MMA Quick Quote: Sorry Brock, rankings are a big pile of BS
"This whole MMA ranking stuff is a big pile of B.S. Everybody is in such love with Brock Lesnar, who came from nothing, zero MMA experience, and now he's considered one of the best? He fought only five times and is now considered Mr. Untouchable? Why not me then? Nobody knows how hard I'm preparing myself. I'm training with the best Polish wrestlers; these are top guys. It's easy to do when you're not fighting for money - I'm already a very wealthy guy with a secured future - but for the love and new challenge, and always for my fans, here in Poland and abroad. I would never, repeat never, start fighting in MMA if I didn't believe I could be the best. First Kawaguchi, then Sylvia - sorry guys, you are in my way."
Five-time World's Strongest Man, Mariusz Pudzianowski, tells MMAWeekly that he's not much different from current UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar in that he too is going to make a late transition to MMA and start beating up everyone in his way -- starting with former Zuffa champ Tim Sylvia at the upcoming Moosin event on May 21 in Worcester. The Polish powerhouse has a lot to prove before he's considered a serious threat in this sport -- but that hasn't stopped him from setting some pretty lofty goals. Anyone think the muscular menace has the chops to make it as a top contender?

What happens to Timmah...
…once Pudzianowski kicks his ass? Does he finally retire from fighting?
by TheFriendlySponge on May 3, 2010 1:25 AM EDT reply actions
Why would he retire if he keeps getting paid?
You might say because of pride or something like that but well all know Tim just wants to get paid if we was taking things serious he would stop coming into fights at 300+ lbs

"I'm training with the best Polish wrestlers" really sounds like a lead in to a bad joke.
I AM SOMETIMES BIASED - Get over it!!!!!!!
He's just trying to get his name out there
Say something about Brock and the MMA media will get his name more exposure and gain more attention for his next fight. Nothing new talk is cheap lets wait and see what results he brings.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
He looks like he's on the "sauce" if you get my drift.
But nah. No one does that. Everyone is clean. RIGHT?? RIGHTTT?
Well
I wish him luck. Brock had a wrestling background though, lifting weights isn’t going to match that.
I’m interested in watching regardless.
Shogun lost a close decision! Everyone get crazy!
I would have to say...
Pudz is athletic because The World Strongest Man competitions are not just powerlifting. Anyone can lift a weight but those guys doing TWSM comps have to be athletic. With that said Brock is athletic and like you said with a background in a big aspect of MMA. On top of that Pudz could never crack the top 10 in the heavyweight division without either being in Strikeforce or UFC right now and they all have mandatory drug tests, so sorry Pudz but drug tests are in your way in ever fighting someone relevant.
by Edgecrusher71 on May 3, 2010 7:55 AM EDT up reply actions
it's not weight lifting
Unless I’m mistaken, WORLD’s STRONGEST MAN isn’t a weightlifting contest, it’s one of those deals where you carry anvils, push tractors, and pull Giant Redwoods up by their roots. LOL. My point is, it requires a lot more balance and stamina than benchpressing or deadlifting. It requires you to be able to actually move and function carrying/pushing/pulling unthinkable amounts of weight. I think it would translate very well into wrestling. Instinctively knowing how to use your own body to control and maneuver someone else’s mass is 80% of wrestling technique.
But Brock has a lifetime of wrestling behind him...
His instincts have been engrained since he was 13. So not only does he have the strength but he does not have to second guess his wrestlling basics. Training for a year with the best wrestlers Poland has to offer, will not make up for a lifetime of wrestling dominance. Brock was not only a big wrestler(he was wrestling guys his size), he was one of the most dominant wrestlers in his time. He was 106-5 over 4 years of NJCAA and Div I wrestling. That is insane. I am not a huge fan of Brock but there is no denying this guy. Brock Is an athletic-wrestling beast. He just needs to have basic stand up and bjj knowledge to avoid danger and set up/implement his game plan. I think Brock would shoot through this guy all night long, at will-whenever he feels like it.
I would love to see Pudz pass the drug testing first on a regualr basis. Steroids and weightlifting/strongman go hand and hand. I have a cousin that competes in body building and he was tellling me nightmare stories of guys all roided out.
"I thought I was getting raped by Freddy Mercury." – Tank after losing a decision to Dan Severn
That was my point too
Sorry if I stated it poorly, World’s Strongest Man takes some good ass athleticism like you stated, with balance, explosion, speed and strength. But, it is still different than having a background in a martial art. I would compare it to a football player coming into mma vs a wrestler type of deal though. Yes big football players are athletic and know how to use their body and move people but the wrestler would still have the advantage imo.

Exactly Shonuff
Plus its a worldwide seriously competitive sport where drug testing is taken very seriously.
With that said, PUDZ is an ABMer lol

this guy may actually make some noise. Say what you will about his experience but I see him giving Sylvia some issues.

Can't hate him for fighting for a challenge..
And I’m actually looking forward to this.
Here’s a guy who’s won a legit world competition 5 times.. He must see a huge oppurtunity in MMA now that he understands that you don’t even need to go through a ranking or qualify to get promoted like the real deal, no system exists. You get your oppurtunity from making yourself a big name and selling tickets which is what Mariusz is going to do!
y'all just ain't me.
And how is he going to do that?
By flexing his muscles and saying “Me Pudz, Me no like Brock so Me Destroy”?
(although that’s not a bad idea to get the ball rolling. lol. )

"Why not me then?"
Because you haven’t captured a UFC title or beaten Couture or Mir! If you beat Tim outside the UFC and after he lost to Ray Mercer then that’s a huge difference. Plus like somebody said… Brock was a top wrestler, you’re just strong!
Fedor played Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun and won... but still avoids the UFC!
Who?
Who is this guy and why is he fighting a Sylvia (who was KOed by Mercer) to prove what exactly?
Did I lose you?
LoL I’m quoting this guy about what he said about Brock being a top ranked guy and not him. It’s a total joke. This guy hasn’t done anything in MMA and Brock has. Even if he beats Tim he wouldn’t have done what Brock has at this point.

If you don’t know for sure it’s a dude, it’s not gay.

Sure
The difference is Brock is a huge strong guy with teckers!! This dude is just a powerful guy from what we know!! Unless he could bench press Brock right off if him I see nothing but a Brock tko! Moreover, does anyone actually think this guy could go 5 rounds, me thinks he will gas quickly?
by the real mo on May 3, 2010 4:58 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
what?
The guy he was fighting was no brock lesnar!! He chases brock like that hel get put straight on his back!! I dont care how strong u are, if someone as big and strong as brock puts u on your back u need more than strength to get back up!! Im not saying this guy cant be good im just saying dont compare the guy he fought to brock lesnar, cos we all know how that fight would end!!
If he keeps winning im sure dana would entertain him in the ufc cos asmentioned before there is no reasn why guys like this can not try and transition skills they have into mma.
One thing tho does anyone know what he weighs?? Id say he looks way more than 265, and doesnt look like it would be an easy cut for him, any thoughts?
he COULD benchpress Brock right off of him!
This guy can benchpress Brock and Carwin at the same time, Boys! We’re not talking about freaking strength here. Brock has freakish strength. We’re talking about super-human strength. This guy stuffs Olympic powerlifters in their lockers for laughs.
weights
weights dont technically make it harder for you to lift them nor do they hit back, lifting brock lesnar at 280 is not like lifting 280 on a bench press…..believe that!!
WOW the intelligence on MMA here is near zero
He could bench press him right off of of him LOL C’mon grow a brain LOL

Is this the WWE?
MMA is changing and in order to become “the most popular sport in the world” its selling itself out an this is the result. Where there’s a quick buck to be made anything will degenerate to appeal to the lowest common denominator…
One day Cro Cop will return...
Not the WWE
MMA is know for having crazy fights outside of the ufc. Look at the Dream hwy tournament for one. Were mma is much different than the WWE is that the fighters acutlly fight so even if theses freak shows or tough guys think they can fight, they have to be able to fight to stay in the sport.
Why is everyone mad when new people try the sport out? The more top athletes hat think they can fight and do well is good for mma. HolyGhost who do you think should be allowed to fight mma? Just people who think are not selling this sport out? What is selling out of the sport? Everyone has he right to train and look for fights. If they want to put him in with an ex ufc champ then that is their right. I dont see how this hurts MMA

Even with no MMA experience,
put him and Randy in the octogan and I doubt Randy would be the one walking out. Frank Mir is overrated, and the bottom line is Brock hasn’t won enough quality matches for him to get all the ass kissing he gets from most of you guys. And he may have high wrestling credentials, but as far as winning his fights are concerned as skilled as he may be, 90% of his victories are down to his strenght and power, and not his wrestling and strength and power is what Pudzianowski is all about. Brock is good but he is not great, he hasn’t been in MMA long enough and beaten enough opponents to be called great. I need to see more victories against quality opponents before I start to believe the sun shines out of his backside like most of you do.
I think you may be right, Ade
Randy is one of my faves and has phenomenal grappling technique AND freakish strength (for his size)….and I don’t think he would touch this fight with a 10-foot pole! There’s a point where power overwhelms technique and this guy is at that point.
I would take the Pudz over Mir anyday of the weak but not against the paycheck
who i hate. With Mir, he’d make him quit for sure.

Tim looks to be in solid shape and remember he did go five rounds with Randy Couture
I think he will use his tremendous reach advantage to extend the fight to the third and then it’s lights out for Mr Muscle. Tim has a huge amount of experience against all the best. He also has something to prove after his last couple of fights.
not impressed at all with pudznianowski
he has no wrestling, judo, bjj, backround and his stand-up is barroom brawl material. it’ll be interesting to see how far his superhuman strength and no skills takes him. my guess is a win over tim sylvia and some other washed up fighters but not much further than that.
is the staredown after the jump like mania says?
I don’t see one. Maybe its a video link?

Mariusz Pudzianowski is not a fighter....
Anyone who has seen him fight is quickly made aware of this fact, but there is no question that Pudzianowski, sans fighting skills, is a dangerous human being to meet in the ring……..It is quite obvious, to me alteast, that Mariusz and his camp have realized there is no fighter that can match his physical attributes……I am a believer of the “skills beat strength” philosophy, but no one should doubt the Physical gifts possessed by the WSM competitors and, most notably, the one who has managed to hold the WSM crown five times…….People’s belief and or fear of Brock Lesnar isn’t because of his wrestling, they can say it is, but the truth is in their speech, reactions in the ring, and comments afterward…….Brock Lesnar’s physical gifts are dwarfed in comparison to Pudzianowski’s and it is only a matter of time before people realize this…….

Sure. Intimidation plays a role, as well. But when it comes down to it, it will be a case of the Skilled vs. the Not-so-skilled(to be kind) if Brock were ever to face Pudz.
And Skill always wins out in these types of fights when two men have just about the same amount of Strength and Raw Power. Brock is going to school Pudz even worse than PBF did to Mosley.
I agree
I agree with Pudzianowski.
With only 5 fights in MMA and he’s ranked higher than a number of other fighters who have probably better resumes like Velasquez, Carwin or Dos Santos?
"There's nothing cool about taking punishment" - Floyd Mayweather Jr.
i dont see mariusz beatin brock. i meen brock is a different type of animal. pudz myt be a bit stronger wen it cums 2 da weights room but brock has that wrestlers strength and thats wat counts in the cage not how much u lift. iv seen guys tht bench 500 lbs get out wrestled and powered by guys that bench 250 lbs. i dont see mariusz beating lesnar, carwin, velasquez, mir, fedor, dos santos. i meen the way he fort in his last fight was like a lil kid fighting. top fighters in the world wont let him do dat to them. i see pudz strugling against kongo or even randy couture
Pudz has nasty kicks
if he takes out a wrestler’s legs they’re done. I got Pudz on this one.
If he tries to pull those TELEGRAPHED via FEDEX Kicks of his on Brock,
He’s going to grab it, break it off, and beat him into next week with it.
Pudz has no chance.
War pudz!!!
I been a fan of this guy since I was a kid. He’s not just a lifter he was probly the fastest strong man. Brock wud get power bombed going for a take down like bob sapp did to 2 big nog. I’m guna have mad fun watching pudz pound big Timmy in2 a pile of poop.
by d*locc on May 3, 2010 12:25 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
Power-Bombed????
Are you 7 years old? This is the MMA, not WWE. It’s actually a LEGIT SPORT, not Entertainment.
- sigh * Children….
pudz is probably the strongest guy to ever walk the planet, i'm pretty sure no mma gym has a guy like that to train with to prepare against pudz.
for all the morons who say his strenghth won’t help him in a fight, wake the fuck up. the reason why we have weight classes is because of differences in strenghth.
pudz is a monster.
with some training he could be more dominant than brock.
by Conan the Barbarian on May 3, 2010 12:54 PM EDT reply actions
the only reason Brock is not the strongest man in the world is because he didn't join the contest
Open up the Shit Gates and where the Hell was Marv?
being strong only takes you so far
I know being strong will help this guy fight, but does he having any technique? training wrestling with a national team does not tell us how good his skill are. Who cares if he is strong when he is laying on his back not being able to move and getting punched in the face. I am sure his boxing isnt really that good either, it takes years of training to get good in those areas and I just dont see how being really strong is going to translate against the level of competition in MMA now.
What I don't understand is this fascination with this guy.
I mean it’s obvious that he is “using”. What’s going to happen to him when he is not able to “use” anymore? He’s going to shrink to a smaller frame and isn’t going to seem as intimidating as before PLUS he will still lack the wrestling/BJJ skill necessary to excel in the Octagon.
Looks like Tim is in better shape
Compared to how he looked vs Mercer. Does Pudz have a chin to take a punch?
I'll try to be brief
Let me start by saying that I am a big WSM competition fan. So I have watched Mariusz many times. His strength is unmatched in the world. If he were to fight Brock, it would be a wise idea for Brock to take him down immediately. But what if he learned to sprawl? Would Brock’s technique be enough for him to put Mariusz on his back? If he did I highly doubt he’d be able to hold him down like he did Mir for the simple fact that his explosive power is unlike anything Brock has ever seen. Mariusz does have an amature boxing background and is a green belt (I know… It’s only green) in Karate. As for the wild leg kicks, I’ll leave you with this thought… He BROKE a training partners leg with a leg kick with what he called 30% power! Take a wrestlers legs, take their base. Just ask Uriah Faber.
"The greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are right sometimes." – Winston Churchill
He throws a leg kick agaisnt Brock he would be flat on his ass
I seen him throw legs kicks against a nobody the gif is above on this thread and break nothing, shin on shin could happen to anyone. Fact remains he may be the strongest man between him an Brock but skill wise Brock destroys him and speed wise brock destroys him. Bob Sapp may be strong but learning to sprawl is one thing learning to sprawl at the right time is another I ve seen many wrestlers take down guys much bigger and stronger than themselves. Wrestling is one of the most fatigueing sports in the world if not the most.
We will see how he does agaisnt big Timmy and if well the UFC may look at him but until then lets wait and see before more stupid comments about strength is everything I think Kongo would of beat Pudz’s last opponent twice as fast.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
There lies the danger in kicking a wrestler
I have to admit, I talked more trash to my meathead friends about his first fight probably than anyone else. It was sloppy and amature at best, but he did show something in that fight that people should pay attention to. he has a killer instinct. IF he knows how to throw a punch and he could pin someone against a cage like Randy would do all the time, he definitely would have the power to cause some damage. Tim Sylvia’s trainer was actually question whether he (Mariusz) could crush Tim’s scull if he got it in a guillotine choke! You keep mentioning speed but that is only because we have yet to see what kind of speed Mariusz has. There are so many unknowns with him. We KNOW what Brock will do. “Take em’ down GnP!!” It will be exciting to see Mariusz use the same dedication he used to win WSM 5 times in MMA. Oh… You think Kongo would have beat that guy in under 25 seconds. We’ve all seen him fight. I doubt that. =)

*questioning... oops.
"The greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are right sometimes." – Winston Churchill
We haven't seen either fighter entire game hell we haven't seen fighters with 30 fights in entire game
Brock is ahead of the curve as far training for the ground game goes and able to control the best in the game. His takedowns are explosive and fast, one missed punch or kick and his opponent may be on the mat on his back faster than a blink of the eye. his form is perfect and his balance is great. Pudz strength is impressive no doubt but his skill is miles behind Brocks.
Many wonder why Brock is so successful and it’s not rocket science why, like Barnett his style is simple but he is so good at it. Takedowns are a huge part of a wrestler game and easily adapted to MMA, Brocks is text book something that will take Pudz much longer to learn to do have as good including in defending against. Balance is also huge were wrestling balance is developed over years of training along with feel and timing something Pudz may be able to overcome agaisnt many fighters with his brute strength but I doubt guys like Brock and Carwin.
We will see how Brocks stand up has developed as he was focusing and training up to october until he got the gut problem and continued in February to start on and if his stand up is improved he will be even that much better as he is fast for a big man as well as heavy handed. I really don’t know how heavy handed Pudz strikes are as they seem slow as as the muscle mass he has would be expected but his leg kicks seem to be his go to early in his career but the stand up is not a huge advantage by what we have seen from BRock besides his explosive movement for a big man.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
