shinya aokis jiu jitsu is beast… but only people who buy into hype was calling him a #1 lightweight coming into this fight.. i mean a three fight winstreak, and 4 of his last six is good.. but not #1.. ill bet theres about 10 lightweights in the ufc with wrestling who could make shinya look that bad… i mean striking wrestling jiu jitsu you are 1 for 3…
gilberts sick too but i wouldnt say #1 i still got bj, kenflo etc higher than him
gilberts head is a little big for having a win over one ranked guy i think someones going to take him back down to earth with that attitude

I don’t think Gilbert is anything special. If he was as good as he thinks he would have finished the fight or seriously justed him up. His ground and pound is at least better than Shields but I think Edgar or Florian would easily beat him. Hell Even Roger Huerta or Eddie Alvarez would probably give him a run for his money.

Last night was proof! Strikeforce and DREAM have to share fighters to put up challengers and they still looked like crap. I actually don’t blame Gilbert for his fight being so boring because he was trying to engage, but his BS with Shields and Diaz makes him a classless piece of crap. The Diaz brothers were some of my favorites, I enjoyed the trash talk and finger flipping…. but not coming to blows. That whole camp all did something to hurt our sport and should be losing their licenses much less being talked about as #1. And I don’t care about that arguement that Miller was disrespectful, THAT’S BULL! Rampage didn’t hit Rashad after his Jardine win (or in tons of faceoffs), Carwin’s camp didn’t just Jump Lesnar (who was actually being disrespectful) and I could go on but you all have the point. These are suppose to be professional fighters, not a fucking gang of thugs.
People talk shit on Dana White for this and that and I’m sure half of them have a point, but universally EVERYONE knows that Dana White would be cutting contracts for anyone that pulled this BS. There is absolutely NO WAY ANY UFC fighter would get away with that. If this didn’t make the UFC look so good I would hope he would cut Nate Diaz for his part in it.
The one place I disagree Cushing, I want Shields in the UFC. You said yourself, it’s where the best fighters in the world are. He might not be the most exciting, but he wins. Definately deserves his due credit. Not just with the Hendo win, think of where Daly is in the UFC now and think back to EliteXC.

what some ppl don’t understand is that half of the SF roster r made up of guys who where n the ufc & got cut. i always found it funny how these guys could not hack it n the ufc but go 2 SF & bcome contenders & then ppl act as if they could could beat any ufc fighter. 4 example nick diaz when he was n the ufc was never a contender as he lost 2 karo, diego, & a much smaller sherk now he goes 2 SF & bcomes campion? samething goes 4 jay heiron he was terrible n the ufc & the bad thing is that when he was n the ufc the WW div was not as stack as it is now & he couldn’t do anything & he goes 2 SF & now he’s the #1 contender 4 the WW belt? it just proves that except 4 a few guys the talent n SF can not compete with most of the talent n the ufc. although their r alot of guys n SF that could kick bisping’s ass. sorry 4 the bisping shot i just couldn’t help it.HA HA HA……

I would say Melendez is at best number 7 or 8. Who in the ufc does he box better than? I would be surprised if he had better wrestling than ken flo, bj penn, maynard, Edgar, just to name a few people who I think would beat him. The funny things is if he really wants to be # 1 in the world all he has to do is go to the ufc and prove it. You also have to throw Eddie Alvarez in the mix too.
So is mma dead no in Japan? There biggest start just got beat and it wasn’t even close. I am sick of these bjj guys that have to way of taking people down and suck at boxing. It seems like we will not see a elite BJJ guy win big fights unless they really work on either there take downs or stand up.

The fight in general like Mo and Mousasis both look like crap. No one finished either. I like mousasi and Aoki but all 4 involved in the fights sucked big time.
I suppose your allowed a poor performance once in a while though…

Whether you like it or not he is now #5-#7’ish after that. No he’s not #1 but he’s proving he’s a force. And just cause you THINK he doesn’t stand a chance in the UFC doesn’t make it so. I say he’d have a great chance against any non top 3’er. Lots of guys in UFC just like that. You don’t quit just cause you aren’t #1, you look to get better. Get a clue.
Also, whatever troll said King Mo sucks, is a moron. He was a huge underdog and everyone loved and had high expectations for Mousassi. King Mo looked like GSP in there and put on an absolute clinic. He’s a fantastic fighter and champ. And he IS a force.

Dude Mo was nowhere near GSP level nor did he put on an "absolute clinic"
he got takedown after takedown yeah, i’ll give him that, but he wasn’t able to do ANYTHING with it. Thats not what I thought was a clinic. Anytime they were on the feet, he was eating punches, and the whole time on the ground, he was eating punches and upkicks. He may have “fought smart” but he was just holding him down and riding a decision because thats the only way he could have won. Im not praising Gegard’s performance or saying the decision was wrong, but it was a painful “fight” to watch.

King Lawal is a huge force to reckon with. Its funny everyone thought Mousassi was Jesus and wrote Mo off, then Mo takes it 4 rounds to 1 over Jesus and Mo still sucks to all of you. PS Mo's resume begs to differ that he has "nowhere near gsps wrestling"
GSP is the best, but Mo is right up in the top 5 for MMA ground control with Kos, Gray, Sheilds etc. Sorry you guys aren’t fans of them, hell I don’t even like Shields or Gray, but their still the best in their areas.
And yes GSP is hands down my favorite fighter, but my love for him doesn’t cloud my judgment enough to not see the talent that Mo possesses.

add Guida to that list, because thats all Mo did.
at least GSP Kos and Shields pass guard and look to inflict damage or subs. My point about Mo is all regarding his last fight. Take down and hold on to half guard or pin against the fence is NOT GSP level. Im not arguing anything about his resume or if I would like him in the UFC or any of his other 6 wins. His performance vs Mousasi left a lot to be desired.
Its funny, in Diego vs Guida, loads of guys thought it was crap that Guida won a round when Diego landed more strikes from the bottom. Gegard did the EXACT same thing, yet no one says the same thing.
I’d like to draw the comparision where Diego=Mousasi and Mo=Guida.

All non-UFC shows and fighters suck. At least until they join the UFC then they’re suddenly world class. Unfortunately after all SF shows there are going to be UFC fairweather fans whining and bashing the fighters.
Aoki was a consensus #2 before this fight so this win should launch Gil to the top of the rankings after BJs loss.
