"I thought it was disrespectful. He started to call me bad names during the fight. Stuff like, ‘you're a f**king playboy, come and show me your jiu-jitsu,' things like that. It was unnecessary. Besides, it was a normal fight. He asked for excuses and I think everybody makes mistakes. I think he was influenced after that and came back and said I had disrespected him. I never said anything too serious, and whether I had said it or not, it would be to promote the fight. That is normal."
Coming off a bizarre defeat at the hands of Anderson Silva at UFC 112, Demian Maia spoke to Graciemag about what really went down inside the Octagon last weekend in Abu Dhabi. Various reports have surfaced regarding what Silva had to say during the fight, none of which were exactly flattering. What do we make of this? Does hearing what Anderson really was saying that night infuriate you even more, or could you not care any less? Is there any room in the sport for this kind of behavior? Preach on, Maniacs.

hes not even the best grappler in the ufc, his take downs suck, and his striking is very poor,

Is the best middleweight grappler in the world besides Jacare, has only lost twice (to Marquardt and Silva, both elite) and has tons of heart.
He earned his shot. Siddown and shut up.

dont talk complete shite – vitor had it – got injured then sonnen who beat nate should have got it but couldnt due to injuries from nate fight so they give it to a guy who got KOd in seconds by the guy who got a whipping from Chael and who just came of a decision over miller where he couldnt finish him on the ground…yea im suprised he didnt get his shot earlier

Just because Silva is is another class, that doesn’t give him the right to be so disrespectful. If anything, he should have given respect to Maia just for stepping up to fight.
This attitude of “you’re not in my league, so I’m free to mock you during the fight” is totally disgusting. Those of you who agree with it are douches of the highest order.

His takedowns do not suck. His striking is on par with other BJJ specialists turned MMA fighters. He is top 5 grapplers in the UFC. I think your a bit off

They are very good because he works from clinches mostly with trips.
He doesn’t have that explosiveness but he is very technical especially his single legs. Hell this is a man who easily took down Gonzaga in a grappling match.

I agree with Greg Jackson. I thought the 1st 2 rounds were really entertaining. “You are watching a real life Bruce Lee” – Joe Rogan was coming out with all kinds of shit and it was great to watch. I think he gassed a bit at the end of the fight though and thats why he did not do s**t.

Don't blame Maia
He’s just telling it as it is. I don’t really think Maia’s complaining at all. Silva didn’t gas either. He simply didn’t care. His way of screwing over the fans basically. Maia at least went for broke during the fight unlike Leites. Watch the 5th round for this especially. Silva simply has no respect and it’s getting boring at this point. He’s had three equally boring MW title defenses (Cote, Leites and Maia). Maia will bounce back and has won some fans in the process. Silva? He just lost his last few remaining fans until he finishes a few fights at MW instead of dancing around for a decision.
Regardless of who said whatever,
Silva was obviously the better fighter, and was being a douche about it. I didn’t want to pay $45 to watch Anderson dance around like an asshole. It was disrespectful to both Maia and the audience. Seriously, Maia didn’t say anything that seriously disrespectful. From what I’ve learned about Silva, he is immature and wanted to make an excuse for his childish behavior. Great fighter, immature attitude.
