Chael Sonnen: Anderson 'The Nuisance' Silva ruined Christmas for Rampage fans

Silva-bling_medium

Props: Heavy.com

Quoteworthy:

"He’s a grown man with earrings. He’s a grown man with saggy pants, pink t-shirts and crooked hats. Go join a gang, don’t get in the UFC. People don’t care about him. He came out and said he’s gonna go heavyweight, no one cared. So he comes out and says well ‘I’m gonna go light heavyweight,’ no one cared. ‘Well I’m gonna retire.’ Good! Beat it, this is back page news, no one cares about you anyway. ‘Well I’m not gonna retire I’m gonna stick around.’ Or do that. Again, it doesn’t really matter, you’re a nuisance. So who cares, they go make the little action figures and the two little kids that bought em, are probably pretty upset, their parents probably thought it was Quinton Jackson when they bought it for them and the kids had a disappointing Christmas I would imagine. That's a big difference. I became the number one contender on February and February 7 he sent out a press release as to why he shouldn't have to fight me. On August 7 he will fight me. I stand here of my own free will. He stands here because Uncle Dana is making him."

UFC middleweight number one contender Chael Sonnen talks backstage at the WEC 48: "Aldo vs. Faber" media festivities about fighting Anderson Silva on August 7 for the UFC middleweight championship. Sonnen credits "The Spider" for his skill set, but slams his recent performances inside the cage including the bizarre antics that marred the recent UFC 112 main event. Forget for a second about winning, can the part-time Realtor and political hopeful even force the Brazilian to fight without ending up face first on the canvas ala Forrest Griffin? And to Sonnen's point, does anyone even care if he does?

wow the "no one cares about silva" speech again

I knew this guys material would wear on me LONG before the fight even got close. And here we are, months away and this guy is peddling the same bullsh*t as his last quote. If no one cares about Andy, at least they know who he is.

3 SF title fight decisions is somehow "embarrassing garbage", but 3 UFC title fight decisions isn't?

That pricks just upset that no kids want his toy

Everytime this moron speaks I want to see him get punched, he has no respect for anyone and has never had an exciting fight in his life. Nobody cared about Sonnen until he started talking shit and once Andy murders him he’ll just be another victim caught in the Spiders web.

ALWAYS flawless and LONG TIME fan favorite

the Leites fight was flawless? The Maia fight? What about the disrespect he showed Forrest (trying to help him up)? This guy is a piece of shit and if my blind hate wants to hang on Sonnen beating the shit out of this douchebag, so be it.

Spider has NEVER been a fan favorite. In fact he is always paired with a quality draw so people will actually WATCH him (hint: BJ Penn)! He has NEVER and will never be a quality draw for the UFC because of his arrogance. Talented, yes. Fan favorite, never.

And BTW, worbsy, glad you have been watching the UFC since Leben was put on a plate for Spider. Adds to the relevancy of the time you have been given to swing on the Spider’s nuts.

Yeah but he took it way overboard with Maia

Another fight like that, as dominant as he is, and Dana should cut his ass. Nobody can defend his actions in that fight. And then he goes and bows to Maia at the end of the fight and telling the ref and anybody else who will listen how sorry he is. Fuck your sorry. You know/knew what you were doing.

Nowhere. I just can't believe that you would be

satisfied with him as long as he wins even if it was the way he fought Maia. I wouldn’t miss him in the UFC if I knew he was just going to screw around, do what it took to win a decision and never show his supreme talents.

by Adam T. on Apr 29, 2010 10:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Agreed.

Hopefully the match ups from here on out will allow us to see the very talented and ferocious Anderson Silva that we had always loved to watch. Sonnen will be aggressive and either have Andy on his back in some trouble (although I see next to no chance of Andy being finished) or getting knocked out on the way in. Like Chael, just don’t see how he can do that for 25 minutes.

by Adam T. on Apr 29, 2010 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions

see and i agree

Its hard at times to defend his actions. But its easier to defend a win then a loss. We all know (I hope) what Andy is capable of when he wants to finish. Unfortunately I think Andy sees it as: if you give me a guy that I KNOW has no chance, you’re insulting me, so ill insult you by making a mockery of him. Is it right? Maybe not. Is it effective? Well thus far its proven to be.

This also leads me to believe that as much as Chael claims he’ll push the pace, I see takedown stuffs and pitter patter jabs embarrassing chael in to a similar situation an d similar outcome. I know this prediction won’t sit well. But that doesn’t dismiss the possibility.

He makes a mockery of himself every time he does this and the numbers prove that DW has paired him with a draw to even keep him relevant.

k heres the problem

You act as if Spider gives a flying fuck is he’s “a draw”. He’s right up there if not the highest paid in the league. He just resigned for what 6 or 7 more fights? And he’s the most dominant champ the ufc has. Keep him relevant? He doesn’t have to do shit except win to stay relevant. How can you spin him as non relevant when you have no one in the best org in mma that can beat him ulfie boy?

3 SF title fight decisions is somehow "embarrassing garbage", but 3 UFC title fight decisions isn't?

by daniel worby on Apr 29, 2010 11:08 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

He should give a fuck (you like flying fuck alot BTW)....

Contracts are only as good as the paper they are written on, and DW has an out clause, that I can guarantee.

He is relevant and my emotions, mostly hate, got the better of me. Then you add the other shit to the fire (dolls), when I honestly did not even see it that way and it causes me to write shit out of pure aggression.

It doesn’t change the fact that he is not a draw or that I want him to lose with a passion.

fair enough lol

I take pride that I’m so able to get you worked up ha ha. I’m the same way at times. I still disagree on him being a draw I just feel he’s not as large a draw as most the champs. But other than that what single fighter would out draw him if they were fighting a relative nobody?

And ya his contract can be cut short, but as long as he’s winning it simply will not happen. The last thing dana needs is sf having the most successful fighter/champ in mma history on their cards.

I definitely see that side but I also

see the side that says that Maia was the best available opponent for him at the time and as long as he plans on holding his middleweight belt he needs to defend it and not act like the guy has no right to even be in the same ring as him. There is no way the Maia fight and the Sonnen fight will look anything alike. Sonnen will engage and either get knocked out while setting up his shot or he will put Anderson on his back and then we will see what kind of gnp he can perform in Silva’s guard. This won’t be a boring fight Daniel, no way.

I love the Maia Trash talk...

I am taking a Spider leg home with me, lol…That is far from disrespectful! That makes me laugh everytime I hear that. A BJJ guy making a claim of winning by taking a limb, imagine that.

It would be nice to see him come out angry and to prove a point. I have been a Silva fan since Pride and Cage Rage, but he half lost me after the Maia and Leites debacles. I think him losing or Chael pushing him to actually work and win could be a good thing for him, maybe spark a fire under him again. I realize it has to suck to be the P4P best fighter and get stuck fighting guys because of availabilty but that is part of the job.

well said adam t

Maia was the best available opponent and that can be agreed upon. And like I said I don’t necessarily agree with everything Andy does, but it does seem he’s unimpressed that he has to fight guys like him and his ego and superior talent allow him to act like he does at times.

As for the NO WAY its a boring fight, I hope you’re right of course. But I’m not sold. I’ve seen many say they’ll push the pace and be relentless then get in there with the champ feel out classed and instantly abandon that (diego/penn comes to mind).

If andy sits chael down with some jabs and stuffs a few td’s chael may feel quite out done and could lead to a repeat. Hope I’m wrong but I cannot out rule it.

Nah Silva's just looked human; I'll tell you exactly what happened

He wasn’t sending some message, or making a mockery of the fight intentionally; he wants to attain a legendary status; Michael Jordan/Roy Jones type high lights.

He was show boating, he was well ahead; probably threw himself off mentally with his taunts and actions when he realized what he was doing; then Maia nuts up in the 4th rd and clocks him with a shot he doesn’t expect; hurts him a little more than he thought. Taunts stop, all he does is ride out the UD.

He’s not some invincible master that no one can beat; he’s trying to project that but I think what we saw at 112 was a chink in the armor. Chael might actually be able to get it done if Silva’s approach doesn’t change.

Hyoping the fight can be done in many ways. As well Silva showed he didn’t handle Maia comments that were not that bad how will he react to Sonnens. This could be Sonnen playing the mental game as well as hypeing the fight.

I think its all a big ego thing and also a low blow at dana. I really think they don’t like each other much. Andy I think says what he says after the fight because its politically correct and even though its a lie that he “just couldn’t finish him” or “didn’t like what he said about me”, there’s not much dana can do about it.

oh wow where to start with how stupid your post just was

Leben/Spider,

Yes, there clearly was NO UFC for me to watch BEFORE Anderson right? So I “started watching” UFC when he debuted? Makes sense lil man.

Spiders Popularity:

Ya, NO ONE likes him! Chael said it! He’s definitely not a draw! That’s why BJ was put BEFORE him when clearly both of them had a title on the line.

Silva’s matched up with others that sell:

This one was my favorite idiot line of the month! I can’t wait to see how many tickets will be sold due to Chaels EXTREME popularity! And how many were in the past due to Cote/Leites/Maia etc. Ya, Dana must be counting the ’Moo’la from those Cash Cows! Congrats on your new fan favorites Dana!

Flawless Leites/Maia/Forrest fight:

Ummmm ya, I’d say when you look at the damage sustained and scorecards (what us old time regular folk judge these fangled fights by), then yep, that’s about as flawless a guy can be I reckon sonny.

At least get your quotes right, and I expected the name calling much sooner as that is your only way to try to prove a point.

If you can find “started watching” in any of my comments, I will join ABM.

Also, I even gave you a HINT as to who he has been paired up with, not his opponents. (estimated buy-rate in ( ).
UFC 112 – BJ Penn (500k)
UFC 101 – BJ Penn (fought Forrest, a huge draw) (850K)
UFC 97 – Chuck Liddell (650K)
UFC 90 – only major draw (300k)
UFC 82 – vs Henderson only major draw (325k) – see a pattern?
UFC 77 – vs Ace only major draw (325k) – now do you see it?

For shits and giggles, here are the cards directly before and after his last few events:
UFC 111 – GSP 770k
UFC 102 – Couture 435k
UFC 100 – Brock and GSP 1.5MM
UFC 98 – Evans/Machida/Hughes 650k
UFC 96 – Rampage 350k
UFC 91 – Brock/Couture 920k
UFC 89 – free TV

You should probably get the picture. Wow, ALL of the PPV’s (except the one that had Forrest on it with him) did more buys! If Silva does not have another draw on the card, people don’t buy the PPV. HE IS NOT A DRAW BY HIMSELF.

ya what a HUGE shock that Brock and GSP outsell Andy!

Alert the media! Canada per capita is the biggest supporter of UFC around so GSP cards selling well makes sense. Combine him with Brock (THEE biggest seller in mma) and add the fact it was called the biggest card ever? Well not a shock. So Ace wasn’t a name either? I doubt that. And Rampage wasn’t a draw either?

I think some ppl tend to care about who andy is fighting. Its not a huge sell because no one gives a flying fuck and 99.9% haven’t even heard of Maia/Sonnen/Nate/Cote/Thales at all! And even after Andy beat them their still “that guy andy beat”.

Ps I was paraphrasing that’s why I didn’t place your words in quotations. As it wasn’t a quote. But it was lead to look that way by saying you were glad I’ve been watching the UFC since Andy got handed Leben. VERY easy to take that the way I did.

Man, I'm actually on your side on this one...

kinda. I like Silva but for the past couple of fights, I’ve started to quickly dislike what he’s becoming. I really can’t blame Soares because he’s doing HIS job. Soares job is to hype Silva, get him the most money and try to keep him Champion. The contrast to that is that when Silva first hit the “Big Time”, he seemed and acted like he wanted to challenge himself and wanted to shine at an equal level to his skill. Now it just seems that he’s allowed the attention to get to his brain and believes he outshines his skill and doesn’t have a thing to prove. Fuck that. If you don’t want to challenge yourself, that’s fine, but don’t expect respect for it.

But when did you ever see Michael hang back and not put 100% into his performance? Or Brett Favre phone it in? Silva tries too hard to be the Bruce Lee from the movies instead of the Bruce Lee from real life. Humility goes a long way. He has Bruce Lee-esque ability, but his ego is a hinderance.

^^ this. How many times do people overlook a wrestler?

by frosnt1 on Apr 29, 2010 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions

my intent is not to overlook him

But is it wrong that as dominant a champ as Andy is, I feel less threat to his reign when he’s facing a guy like Sonnen? I mean ya he beat Nate, but so did Silva (impressive for both). Hendo? Say what you like about the Hendo of recent, but he was a definite force to reckon with (wrestling) at their time of fight. Leites/Maia were both ‘not to be over looked’ due to their superb ground game. And he demolished a highly acclaimed Ace at the time twice!

I’m sorry but Chael and his fight history just don’t strike much worries into me. If we were talking about a man who loses sometimes I may worry more especially if he were facing someone like Vitor or GSP or Shogun. But til then, I’m not that worries til “something that shocks the world” happens.

Funny thing, OJR...

The first post about the US dollar being the world’s curreency was a F up. My system crashed halfway through and it apparently posted. I wanted to add that the economy really does suck, but, here goes Econ 101…

The US dollar represents the basket of goods that is the US economy which is 30% of the world’s economy. It is universally accepted in any country because of the implicit guarantee by our government to redeem at face value.

Oil is valued in US dollars because we are kings of consumption and have the most sophisticated finance network on the planet. (if it was valued in something else, we would change monetary policy to our advantage to make it cheap, ie inflation/defaltion/stagflation)

China pegs the yuan to our dollar because with out us they have no where to sell their goods. They are a net importer without us and a zerosum economy. If their currency exceeds ours, they make less money and the 999 million people that could get pissed off and ruin the whole communist experiment would get pissed.

This would be much easier in person. If your are interested, read zerohedge.com ask BZ, he’ll agree.

LOL there is a reason when you go to Mexico, Dominican, Cuba

For holidays and the vendors and staff members at the hotels hate Americans LOL My buddy just came back from Dominican he was there the last four days of American spring break but was sure to tell the staff that served him booze he was canadian. If your American there is a good chance your beer has pee in it and I’m not making sh^t up. Americans are known as lousy tippers and they treat others like slaves in many cases.

I’m telling you friends if your american and go somewere tell the staff at the all inclusice your Canadian, you will find out many scary things as the staff becomes friendly with you. In Mexico I heard some scary stories about shit they do to you guys so they can serve you with a smile LOL

But thats what comes with arrogance. “Yes sir here is your cold beer sir” LOL

Usually Daniel, I agree with a lot of whta you say

but if they were looking for a Chuck Liddell doll, who they’ve SEEN on Dancing With The Stars, wouldn’t they be looking for a white action figure? I mean its not a racial issue but to totally disregard what you’ve VISUALLY identified would be silly, therefore that’s a silly argument. Now you could say that if they were looking for a Rampage doll because of the A-Team, wouldn’t they be looking for a “tattooed, heavily built, black guy with a mohawk”…then there’d be a case.

That being said, Sonnens comments could easily be interpreted as being racist. It’s always dodgy when you imply that 2 people if the same skin colour look the same or when you claim that a black man should join a gang. For a politician he doesn’t seem to think before he says things. He’s going to end up saying something that could get him into big trouble like Mir did if he carries on like this.

I miss the mamacitas with the round asses. That's it!

I used to dislike Sonnen for some stupid reason. Little did I know he’s one of the only guys in the UFC who speaks an ounce of truth.

And sounds like a racist to top it of

I haven’t seen Silva wear a hat to often outside of the night of the fight to often have you? Pink Shirt? Silva should join a gang? What truth or you speaking of?

Love it.

Finally, an intelligent guy in the UFC who smack talks. I imagine he doesn’t have much of a chance against Silva, but I sure do love Chael’s finely-crafted verbal grenades.

It dosen't matter is Siva is a draw or not

He’s the best mma fighter on the planet and thats all that matters. There mere fact that Anderson Silva has about 15 minutes worth of footage clowning on some scared Ju jitsu artist proves that.

Uhhhhmmmm, Surprised no one is commenting on the clearly racist remarks here.

A sideways hat equates to being a gang member?? And I guess Rampage looks exactly like Silva because he’s black?? Those dudes couldn’t look any more different, they may as well be from different planets. Honestly, had they not put Chael Sonnen’s name on this I might have though it to be a Bill O’Reily or Sean Hannity quote. If you enjoyed this, I literally envy your blissful ignorance. And what’s with this Azuma guy saying finally an intelligent guy in UFC who smack talks, at what point did Chael Sonnen say anything remotely intelligent? Seriously dude, you must be a tea-bagger, I know any assortment of words is enough to impress one of them.. Damn mma websites have a lot of ignorant hicks on them..
