Of course he's in shape

The guy values money above all and wouldn’t want to lose some of his purse because he didn’t make weight. It doesn’t change much and who knows how much that took out of him to even get into that shape. Rashad has been training for months for this fight and just because Rampage decided to trim down finally doesn’t mean much to me.

What are you saying???

If a fighter isn’t fighting for the money, what is he fighting for? Why are there ppv?

by delldog on May 25, 2010 9:34 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm not saying money isn't important

but Rampage has already stated that he doesn’t care about the belt and isn’t really into MMA anymore so he’s obviously all about the money.

Is it really boxing when you only throw two punches?

Throwing looping right and left hooks isn’t really boxing. It’s more like brawling.

boxing defense counts too though...

No chance Shad will hit him as clean as he landed on Forrest or Chuck

Fedor > All.

by freenow82 on May 25, 2010 9:41 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree with that. But he isn't a good offensive boxer, his defence on the other hand....

In a boxing match with a real boxer smaller than him he’d be killed.

by jay. on May 25, 2010 9:47 AM EDT up reply actions

His MMA boxing is far from shit, especially when compared to that of other fighters.

Same reason I get pissed about people talking about Rashad’s footwork. It’s nothing special. All he does is bounce around a lot. Footwork is about creating angles and moving outside of the pocket. Rashad really isn’t very good at that.

"You made your decision, now live with your decision."

by Diceman on May 25, 2010 10:38 AM EDT up reply actions

so true

Rashad is just a bouncer…

He doesn’t even commit to strikes from angles…

Fedor > All.

by freenow82 on May 25, 2010 10:39 AM EDT up reply actions

Bouncing around is good enough to do what he has to do in this fight.

Tire out Page with his running. I have never said that Shad had good footwork.

This is what happens when you bet on a loser like Cote, I should have listened to David W-S

by jay. on May 25, 2010 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions

I didn't mean to imply that you thought Rashad had good footwork, I was just trying to introduce a similar gripe that I have about a strong point of a fighter being exagerrated.

I don’t think bouncing will be enough. Page walking him down won’t gas him out nearly as much as stuffing Rashad’s takedowns would. Rashad’s getting beat.

"You made your decision, now live with your decision."

and he has great defensive boxing, thats it!

by kevjack115 on May 25, 2010 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions

brawling is a boxing style, and hooks certainly takes technique something many mma fighters have problem with so they just blame it on “soft” hands. You can’t go out and play like you’re going to have a pro boxing match in mma, the gloves are too small and the punches are too hard and there’s kicking and kneeing involved.

If Page is too slow then

how come he has lost only once in the UFC? And that loss to Forrest was controversial at best.

If he is too slow then how come
Chuck, Hendo, Wandy, and Jardine couldn’t put him queer street and end his nite? Let me guess, they are all slower than Page.

and if Rashad’s hands are so quick along with being heavy, how come he has only KO’ed Chuck with his hands?

by WarriorSaint on May 25, 2010 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Here we go again....Jay

Rampage has the best MMA boxing in the game. Regular boxing wouldn’t work in the UFC because said boxer would have to worry about getting taken down, something he doesn’t have to worry about in real boxing which tends to make one throw more varied strikes.

Go back and watch the Wand/Page 3 you will notice that Page throws a jab first and THEN Wandy responds by throwing a flurry of short hooks. Page did the best thing in that scenario which was to duck/cover/roll out with a hook of his own and it worked flawlessly.

AGAIN, this ain’t boxing, its MMA so the boxing will look a little different than traditional boxing just like Machida’s Karate looks a little different than traditional Karate because of the take downs.

always borrow money from a pessimist, they won't expect it back anyway!

by WarriorSaint on May 25, 2010 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions

He didn't look like a vastly superior grappler

against Keith Jardine which was the last fight he had, in fact I did not see anything in that fight that Rashad should be worried about. You guys need to leave the time machines alone and stop thinking that any of the fighters are still the same as they were in Pride because they aren’t. Wandy is the furthest from the fighter he once was, and you are kidding yourselves if you think Rampage is capable of taking the beating he took back then, even he has said that all that punishment has taken a lot out of him and was one of the reasons he was thinking about qutting. Ramapge may be a better boxer but vastly superior I think not. And as far as not being able to take page down is concerned you do remember that Rashad one TUF as a heavyweight, and he was the smallest one competing. He had no problem at all taking any of those guys down and they were much bigger that him, in fact Rashad does not have a problem taking any one down when he attempts to, and Rampage will not be any different, with or without the lay off. Rashad is very strong for his size which is something a lot of fans forget, and he has one of the most explosive take downs in that division. Ramapge has had vastly superior opponents without doubt, and back in the Pride days Jardine wouldn’t have lasted more than a round, but that was then this is now. I normally wouldn’t be fussed who wins this even though I find Rampage more annoying than funny, but because of all the shit Rashad seems to get for no reason, I am rooting for him. Haters always seem to make excuses for his wins and give him no credit at all whenever he proves them wrong, when they were so sure he was going to lose, at least you guys have a valid excuse like the long lay off.

by Ade on May 25, 2010 12:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Cone on ade

Rampage is the strongest 205er in the division. He’s way stronger than rashad. His wrestling is sound when he uses it and he’ll cope with rashads attacks. Rashad couldn’t take Tito down till he gassed. It’s not his size which will stuff the takedown it’s his wrestling.

Rashad has had the best trainers, training partners and gameplanner on his side. He’s also fought more regular than page.

Even with all those advantages his only chance is to get on his bike and run.

His chin is gone sine machida almost killed him.

I am not disputing that Rampage is stronger,

just that it will not be that much of an issue considering that Rashad was the smallest heavyweight on TUF and he won it without much difficulty. That definately showed that he is much stronger than he looks. I do remember Tito holding the fence on one attempt and from what I remember Tito is not supposed to be an easy guy to put on his back. As far as the chin is concerned, I will wait until I see him get KTFO again, to agree with you on that.

by Ade on May 29, 2010 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions

That's just Rampage being Rampage.

…by grinding out a decision (I’m hoping) that could be lackluster, I’m just glad there’s going to be a Brillz murder, I took Hathaway for the “Yes! Yes! Yes”, upset. And we get to see if Duffee is anything special at all. I’m thinking he wins but in less then spectacular fashion. Oh and a ‘W’ for the always popular ‘Count’.

Good card start to finish. With Lauzon pulling it off despite camp/bro feuds and Amir falling victim to a ‘Stun Gun’.

7 fights actually interesting to me that are aired. Honestly, doesn’t happen often.

can i ask what you get out of the weigh ins?

I’m not trying to be a jerk at all Champ. But we all know they’ll both make weigh ins no problem. And we all know Rampage is gonna be way more intimidating and about 2 inches taller at the staredown which will be broken up after they talk sh*t and Rampage shoves him.

I just want to see what kind of energy and demeanour he brings on Friday.

Rampage will do whatever it takes to sell a fight but after seeing James Irving at his last weigh in, you can get a lot from a weigh in. Just saying a pic doesn’t really say much and maybe his own camp allowed for this pic to be released so that mma fans can be convinced his ready for the fight.

i gathered all that but...

…I’m yet to really change a pick based on the weigh ins. I feel I know the fighters I’m picking well enough that I’m hard to stray away from who I picked as it is. But I guess to each their own. Some fighters don’t even make eye contact at weigh ins and are still very dominant. Best of luck though.

by daniel worby on May 25, 2010 10:18 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Worbs....outside of the weigh ins

I think a point that has been overlooked in all of these Page/Shad threads is the following FACT:

Getting KO’d does strange things to the psyche. This will be Shad’s second fight since getting KO’ed. The first fight Shad showed that he was definitely concerned with getting into an exchange with Thiago. This is interesting because Thiago has horrible punch defense and a succeptible chin. Reminds me of how Forrest fought after getting KO’ed by Jardine, very tentative and a lot more bicycle.

I don’t believe that Rashad is ready to get hit in the head again especially by a guy who clearly hits harder than Thiago Silva.

Rashad may not look sacred at the weigh-ins but trust me once they stand in the octagon his chin will be tested by Rampage unless Rampage chooses a different game plan which I doubt.

Rashad has a great chance at this fight. Rampage is going to be so mad that he’s going to gas himself out in the 1st round while Rashad gets his timing down and sticks n moves the whole round. Then Rashad will really pick his shots in the 2nd and start to batter Rampage and get a a TD or 2 to solidify the round and then in the 3rd he’s going to take him down and put a beating on him. Sorry to break it to you but Rampage has no chance in this fight.

No doubt Page will be in shape

That last countdown show , he was running 7 1/2 minute miles…Even though he is in a fight and not a race, 7 min milles is a pretty good time

Sportsbook has Rampage at even and Rashad at -130

This is what happens when you bet on a loser like Cote, I should have listened to David W-S

Why is he still wearing Affliction? Do they still sponsor him or is that all he owns?

He probably doesn’t have many that fit anymore

You just get that sucker to the designated place at the designated time, and I will gladly designate his ass... for DISMEMBERMENT!

Rampage looks in good shape.

That silenced all the haters who said he wouldnt make weight and that he is in terrible shape, Rampage is looking mega prepared for this fight, I cant wait its going to be a war.

First fight against quailty opposition

And look at the state of the douche.

Would love to see it again. So over rated and overhyped it’s untrue!

This means really bad news for Rashad,

Because shape and conditioning were my biggest fears for Rampage. Goddamn that Striking Unlimited place in L.V. looks like a sick facility.
