Mo is awesome...

I totally became a fan after this fight. It`s too bad there is no competition for him Strikeforce… I guess Jacare would be a good fight, but Mousasi already beat him in Dream, so really its a lose-lose fight for Mo…

What was it that made you like him?

I’m just curious because, I did like him and I now dislike him after this fight

His heart, punching power and a win over someone I rated really highly...

Shit I am guilty of saying Mousasi would be competitive with Anderson Silva before that fight… How wrong I was. Also I perceived his antics before the fight as just talk, but now that he is backing it up I can’t help but be a fan.

Consider me on the wagon, I just hope the wagon rides into competition country soon. Don’t want him fighting cans after Mousasi.

I can understand that

I liked his wins previous, he had a lot of dominating spectacular win.

He just couldnt seem to damage Gegard and had a miserable gas tank so he just ground it out.

I mean it’s Gegards fault for not trying to get up and do some work.

Yeah it’ll be nice to see SF bring some guys in for him, I’m guessing maybe Renato Sobral?

i saw a completely different fight Shaiz

This gas tank thing I’ve heard about sounds like a non UFC thing. Cause I guarantee if we replaced Mousassi with Machida, and King Lawal with Shogun, but the fight went the EXACT same, all we’d hear about is how fantastic Shoguns ground work etc was. This was Lawals CHAMPIONSHIP fight after 6 appearances for fuck sakes lol. He won it 4 rounds to 1 against a worthy opponent, and I guess he was supposed to not break a sweat.

Lol, you were a fan and that discouraged you? Like stand up brawls a bit too much perhaps? Well unfortunately the real fighters have to incorporate gameplans and technique sometimes to assure they win*

*please see; GSP, Andy, Machida and now Penns loss due to lack of gameplan/not being his usual self.

Heh re:shogun

Not from me you wouldn’t I’m not a Shogun not hugger, I got sick of people ‘mewling in disbelief of that ’robbery’ after about 3 minutes.

Anyway, I was impressed with King Mo’s ability to take him down seemingly at will and keep him there, and his ability to keep going when he looked exhausted after the second round.
But he never really tried to finish, he got stood up several times as he was just sort of resting on his legs. Though that was interesting he held Gegards calves a lot of the time and sort of leaned his shoulders into them, it was a pretty controlling position and I’d never seen many wrestlers make use of it.

Don’t pull the ground game thing on me, I prefer a good exotic sub to a KO, but he just didn’t show the ‘killer instinct’ that I liked from him previously.

It’s like if Wanderlie went out and started trying to win decisions by backing up and working the jab. That’s fine, but Wanderlie built his fan base on his killer instinct and fight ending abilities.

Anyway, I can’t imagine his next fight will be as hard, I imagine it will be a chance for him to showcase.

lmao "mo is awesome?"

I’m not gonna start buying into the hhype too soon (I did that for Moussassi). It was definitely a quality win.

side note, I’m really digging the thursday fights from Bellator, not only entertaining, but breaks up the week, EVERY week, and it’s free.
for those in Boston/Massachusetts area, may 6 at Wang is a great card!

It was a good win, but there was nothing impressive about it.

He reminded me of Sean Sherk before he decided to become a “striker”. I had flashes of Sherk v Florian / Franca. He is definately a powerful wrestler, that is basically what won him the fight. Although his cardio wasn’t brilliant, it was better than I thought it would be. I did expect a lot more from Mousasi though. I do not do MMA myself , but it definately looked to me like he could have gone for a lot more submissions than what he did. I do not like Mo’s cocky attitude, so I doubt I will ever be a fan, but I have no problem giving credit where it is due. I look forward to seeing him improve.

From wiki I get this:

From 2007-2008, Lawal was the #1 ranked wrestler in the country in the -96kg division and was considered by many to be the best amateur wrestler in the United States, regardless of weight class.

Once again, A heavy favorite to win gold at the 2008 Olympic Trials and BIG hope by many experts in the wrestling world, to win a medal at the Beijing Olympics, Lawal was upset by Andy Hrovat in the finals of the 2008 Olympic Trials in the final seven seconds of a third and deciding match.

He is extremely good

Mayvbe not the most decorated wrestler so to speak, Dan went to the Olympics and I think Sonnen did or was a back up. But he is very good. johny Hendricks comes to mind as well. He never went to the Olympics, but never attempted to. Henderson was a greco olympian, in Greco you don’t shoot, it is mostly upper body moves, throws, tosses etc.

by James S. on Apr 22, 2010 11:51 PM EDT up reply actions

found this on wiki about matt lindland:

Lindland started wrestling at age 15. He wrestled at the University of Nebraska winning the Big Eight title at 158 in 1993 and becoming an All-American. He represented the United States in Greco-Roman Wrestling at the 2000 Summer Olympics in the 69–76 kg weight category, winning the silver medal.

winning a silver medal at the olympics is pretty much the best qualification any wrestler could possibly have…unless its gold…so wouldnt that mean lindland is the most decorated wrestler in mma?

Nope

There’s High school nationals, college nationals, and the olympics, that is basically it. There are different styles though. collegiate, Greco, and Freestyle. olympics is basically the top of the mountain.

by James S. on Apr 23, 2010 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions

Actually Worlds exists. FILA holds them. Joe

Mo never won any actual titles during his campaign AND actually rose from obscurity but he was regarded as the best wrestler in the US period. He was suppose to go to the olympics and win gold until literally the last ten seconsd of his match with rovat. So yes are there moroe accomplished wrestlers aka olympians like askren and such in MMA – yes, are they considered to be better/higher caliber wrestlers than Mo – No. So i can agree with kenny’s sentiment.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Apr 23, 2010 2:01 AM EDT up reply actions

I had no idea about FILA

Do you know if those are done anually and what the general caliber of wrestler shows up?is it open to anyone? Interesting.

by James S. on Apr 23, 2010 10:18 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

It's a pretty high level caliber. They are done annually and it's an international event so it goes around.

You have to make the world team to compete and that’s not an easy task. If you listen to any high level wrestler interviews, they always point out what kind of a big leap it is from college to that in terms of skill. It also gives you a very good idea about the distribution of truely world class wrestling around the world – japan, middle east and eastern europe. For example the next best wrestler in MMA, Joe Warren won Worlds in Greco and like Mo was suppose to win Gold at the olympics but the whole marijuana thing kinda blew his shot.

Do you make efforts to not learn? I thought you were all just ignoring the facts. King Lawal has THE BEST wrestling credentials in MMA. PERIOD. And the way he looked Sat only proves he is right up there with GSP and Shields when it comes to taking the fight exactly where he wants with takedowns and ground work.

The quicker you guys accept this the quicker you can stop bitching when he doesn’t finish guys as much anymore. His bread and butter just happens to be a lot better than major majority of most.

STOP MAKING SHIT UP

BEST wrestling credentials in MMA. PERIOD

Matt Linland – Olympic Silver Medal
Brock Lesnar – 2 time NCAA champion
Dan Henderson – Olympian
Chael Sonnen – Olympian (alternate, I think) – 2 time national greco-roman champ
Ben Askren – 2 time NCAA Champion and Olympian

MO – 1 NAIA title and a big 12 title, missed olympics as the HEAVY favorite. Did I miss something?

Lawal is a great wrestler. He had a great career, but he does not have the credentials of the guys listed above that came off tha top of my head. Credentials and talent are two different things, worby, but coming from a self-proclaimed president, I should expect outright lies, even if I agree with your intentions. :)

He will continue to grow and I’m perhaps being a little brash because this man deserves much more then to STILL be hated on by 90% of the ppl posting.

http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showpost.php?p=2358317&postcount=12

Here’s some stills; You can clearly see the one lands flush to the head.

Also, look where Josh Rosenthal is, he’s right on top of the action, he could see exactly how those knees were landing.

Shogun lost a close decision! Everyone get crazy!

those stills show shit

I’m 100% unconvinced one way or the other!

Haha I have to agree, I don't see anything in the stills

I watched the replay multiple times though and every time it looks like there is no head contact on the second shot which was supposedly the one to hit his head. However some of my friends are telling me that they see it land, its really hard to tell.

Rich Attonito vs Kyacey Uscola

Watch the replay starting at around 2.50

Lesnar > [Carwin] ---> Lesnar > [Velasquez] ---> Lesnar > [JDS]
Overeem will NOT show up on May 15th! Mark my words. Sig stays til then.

they show no definitive landing of the knee.

Useless pics

3 SF title fight decisions is somehow "embarrassing garbage", but 3 UFC title fight decisions isn't?

The last thread shows his hands away from his face

and the knee hitting his face/head.

Read that whole thread there’s some fairly good analysis on those pics that present a pretty convincing argument.

Problem with those Tuf fights is lack of camera angles.
It would have been nice to see a few different angles from it to get a clearer picture, in that replay it sort of jumps from his knee going towards to his head and then his heard and arms fly back but it’s difficult to see if it hit his face or hands.
Pretty Stupid of Kyacey to be throwing those.

anyone can write up a pretty convincing argument

I wish I was more comp literate so I could make a good gif. Before the commercial break I was convinced that knee hit him, the view they gave I rewound 3x and from that angle swore it connected. The 2nd view after the break showed it did not hit at all. I rewatched and I still see from the second angle that it didn’t hit at all.

MY COMMENT WAS REMOVED!

Can’t believe it…

Not censoring people is what makes mmamania great, but I guess we can say byebye to that?
