UFC 116: Kurt Pellegrino vs George Sotiropoulos on tap for July 3
Submission possible.
Contending UFC lightweights Kurt Pellegrino and George Sotiropolous have been paired up for a 155-pound showdown at this summer's UFC 116 event, currently scheduled for July 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
MMAmania.com learned of the pending match-up earlier today.
"Batman" recently made it a dark night for Fabricio Camoes, battling the Brazilian into the second round before strangling "Morango" en route to a submission victory (rear naked choke) in front of a hometown crowd at last month's UFC 111: St. Pierre vs. Hardy" event.
The win marked Pellegrino's fourth straight.
Also making some noise in front of friends and family is streaking Aussie submission standout George Sotiropoulos. After getting bounced from The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 he's been nothing short of unstoppable, including a unanimous decision win over the venerable Joe Stevenson at UFC 110: "Nogueira vs. Velasquez" back in February.
The convincing win over "Daddy" was his sixth in a row.
UFC 116 is set to be headlined by returning heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, as he tries to quell the uprising of undefeated division contender Shane Carwin. Yoshihiro Akiyama and Wanderlei Silva will also square off in a battle of sexy vs. psycho.
Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for future updates on this still-developing fight card.

Sick, sick card shaping up
I’m looking forward to all three of these fights. George really impressed me his last few times out, especially against Joe. Should be a fun night of fights.
Hadoken!!
This should be a great fight. I like Batman due to experience, but George has shown too much to count him out. Winner has to move into serious title contention.
I'm a pan-handlin', man-handlin', post-holin', high-rollin', dust-bowlin' daddy
If Joe Stevenson couldn't win based on experience, I highly doubt Batman can
Pellegrino has been submitted by Fitcket and Diaz in the Octagon, but not by Stevenson. Shows me that a skill based jits guy can beat him, and not so much a power submission guy, like Stevenson.
Sotiropoulos by submission.
John Hathaway over Diego Sanchez
I dont think Pellegrino will be anything more than a Gatekeeper to the UFC LW top 10
Pellegrino is probably top 15 in the UFC, but will probably never be top 10. A fight I’d like to see him in would be Guida.
Question, I dont think Guida or Stevenson have fights lined up, book them against each other. Good fight there!
John Hathaway over Diego Sanchez
i hope a couple more really big fights get added to this card
They could have a record ppv if they go all out and I’m pumped for another great george s fight!

going to be some slick bjj
i am looking forward to it.
I like this fight!
I’ve got to root for Kurt because he’s the man, but this fight scares me as a fan of his. George is great on the floor and showed really good boxing agains Joe. Heart says Kurt brain says George. Pelligrino is geat at BJJ, but showed some lack of focus in the Diaz fight. He beat Alberto Crane, who is a world champion in BJJ, but Crane never really showed anything in the UFC. I wonder if we’ll se the Sotiropolous pants again.

Nice matchup
I love this guy George, he is a badass. Stand-up has been looking crisp and he’s a beast on the ground. I think he’s a legit contender and he subs Batman in rd. 2.

George: Thanks for the Memory
Sitting in Acer Arena in Sydney earlier this year during the George v Daddy fight was the most amazing live sporting event experience I have had. The crowd was going absolutely c r a z y . You can here it in the background on the video. The best thing was it was a real technical MMA battle and the crowd responded, loved it. Sorry just had to share that :-)
Great match up. I love Batman and the way he goes about his business. I see this one going to a decision again – UD to GS.
Easy win for George
GS on the way up, loads of potential there. Dont see Batman giving him much of a test. GS by first rd sub.

Whoever wins this fight, puts themself in title contention.
Should be a great fight.
I am so pumped for this fight. I love both of these guys but I got to give it to George. Kurt and Stevenson have similar ground skills, both being wrestling based submission fighters. George handled Stevenson with ease. Kurt will get the takedowns that Stevenson couldnt but I pick George via textbook 10th Planet JJ sweep to arm bar. When George gets on top it’s done. I hope he fights a top five guy after a win here. I’d like to see him fight Griffin, Miller or loser of Florian vs Maynard.
I truly believe he is the only lightweight that can hang with BJ on the ground. His guard work is amazing and his guard passes are top notch.
akiyama should be really happy – second time on the strongly marketed brock lesnar card…
Watch all 35 fights of Fedor Emelianenko
Pelligrino will win
Kurt’s BJJ is very strong and I really don’t see GS submitting him. Kurt’s experience in the octagon will lead him to the unanimous decision although I wouldn’t be suprised to see Kurt submit GS. If Kurt can win this fight then he would be in line to face Frankie Edgar for the belt which would be awesome since both fighters are from the Jersey Shore. New Jersey has really been putting out some good UFC fighters. Let’s go Kurt!!!!
