Those of you who are regulars, knew Bow flew cross country this weekend to watch the UFC with me. What a great time we had, I knew we would, but I had to point out what a nice guy he truly is! I admittedly don't have friends, and am not interested in making many, but Bow is a good friend and we really enjoyed watching the event together. It's always nice when my wife (who hates everyone) likes someone too. This forum has given us 2 ufc trips, made some of us friends off the site and is a great place to learn about and talk about mma, those of you new here, take it from me, the vast majority of the guys here are just like you, normal guys who enjoy all sports, especially mma. If you get a chance to get involved in one of the pools or trips, do so. If you disagree with someone, do it respectfully, we all have opinions and can definitely learn from one another! Sorry for the gay rant, but it was from the heart!
I really don't know where to begin for this MMBB, the upsets, the worst decision in mma history (that I can remember) or the humbleness of those defeated? The main event went exactly as I said it would go, Rashad utilizing his speed to stick, move and stay away from Rampages power on the way to a decision victory. What I wasn't expecting was him to out wrestle Rampage like that. The few takedowns were very impressive. I'll be the first to say it was a pretty boring fight, but it's what I expected. I know some of you were dumb enough to think Rashad would stand and bang with Rampage, but come on, seriously? Why would he even think about doing that? Although after that first punch sent Rampage back, it must have crossed his mind. Rampage was very close to winning that fight too, actually, in my opinion he kinda blew it. I re watched the replay of the Rashad knock down about 2 dozen times, by my count Rampage threw 10 punches and landed one. If he had just taken his time I feel he could have fairly easily finished Rashad off.
I was rooting for Nog and so badly wanted to be able to see Nog/Shogun, after that fight I have a newfound respect for Brilz and absolutely can't stand the judging. On what planet did Nog win that fight? He was not only out struck, but out grappled too. Yes I admit, Nog ws going for that sweep often, because he was on his back often. Brilz went for submissions, rocked Nog and won the transition battles. In my opinion, it was the worst decision in mma history that I can remember. Brilz gained a fan in me, I'm sure got paid his win bonus as well as pocketed a well deserved fight of the night bonus, all hats off to him, and win or lose I can't wait to see him in the octagon again.
First thing I said to my wife and Bow was I hope we get to see Duffee go into the 2nd round as I wanted to see his cardio. With the muscles he needs to feed, I was truly expecting him to slow down. I honestly wasn't overly impressed with him. He threw basically the same combination over and over, with success, but with out any kicks or knees. I was a lot more impressed with how many punches, solid punches, Russow took. I've seen punching bags take softer shots and be rocked yet this guy just kept coming forward. Now I don't pretend to know everything, but was that punch any harder than my 8 year old hits me? It must've caught Duffee in a perfect spot to knock him out like that. Too bad, but I agree with what Duffee was saying leading up to this fight, he's way over hyped!
"Hathaway is the perfect caliber fighter for me to come back to 170 against" isn't exactly a confident statement, as a matter of fact it kinda shows where Diego Sanchez is mentally right now...Broken. BJ Penn broke him and took all his confidence away, took his Tony Robbins gay ass "YES" away and forced him into a tough spot. Where does he go from here? Sports psychologist, back to Greg Jackson's? Whatever he does, he needs to really find himself and get his confidence back.
We also had a great win from Nick Diaz on sat morning. I was very surprised that Nick went for a take down because you don't see him do that too often, and I was even more surprised at the ease at which he was taken down. After he got taken down I said here comes the arm bar and sure enough it was text book! Thank you Nick for always showing us great well rounded skills and great respect to both your opponent as well as the Japanese crowd. And then I find this. Man I'd love to see Nick submitting, no showing GSP how to actually finish a submission! Dana White is still interested in Nick Diaz
