a mismatch in my opinion..

but that arm bar was pretty awsome, theres no way he’d do that to gsp though..

For what profit is it to man if he gains the world , and loses his own soul?

By the way, even though his absence leaves argument for not deserving a shot, if KJ Noons beats Krazy Horse it would be good to see Diaz/Noons II so Diaz can get a chance to redeem himself.

Noons would have to come up

I dont think Diaz is going to cut to LW anymore.

I agree. I thought of that afterward. But anything can happen. I suppose KJ is small for a WW, thus a proportional advantage would go to Diaz.

noons doesnt desurve a shot at nick anymore

He had his chance years ago when he refused to rematch nick and now that nick is tearing it up he wants to fight him. Screw noons!

Great Fight

much repect to Sakurai and great sportsmanship via Diaz.

How many more warnings was the ref going to give Sakurai before there was an actual consequence to repeatedly hitting Diaz in the back of the head (immediately after being warned not to do so).

It made me think of the scene in Holy Grail where the Lord/Duke/Regeant tells the guards to watch his son until he comes back.

“Hey, you can’t hit him in the back of the head”
“Got it. I can hit him in the back of the head as much as I want.”
“No. You can hit him anywhere you want, except the back of the head.”
“Right. I can hit him anywhere I want, especially the back of the head.”
“Except the back of the head.”
“OHH! Now I get it. I can’t hit him anywhere except the back of the head.”

Lesnar/Mir

And to think Mazagatti took a point away from Brock for one punch…

by Sammy Noodleman on May 29, 2010 12:25 PM EDT up reply actions

i was thinking that exact same thing

the ref kept warning him over and over and mach just looked at him like, “im not hitting him in the back of the head”. props to diaz though for getting the w, now he wont have any problems with paying that $7,500 fine.

never have any regrets, because at the time, thats all you wanted to do

Yeah I hate that rule, if the fighter on top or bottom can turn their head so the fighters strong arm can't throw strikes

A fighter that makes contact with the face on his first strike should not get penalized if the the fighter he’s hitting turns his head so that all you can hit is the back of the head. Not saying Diaz did this intensionally but there was no other strikes Mach could of thrown in his position and if your getting hit in the back of the head when your head is in the same position I don’t think it should be a foul.

So....

No moving away from punches in the face? No turning away from a fist coming at your nose? I don’t get this one Puck.

Solid Fight

against a tough veteran like Sakurai. Nick got rocked for a moment but came through with a sweet transition to an armbar, Nick has really become won of the top 5 welterweights IMO.

wow

Wow! Good fight. Cool to see Diaz show some class.

Easy win for Nick as expected

Very nice armbar and a great show of class at the end. Mach was never going to win this, he’s not training properly anymore and he hasn’t looked the same since that Whitemare headkick. Good show of class by Nick at the end, though raising the same arm that he just armbarred must have hurt it was still a classy gesture.

diaz vs gsp?

are you Diaz lovers crazy? how could he possibly beat GSP? NO f-in way.

He doesn’t have the power to knock him out. he doesn’t have the crisp punches to stand with him at all. He definitely doesn’t have the wrestling to take him down! Where o where can he beat GSP? maybe in your dreams, but I don’t think even diaz has those wet dreams.
and if you think he can sub him, I think he would need his brother and rest of the team to hold him down first.
You guys must be CRAZY!

by THEMIXEDTRUTH on May 29, 2010 2:53 PM EDT reply actions

I think GSP would beat Diaz

But you saying there’s no way that Nick could win is laughable.

I think it is funny how people say Diaz does not have the power to KO GSP lol. I guess that was not Diaz that face planted Lawler with one punch. Not to mention Zaro, Shamrock ect…

by Jason Oram on May 29, 2010 4:31 PM EDT reply actions

Nick's a great accumulative puncher

Nobody can land as many punches as him in MMA and it’s a very effective style, he struggled a little on the feet with Mach here and clearly was more comfortable with his advantage on the ground than on the feet but like you said anyone that KOs Shamrock, Whitemare, Smith and Lawler is a good puncher. Nick is one of the few guys that could pose a threat to GSP though ultimately I think that GSP would control him on the ground for 5 rounds, however Nick is improving all of the time and he would be a threat to the belt.
