I always knew how good, Jake was (I actually used to be a fan), but was turned off by him in the past 5 fights…but I thought the Hendo fight was highly entertaining! As good as I thought Jake was, I always duobted his heart and toughness, until I saw him fight Hendo~
Tell you right now, El Nino will beat a ton of the UFC's top Lw's. The kid has evolved, put everything together, and what I like the most about Gilbert is,..

Shields vs GSP is a very damn interesting fight if shields can take Hendo down which may not be the hardest thing but its definitely not an easy task, he should be able to get GSP down i cant even remember the last time i saw GSP on his back.
Anyways i agree with GSP being scurrred to stand with anyone and i do mean anyone that Serra fight definitely did something to him, but GSP is never boring he always brings it the same with shields GSP has more tools to work with but solely chooses to just takedown+GnP and usually he doesnt do a ton of it kind of in burst every so often.
UFC has deeper pockets then SF which is why i think Shields will head over as well as the fact that hes been wanting to fight GSP for some time now.

No way!
GSP won’t stand with a striker. But Shields has no power. Also GSP’s takedown D is better than Hendo IMO and his submissions are also better. As much as I would like to see a grappling match between the two (I’m probably the only one) I think GSP will keep it on the feet and make short work of Shields. The only way I see Jake winning is when GSP goes in for the kill and gets caught in a sub.

the diff here is that jake can use his jits if taken down unlkie anyone gsp has beaten. GSP has beaten strikers, aLves, Hardy and wrestlers, hughes, kos, fitch. He has not beaten a jits guy not a good one. I think GSP will stand against jake and only go for takedowns at the end of the round. still got gsp by UD

I sick of people kncoking GSP and his stand up skills. This dude can strike with anyone! He just chooses to wrestle cause he his on a different level than everybody else. If he cant take down shields which I highly doubt he will get out struck by shields. Shields does not do anything better than GSP. BUT the last time I said that was about Edgar comparing him to BJ, so what do I know. And ill give a response to the people who r gonna respond Matt Serra knocked him down/kind of out and made him tap to strikes. Yes but serra has power in that right hand, ask hughes who he almost took out, ask twinkle toes. No shame in getting caught by Serra’s right hand. The tapping part was GSP being immature and not ready to take his spot as the sports P4p best. I beiliieve GSP now has the mental game to go along with the physical. Lastly, Stikeforce thats what u get for promoting only Hendo all friggin month during the tourney and ignoring the fact that shields was your champion. Let me re word that dominate champion from another organization. If he does go down as crappy in opinions he will make SF look that much worse and the UFC that much better. And if does well even if he doesn’t win a belt the uFC has another top MMA fighter. Unless they specifically avoided filming Shields they will have footage of him, it all depends on how they edited it. There’s nothing stopping them doing a quick feature on Shields with what footage they have either.

and suddenly he’s up there with one of the top fighters in the world? I don’t think so.
What exactly about Shields’ performance indicates to you that he’s going to be a big threat on the ground against the guy who dominated fighters like Penn, Hughes and Koscheck?
He’ll get picked apart standing, or smothered with ground and pound.
Also, the idea that Shields might be too big and strong for GSP is pretty laughable… What weight does Thiago Alves walk around at, again? Anyone? Bueller?

Popular opinion had Hendo kicking his ass but obviously that didnt happen. I would not use the aging Hendo excuse for his win. I like Jake so wont trash him other than his brutal strikes, he might be the worst striker in the game, so to beat a guy like Hendo wothout being able to punch and kick is pretty impressive!
I will agree with the GSP comment though, George will tear this guy up whether its standing or on the ground.

Anyway, I don’t see any way that Jake beats GSP. GSP is way too well rounded, both standing and on the ground to be threatened by Jake. GSP has taken on MUCH bigger opponents than himself…some of which are brutal strikers (Alves) and still came out on top. Anyone saying that GSP can’t take a punch is just knocking Serra….that dude packs dynamite in his hands.

Jake hits like a woman. If henderson landed half the strikes that jake did he would have made his grandkids retarded. I think henderson thought he could out wrestle and didn’t have a good strategy and jake is very good and controlling the top position. Lets see him fight someone like Silva or Mia.

Yes his punches were weak but doesn’t take away from what he’s great at and thats grappling. Do you guys know Paul Daley the man that is fight KOS and many beleive between those two or next in line for a title shot. That Shiels man handled on of the WW best strikers into submission? Like I said you guys might feel the style is boring but non the less it is effective and personally I love watching a superior wrestler dominate a fight becasue MMA is more than just striking and for fans that enjoy all phases will enjoy MMA that much more than the fan that just likes strking battles. Those fans I call Kimbo fans, and that is not an insult I enjoy striking fights too including Kimbo’s street fights but I like every phase of MMA including the so called boring “grappling”.

i didnt say anything bad about grappling at all? i’ve taken 3 traditional martial arts in my life one starting at age 6. So i understand there is more than just striking lol. Jake has trouble finishing people is all im saying. Semtex will get owned on the ground hes not known for his ground game if you didnt know. But Kos is so i think jake would have a hard time with people like kos, gsp, finch, and any bjj guy like mia.
Well Sam he would have a hard time most likely but at the same time
minus GSP he has a great chance at beating those other guys you mentioned, Fitch being the highest ranked of KOS and himself got beat in a grappling/submission match five years ago. I’m not making shit up whenn I say he could be the best grappler in MMA, even GSp said most likely in a wrestling match Shields would win but in a MMA fight he thinks he would win. But all the guys you mention have great endurance and all of them have much better striking power and damage that could make you right but against a great grappler like Shields there is no guarantee.

That was pretty naive comment Conan. Just because you hear a hand full of fighters not happy doesn’t mean they are all not at least in the UFC there is almost a certain guarantee that the organization will still be around two years down the road.
