UFC 114: Jason Brilz vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira booked for May 29 with Forrest Griffin hurt
Jason Brilz today was awarded the opportunity to make an immediate impact in the light heavyweight division as the decorated amateur wrestler willstep up on short notice to fight Pride FC import Antonio Rogerio Nogueria in the at UFC 114: "Rampage vs. Evans" on May 29 in Las Vegas.
Nogueira's oriiginal opponent, Forrest Griffin, was forced to withdraw from the event due to a shoulder injur. As "Lil' Nog" tells Tatame.com, there isn't much he can do about the last-minute switch except refine his strategy:
"What can I do? I want to fight him standing up and then fall onto the ground and try to finish him. It switched from a striker to a wrestler but I'll still be searching for the knockout"
The twin brother of UFC heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira punched a one-way ticket on the train to title contention with a first round destruction of Luis Arthur Cane at UFC 106: "Ortiz vs. Griffin 2" in November 2009.
The victory over "Banha" was the sixth straight for the former Brazilian boxer, who also convincingly finished five of those six contests.
Brilz will certainly have his work cut out for him.
The Nebraska-based fighter has compiled an impressive 18-2-1 record and has notable wins over veterans such as Jason MacDonald, Alex Schoenauer and Tim Boetsch, among others.
His last appearance inside the Octagon was as recent as UFC on Versus 1, where he took home a unanimous decision win against Eric Schafer in Broomfield.
UFC 114 will run in conjunction with this year's Fan Expo at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center and feature a 205-pound grudge match between former light heavyweight champions and Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 coaches "Sugar" Rashad Evans and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

Probably.
But I am not the happiest camper for this fight but hey at least they will get more footage of Lil Nog putting people down.

Yeah but...
It is useless, if he wins (and he should) so what!?!? It isn’t going to help his rankings, if he loses then WOW will his stock plummet. This fight gives him nothing to gain and a lot to loose…

It Gives Him Another Victory.
Winning Streaks Can Go A Long Way as Well As Staying Active… This does both of those
by AintNoSunshine on May 4, 2010 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree with that
Still a small gain in the face of maybe getting beat by someone who is unknown to most because anything can happen inside that cage…

I knew that Forrest wasnt going to fight Nog!
Am i happy that my boy is fighting bRILZ? no!
but I didnt want Nog pulled from this card, and most lhw are booked to fight, and you dont fight a monster like nog on 3 fights notice…so I am happy that Brilz stepped up and took this fight!
winning streaks do go a long way, and sadly casula fans dont know lil Nog yet, so its important for him to stay active! I dont care who he fights, always happy to see eiethr Nog in action….so much for my huge pay day! I was gonna bet the house against Forrest…but odds on Nog will be so high that this fight will be virtually, unbettable unless you dare bet against Nog!
HAHAHAHAHAHA
This is a rediculous matchup. Deserves undercard status to say the least.
Might as well put me in there with Lil Nog
Bet I could at least out run him a little longer than this guy.
this fight sucks but the card is still decent imo....Vancouver's card sucks

So next time FEDOR is kicking your ass, don't be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.
Can anyone tell me why they didn't put Thiago Silva in there?
Would’ve been a great fight
Not too sure
I’ve heard he’s still injured though. That’s all I’ve got sadly.
If Thiago's hurt then how bout anyone but this guy???
Couture would’ve been a sick matchup…maybe Vera, or even better… how bout Jon Bones Jones?
Or here's an idea
Stick Tito in there to teach him a lesson for beating up Jena…then once he’s done getting his ass kicked you cut him from the UFC altogether?
Teach Him a Lesson?
What kind exactly?
by AintNoSunshine on May 4, 2010 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions
What...you don't think Lil Nog will destroy Tito?
You kidding me?
No I am saying what sort of lesson would be taught?
by AintNoSunshine on May 4, 2010 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions
What it feels like to get beat up like a little bitch
or a dirty whore for that matter…Jena is more of a dirty whore than a bitch
Yeah Umm.. You Know
Tito didnt beat Jenna up right? Thats sorta idiotic to make a comment like that seeing how Tito has been beaten up badly before as well as beating people up pretty badly as well.
by AintNoSunshine on May 4, 2010 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions
I just think its dumb
to say Tito deserves anything pertaining towards something that you know nothing of. If Tito had a record of beating women thats one thing but fact is nothing has come out in favts anyways that tito actually harmed her. Now if you wanna say Tito is a crybaby and an excuse maker and should be shut up now that would be different.
by AintNoSunshine on May 4, 2010 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions
Nothing would have been too bad anyway...
Tito is not that good of a striker to hurt Jenna and I doubt he’d try for a take down… Jenna is pretty good off her back as we’ve all seen.
See Now thats Funny
Or I read something like Tito would have lost a decision to Jenna had the cops not stopped the fight.

Couture vs Toney
Vera will be out til end of the year with a fractured face.
Bones has a fight vs The Janitor.
Thiago has a fight vs Boetch.
Hamill vs Jardine.
by AintNoSunshine on May 4, 2010 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions
And you don't think that those are all bad matchups?
Only decent one out of that is Hamill vs Hardine. All others will be very one sided

I don't know
Remember how Heath was supposed to beat Boetsch?
And how Chuck was supposed to whoop Jardine?
Like AintNoSunshine said, it’s MMA. Anything can happen.
I think
Vlad has a good chance to put together a good gameplan vs Jones.
I think Boetsch could be overlooked by Thiago.
And I think Couture could be knocked out by Toney.
by AintNoSunshine on May 4, 2010 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions
I wouldn't bet the house against Brilz either...
I think the people moaning about these top guys vs cans match-ups for these cards need to do a little more research, Boetsch and Brilz are very handy fighters – Vlad too. Toney will destroy Couture if he tries any of his old Army “boxing” crap on him, it’s a different Universe to the level Toney was fighting at not so long ago – Randy needs to crawl into the ring and stay at that level if he wants to win that one, the longer it’s on the feet the shorter a night it will be before Randy’s taking a nap. Ray Mercer showed that Pro boxers shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Couture could be knocked out by Toney?!?!

Good point but
I’ll be putting my money on Couture, Bones, Thiago, and Hammill
I would agree
except im picking jardine of course.

Thiago is scheduled to fight Tim Boecsh...bones is scheduled to fight the janitor
Vera’s a good idea for lil nog though…but I think he broke is orbital and will be out for another couple months at least

He is Already Scheduled.
Plus who wants to fight Lil Nog on short notice willingly?

Jason Brilz.
Someone who thinks they can make a quick impression. Good luck with that.

Much more worthy of a co main event
Brilz jaw is gona be somewhere in the 4th row after this fight.
I can see it now
‘there goes his jaw mike’
‘Jasons hurt joe’

Dont Count Out The Underdog
Im not sauing I would pick Brilz but there is no such thing really as a Gimme Fight.
by AintNoSunshine on May 4, 2010 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Yh but even so...
…this is as close to a gimme fight you’re ever gona see. Although after penn vs edgar a saying springs to mind..something about counting eggs before that have hatched

sometimes the worst matchups are the best......
sokodju springs to mind, but obviously brilz is an extreme underdog, but people sometimes deserve an opportunity
Haha i was waiting for someone to say Soku. I dont remember the exact number but the betting odds were crazy

new co main event
should be bisping vs miller……people know more about these two fighters….this is a gift for nog and should end it in the 1st rd by ko
by Roman Litvinskiy on May 4, 2010 4:19 PM EDT reply actions
Not the best, but better than nothing
Considering who’s out there right now. Everybody’s either booked (Rashad/Rampage/etc) or injured (Bader/Forrest). It sucks, but it’s a good way to get more footage of Lil Nog beating someone. More footage = easier to market. That’s my view at least.
A big KO goes a long way. Look at Houston Alexander.

well......
I rather see him fight instead of him bein off the card. go nog for the knockout

I just watched Brilz fight with Eliot Marshall....
He looked atrocious.Lil Nog has absoulutely nothing to gain from this fight. The UFC have got to look to re book some of the upcoming LHW fights, none of them make any sense!
The top of the division is mostly all tied up with pending fights or injuries. If Nog can get an impressive win and stay healthy he can do a quick turnaround for a bigger fight. Like others said, it’s better to get Nog some ring time against a Brilz then keep him on the sidelines for too long.

They could have gave him Thiago or sumin?

VERY underwhelming
They could have maybe looked outside the UFC if there are absolutely no names available. Get Babalu another chance, even a Soku rematch could sell better than this.

I agree. This will be a nice for sure knockout. Who knows maybe even upset of the decade… But I doubt it
please explain how Brilz is even clost to replacing a top 10 fighter?
I know its last minute, but give Nog a name.
this is weak.
