-pound debut against Nick Catone at UFC 102: "Couture vs. Nogueira" in August 2009. It wasn't a convincing win, however, earning a split decision nod from two of the three judges sitting ringside.
He didn't make the same mistake his next time out, smashing Ryan Jensen via verbal submission (punches) at UFC 108: "Evans vs. Silva" earlier this year. Now 8-1, Mark most recently defeated Kendall Grove in what was a thrilling come-from-behind win at UFC 112: "Invincible."
Okami (24-5) got back in the win column at UFC Fight Night: "Florian vs. Gomi" as he defeated Lucio Linhares with a second round technical knockout (doctor's stoppage). Yushin had suffered only the second loss in his last eleven fights his last time out against now number one middleweight contender Chael Sonnen at UFC 104: "Machida vs. Shogun."
The well-rounded Japanese fighter has come close to a couple title shots over the years only to have them taken away from him by either a loss or a less-than exciting performance. A win over Munoz could very well put him back on track toward that goal.

WAR MUNOZ
I was thinking about what’s next for Yushin. I just slightly prefer to see Munoz win this fight.
Aoki 0-18 take down attempts. Never thought I'd see that happen.
This is a huge step up.
I like Munoz, but I think he may have bitten off a little more than he can chew in Okami. Especially if Thunder has worked to tighten up his wrestling. I’ll take Yushin FTW, but an interested to see how Mark performs.

Not only his wrestlign but let's hope his standup
Okami use to have underrated standup but he’s really stepped up his boxing and we saw what he did to Linhares. We also saw what happened with Munoz against the Spyda who unlike Okami isn’t as technical or carry as much power. Munoz faces another brutal bashing.

But If Munoz can implement the same game plan as Chael...
It could be another long night for Okami… I mos def think Okami is the better all around fighter, but Okami has had maybe 6 months to really work on his wrestling defense. I don’t think that is enough to stifle a Munoz wrestling attack. Either way I am a big Okami fan and would like to see him get back in to contendership…

now we will see if okami has revamped his training like he said he was going to after his loss to sonnen
I hope okami dominates munoz
it’ll be definitely interesting to see. I’m pulling for Okami because he basically always gets screwed and is the only really succesful Japanese fighter in the U.S. (and he cuts weight, what a surprise!). It will also be a good barometer of Munoz’s wrestling if he can take Okami down like Sonnen did.
He already did, you saw him against Lucio Linhares.
That was a complete tooling.

So next time FEDOR is kicking your ass, don't be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.
Really? Are You An Okami Fan?
I am a huge Munoz fan.

I like both guys but feel as though Okami has been forgotten...he lost to Sonnen but before that was overlooked due to his dry personality, lack of English, and unmarketabliity...he's a great fighter though

Even though it was illegal
That kick had a lot of power behind it even when it was thrown a short distance…great accuracy too. Reminds me of when Moussasi KOed Jacare with the upkick.
"To me, MMA is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography and the dancers hit each other."
I was actually thinking the same thing.
The fact that it was illegal probably made it much more effective (in terms of inflicting damage) because Okami wasn’t expecting it, but nevertheless it was very impressive.

Anyone think potential for FOTN here?

Great Fight!!
yushin has been passed up so many time befor i’d like to see him get the win.
Munoz has been impressive since his head kick,
Munoz via Split Decision
I'm not afraid of dying, I'm a little bit scared of what comes after
He had a hard time at first against Grove
He wont be able to come from behind like that against Okami.

good point
hopeful he realizes this before hand

I've got Yushin
Phenomenal wrestling and great standup. No GnP for Munoz here.
Anderson Silva will fall via brutal Republican dry-humping.

are you implying that he's lost a lot?

Okami by dominance
Even though Munoz has awesome wrestling, I think Okami’s clinch game and his vastly improved stand up may give him the nod. I don’t think this is going to a decision, Munoz’s GnP is too devastating and Okami’s potential is starting to ooze out of his natural strengths. I am going against my nationality here but Okami has got it, great match up..
Good fight
Hopefully Mark is ready for this test. He’s getting better all of the time and has great wrestling but so does Okami and his string needs a lot if work. I’m hoping for a Munoz win but I’m not convinced by his chin. This fight better be televised as it should be a good one.

true but..
he took some great shots right on the button and still was able to come back, hes tough..

Munoz should win
He has two of the most proven skills in MMA: Takedowns and GNP. His takedowns (at 185) at seriously as good as anyone in the divison. Coming from behind and TKOing Kendell Grove with his GNP should worry Okami.
Okami is a badass, but I don’t think he will be able to stop his takedowns. Once he is on his back Munoz has a great chance to land some hard shots which SHOULD turn the tide in the fight.
But its a fight and ANYTHING could happen. That is why this is the best sport out there!
Okami takes it
as long as he stuffs the takedowns and uses his boxing nicely! Okami’s stand-up looked improved against Linhales!
