UFC 117: Clay Guida vs Rafael dos Anjos in the works for Aug. 7 in Oakland
Fan favorite Clay Guida and submission specialist Rafael dos Anjos are in talks to compete in a lightweight bout at UFC 117 on August 7 from the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, according to Tatame.com, who confirms an earlier report by MMA Recap.
"The Carpenter," who has become one of the UFC's more popular fighters because of his relentless attack and never-say-die attitude, was finished via rear naked choke in a dominant performance from perennial lightweight contender Kenny Florian at UFC 107 in December of last year.
He rebounded from that defeat with a second round submission victory over Shannon Gugerty at UFC on Versus 1 in March. Guida will be looking to compile back-to-back wins with a victory over dos Anjos after recently suffering consecutive losses to Diego Sanchez and "KenFlo."
Rafael is coming off a "Submission of the Night" victory against Terry Etim at UFC 110: "Invincible" in Abu Dhabi last month and a unanimous decision win over Kyle Bradley at UFC Fight Night: "Maynard vs. Diaz." He's reeled of three straight wins inside the Octagon.
The Brazilian notched his first win inside the Octagon by outpointing Rob Emerson at UFC 103: "Franklin vs. Belfort" back on Sept. 19, 2009 after coming off the wrong end of Tyson Griffin decision at UFC Fight Night 18 back on April 1 of last year. Despite the loss, he was game the entire bout, earning him and Griffin an extra 30 G's for putting on "Fight of the Night."
Dos Anjos definitely has skills. Aside from winning nine straight prior to UFC 91, where the Fury FC fighter was stifling Jeremy Stephens for most of their bout until a thunderous uppercut nearly air-mailed him back to Rio.
Expect these two to put on yet another crowd-pleasing performance.
Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more UFC 117 fight announcements as they're made available.

GO GUIDA!!
For what profit is it to man if he gains the world , and loses his own soul?

“Fan Favorite” is a bit of a stretch when talking about Huggie. He’s way more entertaining than Fitch, but still.
I'm a pan-handlin', man-handlin', post-holin', high-rollin', dust-bowlin' daddy
it's not a stretch at all
he consistently receives the loudest ovations from the crow at both the weigh ins and the actual fights.
still not going anywhere...deal with it
Odd. I don’t know how he gets all this love when Fitch, Shields and other wrestlers get hated on.
I'm a pan-handlin', man-handlin', post-holin', high-rollin', dust-bowlin' daddy
It’s probably because of some of the wars he’s been in (Griffin, Sanchez) and he always seems to be pressing the action and looking to finish. He only used the lay n pray tactics really badly against Diaz and Danzig.
still not going anywhere...deal with it
because
Fitch doesn’t do damage from his controlling position. Guida rains down elbos, and…shoulder…attacks…
Overall Guida is just a much more exciting fighter, and I don’t find him to be a lay-n-pray guy. But god I hate Fitch. Hope Alves puts him away.

i like Fitch
i remember when he was everyone’s favorite and everyone was all pissed cuz he was never on the main card and he was getting screwed out of a title shot… lol UFCMania days
John Hathaway over Diego Sanchez
Its the hair
It adds to the mystique that he’s working really really hard in there when you see it flying all over the place. Plus…he gets help from the Geico caveman ads. Its like guida advertising lol.

WAR DOS ANJOS!
The world is a dangerous place to live - not because of the people who are evil but because of the people who don't do anything about it. - Albert Einstein
if he can put a compression lock on Griffin,
that RNC will fit nicely around the LNP caveman. That or death via leg kicks.

Yes He Is.
He is going to put Anjos gas tank to the test as he does just about everybodies. I think Clay wins but its going to be very competetive.

Im thinking Dos Anjos submits him...
hes finally getting comfortable in the Octagon, and has some good momentum going into this fight..
John Hathaway over Diego Sanchez
I don’t like his chances of submitting Guida. Most of Guida’s submission losses have come after he gets rocked and is not completely there. He has shown some pretty great submission defense with his huggy bear type of offense/stalling.
still not going anywhere...deal with it
Guida Is Amazing At Stifling The Bottom Games Of BJJ Guys
I have rarely seen him being submitted not only in his fights but also in training…

ahh that's right he's at Jackson's
Is that a full time thing or does he come back to Illinois for training too?
still not going anywhere...deal with it
He Would Have To Go Somewhere
Cuz he isnt always in Albuquerque

Woulda taken Guida back in the day
but hes underachieved recently and dos anjos looked real good against etim…ill take dos anjos via sub
I was wondering the same thing ANS
He has never been top 5, he beats the guys he should beat and loses to the guys he should lose to

Right If Anything He Overachieves
By being so competetive with guys better then him
by AintNoSunshine on May 10, 2010 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions
ok, youre right, my bad
underachieved may have been the wrong word…actually it definitely was…i just feel like hes never beaten anyone of note except diaz and that was a close fight…it was a split decision if i remember correctly…before his fight with sanchez i woulda thought he was a top 5er but i think after back to back losses he kinda came back to earth in my eyes at least…dos anjos is an up and comer who could pose a problem for him
Your Right
Like Domino Effect said above he beats guys he should beat and loses to guys better then him. He is just a hard working gate keeper that noone really wants to fight

you didnt get that from what i said?!?!?
haha jk, well said ANS…thats definitely accurate…unfortunately though i think dos anjos is gonna take this one which sucks cuz i like guida…i feel like hes a paper fighter…everyone gives him a chance on paper but in actuality hes just not very good
Dos Anjos Has What it Takes To Win
He better train to be on his back for 15 minutes though

Hey Jesse
You have Rafeal’s last fight listed as 110 Invincible in Abui Dabi instead of 112. Just a heads up.
