UFC on Versus 2: John Howard vs Jake Ellenberger scheduled for Aug. 1
Streaking welterweight up-and-comer John Howard (14-4) has been tapped to take on fellow 170-pound prospect Jake Ellenberger (22-5) at the upcoming UFC on Versus 2 event tentatively scheduled for the Energy Solutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Our amigos over at MMA Die Hards reported the pending match-up late last night.
Howard has quietly assembled an impressive seven-fight winning streak including a 4-0 run inside the Octagon. While he's yet to get that much-anticipated contest with nemesis Anthony Johnson, it hasn't stopped him from taking out his frustrations inside the cage.
"Doomsday" looked like a super man against Daniel Roberts at UFC on Versus 1, knocking the promotion newcomer senseless in just over two minutes. That performance came on the heels of his beatdown of Dennis Hallman at last December's Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 Finale.
Facing him will be Ellenberger, who got back to his winning ways by stopping Mike Pyle (TKO) back in January at the UFC 108: "Evans vs. Silva" pay-per-view event.
That win helped take some of the sting off a razor thin split decision loss to Carlos Condit at UFC Fight Night 19 back in September 2009. While known for his wrestling, Ellenberger also has some very heavy hands, as evidenced by his highlight-reel knockout of Marcelo Alfaya at Bellator 11 last June.
UFC on Versus 2 is expected to be officially announced by the UFC in the coming days. Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more updates on this pending fight card as they develop.

Jake's got this one.
Better wrestler, carries big power too but for some reason John’s fighting style really appeals to judges. I don’t think he should have won a single fight int he UFC aside from the Chris wilson one. The Dennis hallman one was fucking ridiculous standup taht ended in a hail mary KO – a fight he was clearly being tooled in. I imagine Jake will do that to him except he can take as well as dish out big power so he probly won’t get put away.

cool.
I hope he gets put away… but I have to admit he’s tougher than I give him any credit for.
His last fight vs Roberts was a huuuuge surprise. Too many im sure.

I am a big time Jake Ellenberger supporter!!!!!!!!! I think he takes this one on sheer size. I think he will be stronger than Howard, and he has the better standup
But MAN OH MAN, Doomsday’s most recent KO of that dude with that wicked left while the dude was on his back was SICK!!!!!!!!!!!

I like both of these guys
but I have to root for the Nebraska boy. A KO for either guy wouldn’t shock me.
