It's not about worthy or unworthy opponents...
Anderson is a professional and may choose to fight however he wants…but MMA is definitely a sport and like other sports if you do not perform well you go to the bench. Dana has proven to be a good business man and knows that the kind of show that we got from Anderson on Saturday is what caused so many problems for boxing. There are a lot of great boxers today, but they fight not to lose and then we get those boring decisions like Mayweather v. De La Hoya, similar to the way Anderson has been fighting as of late… at least against BJJ fighters.

I don't see how people can blame this one on Maia
The guy tried to go out on his shield; he went for a couple flurry’s and Silva didn’t have an answer for them. He was diving for TD’s left and right and getting stuffed; the guy had way more heart than Leites. Honestly I don’t think Silva was fucking off, I really believe Silva didn’t finish Maia because he couldn’t. Maybe he really was tired, maybe he got hit a little harder by Maia than he expected and was gun shy afterward, but for w/e reason, all Anderson offense stopped dead in it’s tracks after Rd. 3. Maia’s left eye is swollen shut, he can’t get a TD, he’s bloodied and battered, it doesn’t make sense that Silva didn’t finish unless he really couldn’t for some reason.

I am sure that if they were aggresive non jits fighters
that he had to fight against, then it would blow your theory away. His more destructive performances were against more aggresive opponents who tried to take the fight to him and unfortunately for Leban, Franklin and Forrest, tried to strike with him. Chael is an extremely agrresive fighter, and Silva will have no choice but to be aggresive and take no chances against him, its got nothing to do with him being a non Brazilian. Lutter was a joke, and I actually did not see anything wrong with the Cote fight, I admit he was taking his time, but against a guy who can knock you out with one punch, rushing things can get you KTFO.
So Maia should ignore his huge jits advantage

he caught Sonnen off guard. Sonnen is still the better wrestler. Also, saying maia is the best grappler in MMA is nonsense. Jacare is like Maia except WAY more athletic with explosive takedowns. Jacare woulda been a much better matchup for Silva than Maia because Silva wouldn’t be able to just shruge him off.

I think you couldn’t be more wrong. Who cares if he’s the “undefeated champ of the UFC”? When it comes to name recognition, he’s barely anybody. This isn’t helped by the fact that he doesn’t speak english — something that probably a lot of casual fans take notice.

Dana wouldn't have the balls
to cut Anderson. Too many people would be left asking “what if” further down the line. What he really needs to do is put him against a top 3 LHW like Shogun or Rashad too see what’s going down.
Not surprising
The threat just might be enough to light a fire under Silva. Silva had multiple opportunities to finish Maia and instead just chose to play around. He did the same with Leites and Cote. If nothing else, Dana can simply sit on Silva’s contract until it’s about to expire and then re-sign him as per the champion’s clause. Just the threat could be enough to get Anderson willing to finish a fight at MW.
Anyways, I have no complaints with Maia. He at least went for broke during the 5th so no reason to mention cutting the guy. Also, Sonnen kinda did earn his shot sadly. Beating Marquardt (originally #2 in line) put him in line for the shot. Will he win? Probably not, but his wrestling could be a problem much like Hendo’s was for at least a round. After that, if Silva beats Sonnen, let him fight Belfort and then move up to LHW. Fights there will be alot harder especially with some of the better guys there. Shogun, Jones, Rashad, Rampage… four fights right there that should light a fire under Silva’s ass.

Yeah, I think no one really gave Maia a chance and justifiably so. I truthfully expected a KO win for Anderson within two rounds. Hell, he should’ve beaten Maia within two, but he chose to have a… what? Dance-off maybe? I really don’t know. Still, Maia kept trying so I give him credit. He earned a lot of fans that night, myself included. I’d definitely start figuring out some matches at LHW for Silva… no need to cut the guy since he’s still considered a P4P great, but Dana’s said stuff over the years simply to light a fire under some guys.
They won't cut him, but he needs to be challenged. No more one dimensional dudes.
Maia has the worst TD’s in the business. He had zero chance in this fight and that is why it bothered me that Silva was show boating. I felt sorry for poor Maia just out there trying to make the fight competitive.

The first two rounds weren’t all that exciting it’s only because the commentators were literally blowing Silva that you thought they were so amazing. He inflicted little damage. The only really damaging strike of the entire fight was a flying knee Maia ducked right into.

let’s be real here for one second….I’ve come to the conclusion that an aggressive fighter against silva get’s knocked out the 1st or 2nd round (hence leben, hendo, franklin, griffith, irvin, etc). a non aggressive fighter such as a one dimensional fighter like maia results in a boring fight that leaves the fans upset. it’s obvious that the spider no longer belongs in the 185 division…he’s cleaned out the division and for goodness sake he has the longest winning streak in ufc history. so clearly he needs to move up to lh and fight someone like a rampage, rua, rashad, or jon bones. and then when he cleans out that division move up to heavyweight and do the same.
and what’s this talk that he was tired and fatigued in the later rounds? impossible considering there wasn’t much activity in the first 2 rounds. sure anderson won the earlier rounds but in all honesty he didn’t exert a large amount energy during those rounds.
and let’s not put 100 percent blame on anderson for a boring embarrassing fight. due to past history with one dimensional bjj fighters dana and joe silva should have been aware and smart enough to know that facing the spider against yet another bjj fighter history would repeat itself.
there’s no doubt in my mind that anderson will redeems himself by destroying sonnen we will all be back on his ball sack like we were after the spider demolished forest.

Im not sure if letting AS go would even affect anything,
everytime he fights its the same thing. Some sort of circus like antics, the next day everyone complains, he says sorry to the fans and then 8 months later he does it again.
