wasn't pre fight

from what I’m reading, Maia said when he was on the ground “you’re suposedly a black belt, come on down here>” the pre fight comments weren’t bad. Then Silva said “get me down or stand with me” (obviously not that nicely!

He did embarrass Maia completely in the first 2 rounds, those things he was hitting with were incredible and he took his heart away. I laughed my ass off and Maia just looked stupid when he was just standing there, then later on he should’ve finished him in the 4th or something but i guess that wasn’t in his plans.

GSP didn’t finish either and never finishes his fights, so the GSP chant from the crowd was ridiculous.

Go hard, today. Can't worry 'bout the past cause that was yesterday.

If they can't find someone who wants to go after Anderson and fight him they shouldn't have him fight.

Just the same thing with BJ, he stayed relaxed and didn’t do much except for hitting Edgar in the face everytime he came in, while Edgar tried to stay on the outside moving around which didn’t help him at all for the first 3 rounds.

All in all an extremely poor card and not a lot of excitement at any time. Going to Abu Dhabi and letting arabians invest and bringing back Renzo, marketing Kimbo Slice and just a numberous of insane decisions these last 4 or 5 cards has got me upset as hell, and hearing sick mma fans go on about how this is such a good an exciting sport is even worse, it’s terrible. Go watch the NHL/NBA playoffs or the champions league semi-finals if you want real sports that has an impact on something more than just making money on meaningless fights.

Roberto needs to go away.

He hates MMA as he posts everyweek. He just has a hardon for Dana White, always complaining about the UFC. Do I have to point out the obvious, If all the other fight promotions did the right thing then they would still be here. Its sports dumbass, its all about marketing. You talk about basketball……….WHAT A JOKE!!! BASKETBALL HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MARKETING AT ALL LOL!!!!! are you kidding me. How do you think they sell all this NBA shit??? Its called marketing and good marketing at that. In the US if you can sell a game to people that is filled with gangsters and criminals just like in the NFL then I guess youve done alright.

I also cant belive how man people listen to you, are you kdding me, your a hater. The UFC is no differant than any other sports league pr organization. Come on Rob you just want to be Dana White right??

You can just stop logging on. But don't do us any favors.

Silva running away from Maia was the only embarrassing thing in this fight. The ref having to stop the fight and warn AS about running away from the fight was also embarrassing.

GSP does finish his fights. He also doesn’t run away from guys with ZERO stand up. Quit trying to make this about GSP, AS was a little bitch and that has nothing to do with GSP.

Anderson has only finished 1 of his last 4 fights....

Cote hurt himself (even though Anderson gets the TKO win because he could not go on) and he ko’d Forrest. He went 5 rounds with Leites and Maia. GSP has only finished 1 of his lat 4 fights. So how has Anderson been more impressive? GSP has finished 10 of his 17 fights in the UFC. I also believe(as do most) GSP over his last 4 fights has fought much better competition the Anderson( I think most would agree with that).

AS finishes most of his fights, so stop using that crap.

You guys are so clueless and brainwashed it’s not even funny. Yes i totally agree AS clowned too much in this fight. The first 2 rounds were funny and he made his point. He should’ve just ended it after that though. It’s not that he couldn’t either. He broke Maia’s nose with little effort. He’s KO’ed and even submitted most of his opp’s. He also jumped up weight class twice and humiliated those guys, one was former champ.

by Merkaba on Apr 12, 2010 10:34 AM EDT up reply actions

He has not finished his most recent fights though....

Of his last 4 he has only legitly finished Forrest. Yeah in 26 six wins he has finished 20 (most of his fights) but GSP in his has finished 13 of them which most as well). I am just making a point. GSP is fighting far superior fighters than Anderson. BJ, MAtt Hughes,John Fitch, Josh Koscheck, Thiago Alves, and Dan Hardy are all top 10 guys, half which were or are top 5 when he beat them. Since coming into the UFC GSP has only fought 2 non ranked guys (Heiron-who may have been ranked at the time and Jason Miller).

Half of Anderson’s wins are against guys who were not or never have been ranked (Lutter, Thales, Irvin, Cote, Leben). The other half of his wins Forrest(?able whether he should be top 10 though you give him it cuz he was a former champ-but GSP clowned BJ who was a former ww champ and a p4p top5-) Franklin was legit, Maia-Marquardt-Henderson all legit. If half of GSP’s fights were against nobodies I am sure he would have more finishes on his record.

Till this weekend I was all over Anderson Silva’s nuts-He was one of my favorite fighters before he came to the UFC. He just showed this week that the actions during the Leites Debacle, was the real Anderson, imo. He danced with Cote, Leites, Maia. His showmanship is crap. He always hollering respect and then he acts like a total ass. Worst of all he doesn’t see it.

The only reason I watch Anderson is watch him get beat. He looked horrible the last two rounds. If he thinks tha Maia talked trash, tell him to take his tampon out

by capt doug on Apr 11, 2010 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

What the hell is he talking about?

What did Demian say? That he was going to take his arm or leg and win? What is disrespectful about that? He is a BJJ man, of course that was his game plan, to take a limb! Where is the disrespect in that? What dominance is there in running around the cage for 7 minutes without engaging? Anderson just went from my favorite fighter to an absolute joke! What did he accomplish? That he could yell, slam the canvas, punch his thigh, do jazz hands, and then run for 8 minutes? Wow Anderson, I am impressed. Even in the first 2 rounds when he was “Dominating” it was to much. I really hope he gets Chael next and gets slammed around for 5 rounds. I also am really thinkg that GSP is mos def the better fighter. The worlds best P4P can’t put away a fighter that has no business being in the cage with him. He is a shit version of Ali if that is what he is thinking he is!

From a #1 fan of Anderson Silva, to who even cares?

I am by far one of Anderson Silva’s biggest fans and supporters.. for the past few years now. That all change @ UFC112. How does what appears to be a gracious and humble champion turn into a jackass cocky mofo?? I believe this is Anderson’s true colors. This is who he is! I am extremely disappointed. He may still be the UFC champion, but he lost something inside the octagon on April 10th 2010.. he lost admiration and respect from the martial arts community. Enough.. him. In his next fight I really hope he loses, he is in deep need of a reality check. The true winner in that fight was Damien Maia..you do not need to have your hand raised, you do not need to be announced the winner, you do not need to hold the belt, in this case Damien won the fight in my eyes.. he earned my respect and admiration. He showed the true heart of our sport.. he is the hero. Anderson just has some gold.. he is no longer the champion in my eyes.

If he goes to LHW he has to be willing to fight for the belt.

This is the problem. If he fights the winner of the Evans and PAge fight and he wins that takes them out of the title picture too so all he’s doing by fighting at LHW is taking fighters out of the title picture in three round fights. Every division needs contenders and if Silva is knocking them off who will fight for the belt. The only option for Silva at LHW is the title fight no other fight makes since.

Dan definitely seemed pretty disgusted.

I think that was the most I’ve ever respected him as a ref. Even though I think he waited way too long to threaten to take a point away if Anderson wouldn’t engage, I love that he did it. If he had done it in the 4th round instead of the 5th we might have gotten a more entertaining end of the fight. I also would have been happy with him restarting the fight on the ground. If a fighter on the ground isn’t improving position, working for a submission or doing damage the fight gets stood up, why not restart on the ground if nothing is happening on the feet?

Reading His Own Press!!

So evidently Anderson gets offended easily if he takes Maia saying he’s gonna get his arm, leg, or neck as the ultimate disrespect. It seems to me that Anderson his starting to believe his own hype and is acting like he his invincible and nobody deserves to fight him. Time and again he showboats and acts like an asshole and time and again he comes out with the same bs “some fights don’t go the way the fans want” post fight sound bite. He could have finished the fight anytime he wanted but instead he acted like a classless bum. He wants to be in bigger fights give him brock, cain, carwin or fedor if Dana can get him. Better yet tell him he has to either fight Machida or fuck right off out of the UFC. He is on the biggest stage in the sport and he acts like nobody deserves to be there with him, maybe it’s him that doesn’t deserve to be there. I was an Anderson Silva fan but at this point i could give two shits about him and his phony manager.

vitor ftw

he will not back down or run around. anderson will not be toying around and if he does, a quick explosion from vitor will end the fight

by stunt on Apr 12, 2010 1:14 AM EDT up reply actions

i think he should fight sonne next. sonnen has a better chance of beating silva imho.

i like both of their chances though, because ed soares bitched about AS having to fight either of them, but said nothing about maia.

My 2 cents

I seriously think Silva wants out of his contract with the UFC. He is being a douche on purpose hoping buttwhite will kick him out, and then he go box and do anything he wants to do..

by bigmcmac on Apr 11, 2010 11:21 PM EDT reply actions

He just signed a new contract. Next conspiracy theory.

He could already leave to go box anyway.

Nothing is stopping him from retiring from MMA to pursue a boxing career, he just can’t leave the UFC to go fight with another MMA promotion.

Actually it is a non-compete contract.

He can’t go and sign up for a BJJ tourney without the UFC’s permission. They own him.

Silva is a disgrace

total garbage
Forget 185, 205 and 170. Strip him of the belt, move him to HW and throw him to the wolves

I am confused

The first 2 rounds were amazing, I thought I was watching the most dominate fighter ever at that moment.
Then i felt like I was mugged after it was all said and done. I might have to skip a few events to protest this BS.
First BJ’s robbery and then AS bullshit, I’m out , strikeforce is looking better every week.

by Dball on Apr 12, 2010 12:33 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

Silva's a bitch but Maia isn't??

I don’t understand you guys. Everyone is having a go at Silva for not engaging yet that’s exactly what Maia did for the first two rounds – yet he’s a hero?

Dana White was moaning at Silva’s team inbetween rounds for him to stop messing around (so I hear), well if I was champ and the “challenger” was not challenging me – yet the head of the organisation was getting shitty with me, not the other guy, I’d probably be pissed off too. It’s not Silva’s fault his competition isn’t up to standard.

I didn’t enjoy the last 3 rounds either, but I blame it on bad match-making, I thought it was a mistake to put Maia in there after the Leites fiasco and it turned out exactly that way. If you’re a striker yet the other guy wants to lie down every time you get near him it would piss you off – it was Maia’s job to take Silva down if he wanted him there but he couldn’t do it. Silva is under no responsibility to do what a challenger wants because he can’t stand with him – the onus is on the challenger to challenge. Mirgliotta said nothing to Maia for not engaging yet I think he landed just one strike in the first round – why the bias?

Just because Silva is the champ and we know how good he is it doesn’t mean we should jump on him when he doesn’t kill his opponent – if I got a title shot I would do everything I could to win that fight, I wouldn’t lie on my back hoping my opponent comes and puts his head in a triangle choke for me. BJJ is a pretty poor fighting style if that’s all it comes down to – if I got into a fight with Maia in the street and he led on his back like that I would stomp him in the nuts and the fight would be over.

I’m pissed off with Silva, but also with Maia and the UFC – all are to blame for that shitty card.

by Jimrod on Apr 12, 2010 1:30 AM EDT reply actions

Maia isn't "the best P4P in the world"

or black MMA Jesus…nor is he on the cover of MMA magazines, and we don’t have to listen to people touting Maia’s abilities constantly….If Silva is such a great fighter, why did he look like a bitch against a guy who barely makes top 10? No one really blames Maia for surviving, they blame Silva for allowing that to happen, and showing a genuine lack of desire to finish the fight.

by cosa7189 on Apr 12, 2010 2:45 AM EDT up reply actions

Well it takes two to tango.

When Silva faces opponents who fight back he generally puts on a good show – when he fights guys who stay defensive he doesn’t leap in and get caught – probably why he’s champ. He will stay champ as long as he faces guys who don’t want to fight regardless of his performance.

I just don’t understand these guys who get the title shot and then do nothing with it – probably scared of getting “Griffin’d”.

I often see people on here who complain about those who want KO’s all the time and say they should watch K1 as “this is MMA”. Well it strikes me that they don’t argue the same about BJJ guys or Wrestlers who can’t fight a stand-up fight, oh no, that’s “skill”. Maia and Leites should stick to their Abu Dabi grappling tournaments, Wrestlers can have their wrestling comps and Kickboxers have K1 and kickboxing. The only guys who seem to have it all are those like Fedor, comfortable wherever the fight is. Sadly there aren’t that many of those around – GSP was well on his way but now is scared to stand up despite obviously outclassing guys like Hardy or Alves when he does strike. BJ can do everything but looked like something was wrong last fight. Machida and Silva – well who knows, no-one has much success taking them down but that’s the opponents problem at the end of the day, if you can’t get a guy to fight in your world sometimes you have to go into his.

by Jimrod on Apr 12, 2010 4:38 AM EDT up reply actions

Maia was engaging the whole fight. He was trying to get it to the ground and fight HIS fight.

Also I didn’t see him turn and run away from Silva once.

This entire boring fight was all AS’s fault.

90% Silva's fault, 10% Joe Silva's

Fedor invented a language that incorporates Sambo and Kimuras.

So next time FEDOR is kicking your ass, don't be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.

by McArthur... on Apr 12, 2010 8:16 AM EDT up reply actions

LOL

60% SIlva, 40% Joe Silva.

I said this was another stupid fight from the beginning. What was Maia going to do to win this fight? His take downs are horrible, his striking is almost the worst in the division. Anderson should have knocked this dude out before he gassed from the dancing.

Stop setting up fights with one dimensional BJJ guys.

AND NEW UFC LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD FRANKIE 'THE ANSWER' EDGAR

by jay. on Apr 12, 2010 8:18 AM EDT up reply actions

No, he wasn't.

Watch the fight again – he (Maia) threw one punch (that missed) in the first round – Standing and feinting with your hands is not engaging. He tried a few crappy takedown attempts that were all instantly stuffed in the 2nd – again not throwing strikes.

One-dimensional fighters should not be in the UFC regardless, those days are gone. The matchmakers should learn to pair strikers vs strikers and grapplers vs grapplers or expect this crap excuse for a fight to be the outcome every time. At least when you get two grapplers paired you usually end up with a stand-up fight anyway (a’la Hughes vs Gracie), it’s just a shame that it’s poor quality stand-up.

If Maia wants to just do BJJ he should stick to the BJJ tourneys – at least when you pair actual fighters with Silva you get a fight – Leben, Marquardt, Henderson, Franklin etc. Henderson gave him one of his toughest tests because he actually fought – and he’s a wrestler at the end of the day – BJJ seems to consist of lying down and waiting for someone to lie on top… Just pair BJJ vs Wrestler each time and at least they’ll both be happy.

As more Bones Jones’s come through thankfully there will be less of this going on as people with more all-round game come through the ranks. It’s starting to happen – even Ross Pearson outkick-boxed the European kickboxing champ in his last match, the UFC is the ultimate goal for most fighters now so will hopefully only improve as long as they don’t keep trading on the past so much! (Hughes/Chuck/Tito/Randy are well past their sell-by dates).

by Jimrod on Apr 12, 2010 8:49 AM EDT up reply actions

I'm just glad everyone is bashing on him

I really can’t stand Silva….I hope the next time he fights it’s on an undercard….he really hasn’t earned main event status in the whole of his last 4 fights. I shudder at the thought that Silva may be a glimpse of what the UFC champions of the future will look like….a bunch of ultra talented sissy boys who are too afraid of screwing up their “pretty” to get out there and attack. It seems to happen in every sport….Watching this fight made me realize how lucky we all are to have witnessed the Chuck, Tito, Randy, Wandy…etc. Days of glory. Many others too, but you all know what I mean….the ultra brawlers, who had a better blend of ability and heart than their predecessors, but still knew their careers rested on their willingness to prove they were the best.

Blown Out Of Proportion

Overall Anderson’s antics to me were not much different then that of a younger Muhammed Ali back in his day, it was entertaining to people then and was the other day, but I do wish he would tried harder to finish the fight during the 3rd round to the 5th….but in the end these fighters are fighting for themselves, we may tune in to buy the PPV but it’s still their fight….controversy sells and always will….oh well no big deal to me, it’s dirt off my shoulder…

give it up!

comparing him to Ali is a huge kick in the nuts that Ali does not deserve

Ali was arrogant and very cocky, and talked crazy amounts of smack in the ring…but he came forward all the time!! he would yell at you, then smack you..not yell at you the dance around for a while.

Silva F***ing Rocks!

I was as frustrated as any1 but come on the UFC shud not be putting these F***ING ONE DIMENSIONAL BJJ guys in front of the best fighter in the world…WHAT THE F**K THEY THINK WAS GUNA HAPPEN!! 99.9% of fans and experts knew b4 the fight EXACTLY what was guna happen! Hate on Silva all you want but his skills are on a different palnet and if they give him sum propa competition he will stop pissing about and finish fights…bring on GSP or Vitor or any1 talking shit coz Silva will wipe the floor with them all!!

I was frustrated too. Maia is the greatest MMA fighter in the world, his skills are on a different planet and they need to put him against sum propa competiton who is willing to go to the ground.

So many contradictions

So many people on here contradict themselves it’s unreal! Here are the facts, Anderson won another title fight with ease, all be it z lackluster performance in the last 3!

Secondly iv heard so many of you talk about people taking the belt from the holder, yet Anderson is gettin shit for not chasing his opponent? Why would he? Because he can? That’s like saying barcalona are up 1-0 in the final with 2mins to go and go all out for a goal when they should defend their lead, it’s plain stupid!!

Finally all talk of arrogance and running aside, did you not see damiens face, I’d say he’s been hit once to many!

Far too much being made of this if u ask me!

If it was

It’s an analogy my friend simple as that!

If it was then it would be the most popular sport on the planet! For me one of the things holding back the sport is the fans! It embarressing sitting with my friends watching the ufc who don’t normally and u hear is booing!! Whether the fight is good or not, it’s shocking and almost every event is the same now!

Great message for other fighters so i can see why he does this he is scaring fighters before they ever get into the octagon with him. GSP isnt on his level he doesnt need to go down in weight he already has 2 weigh classes with plenty of opponents its just Dana still continues to put him in with poor fighters.

I was a fool to think Bisping had any chance against the Axe Murderer, and even more foolish to bet agaisnt the great Puck Head.

by Tonyuk on Apr 12, 2010 7:48 AM EDT reply actions

Anderson actually hid behind the referee at one point and then ran.

He is the best Middleweight and there are no challengers to him there, so he MUST go up to Light Heavyweight. Brock and Anderson are total a-holes and have no class. One of the commentators called him,“The Bruce Lee” of our generation. This was followed by a gleeful,“and we get to watch him”. Is there any wonder why this guy is an egomaniac with nuthuggers like that.

by Bullybeater on Apr 12, 2010 7:52 AM EDT reply actions

Running behind Dan...

You do realize he was doing that as a joke right? He wasn’t really “RUNNING” away from Maia…do you reallllllllllllly think that? I don’t think that.. do you ? REALLLLY?
Nobody will ever know why he didn’t finish the damn fight. But lets just put the blame where its due…bad matchmaking. Lets give ANderson someone who WAAANTS to punch his face in, then EVERYONE will get what they want…The UFC will get a great match, Whoever is fighting ( Chael, or Vitor or whoever else they dig up ) will get the opportunity they’ve been looking for, aaaand Anderson will get to work out a little bit as he wipes the floor with them.
cool?

They need to put AS in there against JDS!!

He wont be able to run a way from JR all night!!!

by HEELHOOK on Apr 12, 2010 9:18 AM EDT reply actions

HWs?

I’ve seen FAR too many “ideas” to put him in with Brock and JDS and Cain etc. Where are these ideas coming from? Yeah he said he plans on fighting at HW but, I would think that would be en route to fighting a LHW fight on the way, so first things first. And if its a reputable top 10er at LHW and he demolishes him, then we can start talking about the top 5ers in HW. Cause that’s a huge test for your first attempt at a class you’ve never been in that is 40 lbs + then that of your expertise. And yes, I’m quite aware he walks around at about 210.

I think at this point we just want to see someone KO his funky ass.

Honestly I think thats were it comes from, Dana said he would payback the fans that paid for that shit. Well throw him in there against someone he cant run away from and actually have a chance to beat him. If HW is to big then toss Lyoto at him, Machida wont get KO by him, probably be a real snoozer for the fans but still.
