A more humble Mir imagine that

He didn’t metion one fight that I know everybody would like to see again and that is NOG who is also coming off a loss and sounds like the most logical match to me anyway? Honestly I believe what he is saying and was something I know many of us were saying about him worrying about matching up strength wise too Carwin and Brock guys that are developed from years of strength training and using their strengths. He was surprised by the KO and I’m glad to hear him say he’s glad the ref gave him a chance when many believed the fight should of been stopped earlier. My man Brock better pay attention and fear the hands of Carwin as Carwin can beat anybody in the world if he connects there is not a man I think that would be able to take his shots directly.

Mir/Nog II

Both are coming off losses, and the staph infection taints Mir’s win somewhat. It’s a somewhat even fight where both have a fair shot at winning it, and the winner answers some questions, for Nog it would show he still has at least some gas left in the tank, and for Mir it shows he deserved the win the first time and gives him a nice rebound win he can parlay for a bigger fight next time. Not sure who else he could/should get. I’d be surprised if Mir got JDS when JDS has potentially more to lose than gain in that kind of match-up. Cain’s waiting for the winner of Lesnar/Carwin. Nelson? Winner/loser of Mitrione vs. Slice? Toney? A HW Anderson Silva?

by Hardcase on Apr 12, 2010 11:55 AM EDT up reply actions

uhh Gonzaga maybe?

I think Gonzaga is a much better fight right now for him. He’s already beat Nog and Nog is on the downside of his career. He should get Gonzaga, no doubt.

by Dion03 on Apr 12, 2010 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree He should get Gonzaga

As far as styles go that would be a sick matchup

by The Legacy on Apr 12, 2010 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Same here puck.

I been wanting that rematch for a while. I think nog lost that fight due 2 a staph infection & if Mir can beat a healthy Nog I’ll eat my words =D

by d*locc on Apr 12, 2010 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm sad..

Nog 4years ago would of won. But he hasn’t looked good since he’s been in the UFC, even in his winning efforts(besides Couture).

Nog is like the Toyotoa Hilux from Top Gear.. It’s taken a massive beating and is still ticking, but in no way does it resemble its old self.

by RayRayJr on Apr 12, 2010 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I Don't know about losing that mass

I think Mir actually looked good in the Carwin fight; i think he looked fast and powerful with his strikes, I also think he was strong enough to defend the takedown because he bulked up.

Of course he got tagged and with Carwin’s power and that’s enough to end the fight, but I don’t think the muscle mass is to blame and I certainly don’t think losing the mass will help his chances at all.

I guess what I’m saying is, he can still be fast and slick and use his skill set, while being a bigger, stronger Frank Mir…It worked on Kongo, it didn’t work on Carwin…that doesn’t mean he should throw the plan out the window.

he looked fast and powerful? How could you tell from the 3 or 4 strikes Shane actually let him throw?

Humble Frank is WAAAAAYYY better than the old Frank. Give him Nog or Gonzaga and go from there.

The funniest partof this interview

was you would think until the end of describing the Carwin fight that he won it. Like the way he talked he makes it seem like it would have been so easy to steal the round, make Carwin desperate, then KO him.

Hard work never killed anybody, but why take a chance?

by frosnt1 on Apr 11, 2010 4:56 PM EDT reply actions

Exactly

And that’s Mir in a nut shell for ya. The guy is a complete joke. I don’t believe anything that comes out of that big mouth. He forgot about Carwin’s punching power? Yeah fucking right….after what Brock did to his face? And he was saying Carwin hit harder….no way in hell that wasn’t in the back of his head the entire fight. It’s a shame, he used to be my favorite fighter until he did TUF. That’s when I really got to see, and hear, what kind of person he is.

by jaysav on Apr 11, 2010 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions

HERE'S WHAT WENT WRONG IN THAT FIGHT FRANK:

you got hit. lol he did nothing in that fight, can he really excuse that loss as if his strategy was off? he just got beat up, plain and simple.

CLUE IN

He didn’t describe it as he won but detailed the positives and what he needs to focus on and what he doesn’t. It’s sad to read the ridiculous criticisms from some people here that have no concept of what it to train and prepare and re-evaluate.

I respect his comments and his perspective and hope he can still be relevant in the HW division. He is a great fighter.

just like I was saying, mir was thinking-waiting to do something tricky when he was up against the cage……..you need a killer instinct

by careless on Apr 11, 2010 10:12 PM EDT reply actions

mir was against the cage for 90 seconds. his mind sure works slowly.

must be all those blows from lesnar and now carwin. next fighter should do the same thing. i say give him roy nelson and nelson could use his stomach to hold him against the cage and then knock him out. i think if he lost to nelson his psyche would break.

by Puck Head on Apr 11, 2010 11:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I'd be pulling for Roy

But that really should earn him a title shot IMO. Kimbo, Schaub, Struve, Mir. Ya a couple of those are questionable but if he beats Mir (who was fighting for #1 contender) in commanding first round fashion, then that’s 4 completely one sided wins in a row. I don’t see it fair to make him fight JDS or Cain or really anyone other then the Champ at that time. I mean Carwins got the shot for besting Mir and Gabe. I think its fair.

At least Gonzo was a previous title challenger when Carwin KO him. A win over Mir and then a No 1 contnder match vs JDS Cain Nog or whoever else is up there when that scenario rolls around..

Pat Barry anyone?

ya i can see that

…but he tried something new, and I give him props for the extremities he went to, to try and develop an extra edge or even the playing field. It didn’t work, now he’s got a seemingly impossible road ahead of him, but time will tell if his brain and heart and body are up to the task.

It's very possible Carwin and Brock are just Mir's weakness and most likely Cain is as well

And Mir believed it was the size that made the difference and I know many of us on here understood Mir getting bigger wouldn’t help, brock and Carwin are freakish athletes that will most likely not have any trouble in the grapple against anyone besides themselves and possibly Cain. Mir in the clinch is in trouble and his best bet is to get quicker llke he states and avoid the grapple to have his best chance I believe.

Im not blinded by hate at all.

He says alot of stupid shit. How do you misconstrued his statement about wanting Brock to die in the Cage???

by HEELHOOK on Apr 12, 2010 11:13 AM EDT reply actions

so? i still see nothing wrong with that

Him and brock beaked lots. I’d say much worse if you asked me about a fighter at the wrong part of the day. I’d tell you I was gonna smash his head in and eat his brains for his family to watch. Daniel “The Cannibal” Worby. I don’t give a flying fuck its head games. After the fight (when I don’t eat his brains) win or lose, I shake his hand, give him a hug and offer a beer after.

No one gave a sh*t when countless other fighters (including Penn) wished death upon their enemies. But Mir is different cause it was aimed at the Golden Boy. And for the record Penn didn’t JUST say “I’m going to the death Georges”. He said he’d die in the cage. Willing to die for his cause. Are you willing to die in the cage Georges? Etc.

Who cares? If it were the other way around ppl would be on here singing the praises of how hilarious Brock is for saying he hopes Mir dies, and laughing and playing that they “hope so”.

I was offended with all the garbage that BJ spewed before the GSP fight.

I was also offended by the way Brock acted after he smashed Mir into the mat. That said there is a huge differance between telling someone that you will fight to the death (meaning they could die to) and someone saying that they hope you die in the cage due cage related injuries. Saying you hope someone dies is inexcusible I dont care what the story is, bad karma is on the way. Mir always has something really stupid to say regardless of how smart everyone thinks he is, I honestly think that Frank is a mental case and control himself. I do however like watching him fight and am a partial fan of his I just feel as though I need to defend my post.

He's on the back of the bus alright..........

but doesn’t he know it’s the short bus?

Oh, yes, Meg, yes-yes yes, everything was going swimmingly for you until this. Yes, yes, THIS is the thing that will ruin your reputation, not your years of grotesque appearance, or your awkward social graces, or that Felix Ungerish way you clear your sinuses, no no no, it's THIS. Do you hear yourself talk? I might kill you tonight.

by Dragon101 on Apr 12, 2010 11:27 AM EDT reply actions

He'll be a better fighter after this. Like him or not.

He’s absolutely correct about trying to out-wrestle a fighter that has done it for most of their life. I’ve been a wrestler my whole life as well(humbly and not at an amazing level as these fighters) and the idea of someone with little or no experience physically out-matching me IS ridiculous. So I think Frank is finally getting it. Stick to what your good at. Can’t wait for Lesnar/Carwin. Someone is going to get destroyed…Either is capable of dishing it out. Carwin by quick ko or Lesnar will outgrapple him as he should and end it by GnP.

by Helgy on Apr 12, 2010 11:42 AM EDT reply actions

Mir's biggest weakness is his chin

He’s been dropped and stopped by Lesnar, Freeman, Carwin and VERA, thta’s right, a fat, overweight blown-up lightweight ko’d him. And don’t say he was coming off the motorcycle accident because all the training in the world dosen’t improve your capacity/ability to take a punch to the head. He needs to work on avoiding being punched in the head to evr be at the top again.

I just didnt want 2 see Brock vs. Mir III already. Mir still has a lot of gud fights at HW. Carwins been ko’ing everybody! Can’t w8 to see him fight Brock!

by d*locc on Apr 12, 2010 1:08 PM EDT reply actions

Me too d*locc

I also had the feeling before Mir wasn’t 100% focused on Carwin either and was thinking more that this fight was going to be a tune up fight for Brock as he stated he was more worried about the takedown believing that would beCarwins gameplan and something he couldn’t stop Brock at. Brock and Carwin are different fighters even though they are wrestlers their styles are different for the most part as are their weapons and I picked Carwin in winning becasue of the statements Mir made combined with his belief that adding weight would help.
