Results!! MMAMANIA's Consensus MMA Rankings (LHW - LW)
First of all, this was an extremely interesting little project. I was surprised at how different everyone sees the world of MMA. That is why I love the sport so much though!
Anyway, let's get going...
LHW: Here we had 18 different fighters receive votes, 3 of which received first place votes! Below is the lost with the number is parentheses being the highest and lowest ranking. Those that received points, but fell short of the top 10 were:
Jon Jones... 48 (4 - NR)
Rich Franklin... 26 (7 - NR)
Ryan Bader... 16 (7 - NR)
Chuck Liddell... 9 (6 - NR)
Wanderlei Silva... 9 (3 - NR)
Dan Henderson... 7 (8 - NR)
King Mo Lawal... 5 (7 - NR)
Tito Ortiz... 2 (10 - NR)
Not a bad list... 5 Hall of Famers! But none are in the top 10!!
10. Randy Couture... 51 (6 - NR)
9. Forrest Griffin... 60 (3 - NR)
8. Thiago Silva... 79 (8 - NR)
7. Rogerio Noguiera... 171 (3 - 10)
6. Gegard Mousasi... 185 (2 - 9)
5. Anderson Silva... 193 (1 - NR)
4. Rampage Jackson... 199 (3 - NR)
3. Rashad Evans... 218 (3 - 8)
2. Shogun Rua... 308 (1 - 9)
1. Lyoto Machida... 334 (1 - 2)
MW: 21 fighters received points at 185, with only 2 being voted #1. In a shocker, Yoshihiro Akiyama received a first place vote. It was the only ballot holding Anderson Silva from a unanimous #1 ranking! Here are the best of the rest:
Yoshihiro Akiyama... 41 (1 - NR)
Yushin Okami... 39 (6 - NR)
Gegard Mousasi... 37 (3 - NR)
Robbie Lawler... 24 (6 - NR)
Alan Belcher... 11 (8 - NR)
Nick Diaz.... 7 (7 - NR)
Michael Bisping... 7 (10 - NR)
Mamed Khalidov... 6 (8 - NR)
Cung Le... 5 (6 - NR) That means he was on 1 ballot
Patrick Cote... 2 (10 - NR)
Mayhem Miller... 1 (10 - NR)
Now the Top 10:
10. Rich Franklin... 43 (4 - NR)
9. Jacare Souza... 60 (3 - NR)
8. Wanderlei Silva... 75 (2 - NR)
7. Jake Shields... 85 (4 - NR)
6. Demian Maia... 137 (5 - 9)
5. Nate Marquardt... 189 (3 - 9)
4. Vitor Belfort... 224 (3 - 6)
3. Chael Sonnen... 240 (2 - 10)
2. Dan Henderson... 297 (2 - 4)
1. Anderson Silva... 339 (1 - 2)
WW: A record 23 fighters received points in this division and it had the closest race as well, even though it was for 2nd. Thiago Alves and Jon Fitch were amazingly tied for 2nd after 32 ballots!! Luckily, 2 more ballots were filled out, so no ties took place. Here are the honorable mention:
Diego Sanchez... 29 (7 - NR)
Matt Hughes... 20 (7 - NR)
Martin Kampmann... 16 (9 - NR)
Mike Swick... 15 (8 - NR)
Matt Serra... 6 (9 - NR)
Mayhem Miller... 5 (6 - NR) He also was only on 1 ballot
Matt Brown... 2 (10 - NR)
Carlos Condit... 2 (10 - NR)
Marius Zaromskis... 2 (9 - NR)
Karo Parisyan... 1 (10 - NR)
Mach Sakurai... 1 (10 - NR)
Dustin Hazelett... 1 (10 - NR)
Dan Hornbuckle... 1 (10 - NR)
Top 10:
10. BJ Penn... 41 (4 - NR)
9. Jake Shields... 66 (4 - NR)
8. Paul Daley... 98 (4 - NR)
7. Dan Hardy... 125 (4 - 9)
6. Paulo Thiago... 166 (3 - 9)
5. Josh Koscheck... 189 (2 - 8)
4. Nick Diaz... 194 (2 - 9)
3. Jon Fitch... 262 (2 - 10)
2. Thiago Alves... 272 (2 - 8)
1. Georges St. Pierre... 340 (Unanimous #1)
LW: Finally the little guys. 21 155ers got points, with 2 getting voted #1. Again, just like Anderson Silva, BJ Penn was 1 ballot away from being a unanimous #1, but Shinya Aoki got 1 first place vote! Here are 11-21:
Joachim Hansen... 32 (4 - NR)
Tyson Griffin... 27 (7 - NR)
Sean Sherk... 24 (7 - NR)
Josh Thomson... 23 (8 - NR)
Takanori Gomi... 20 (4 - NR)
Ben Henderson... 15 (7 - NR)
Roger Huerta... 13 (7 - NR)
Mizuto Hirota... 6 (6 - NR)
Clay Guida... 1 (10 - NR)
Jose Aldo... 1 (10 - NR)
Donald Cerrone... 1 (10 - NR)
Top 10:
10. George Sotiropoulos... 39 ( 5 - NR)
9. Diego Sanchez... 56 (4 - NR)
8. Tatsuya Kawajiri... 86 (4 - NR)
7. Gilbert Melendez.... 108 (4 - NR)
6. Gray Maynard... 129 (3 - NR)
5. Frankie Edgar... 149 (4 - 9)
4. Eddie Alvares... 181 (2 - NR)
3. Shinya Aoki... 244 (1 - NR)
2. Kenny Florian... 266 (2 - 9)
1. BJ Penn... 329 (1 - 2) BJ was the only one unanimously in the top 8!!
I am currently working on a pound for pound list comprised of the data I already have so no new polls are necessary. I wanted to get this info out, but keep your eye out for a P4P list. In the meantime... Enjoy Maniacs!!

Awesome job mate
Shame that some prat ruined the unanimous #1 vote for BJ and Andy. That must have taken a long time and it’s good to see some sensible rankings after all that effort. Rec’d.
"Not a lot of professional sports down here (in Australia)"
"We just had our best season (of TUF) last season and it was season 10"
"Nogueira is probabaly the best HW of all time"
Dana White, proving that he's clueless about Australian sports, has never heard of Fedor and is still trying to hype up TUF 10.
not to be "that guy" but...
im just curious as to how tyson griffin made the top 10 for LWs when sotiropoulos and hansen had more votes
well i'll tell you why
because i’m an idiot… haha, oops

great job, phish!~
im still suprised that deigo sanchez isn’t in the top 10 ww by majority of maniacs here..
some other things stood out like rich franklin only being #10 mw, he should definitely be top 5 at least.. my boy jake shields is ranked 7? i don’t know about this..
lw looks pretty decent~ except hellboy should be in there..
ww looks good too, aside from bj being 10.. penn has only had 4 ww fights ever[going 1-4] how could he even be considered?
anyways, im really liking this idea phish. i hope to participate in the next one too.. i like how you do the honorable mentions and the write up.. thanks.
oh yeah, where’s the hw ranks?
i am the mighty tighty whitey and im smuggling plums!~

holy crap that is a pant load of work to do
All in all the results are pretty close to reality.
Thanks Phish
Nice work Maniacs… we are so smart S M R T
I want Ricardo Arona to sign with the UFC and his first fight should be James Toney. This is a win win scenario for MMA
Rich gets screwed in most rankings
because most of his biggest fights have been between weights and people don’t know where to rank him. Half the people list him as MW and half as LHW so he doesn’t get enough votes in either category. I suspect Diego is currently suffering the same fate. If he were still a declared LW, or already had a recent string of WW fights, I’m sure he’d do better, but his votes get divided.
thats the way it worked for me shonuff
But I think Franklin is still a great 185 option
I want Ricardo Arona to sign with the UFC and his first fight should be James Toney. This is a win win scenario for MMA
beat me to the punch
i was going to say the exact same thing…its like when two players from one team are up for an award and they steal votes from each other…the fact that hes considered in two weight classes really hurts him…i voted for him in LHW but im happy to see him make a top 10 even though it was MW
out of curiosity
how will you be calculating P4P from the existing data? I’m no statastician. Is it as simple as figuring who got the highest percentage of available points in their weight class?…or is it based on the spread of points between 1st and second…or what?
exactly
percentage of total points available… GSP will be #1 P4P with 100%

Nice work man.
Going to church doesnt make you any more Christian than standing in a garage makes you a car.
great work Phish!! Looks accurate too...
Fedor invented a language that incorporates Sambo and Kimuras.
So next time FEDOR is kicking your ass, don't be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.
Looks accurate too...
imo- for the most part, it’s decent at best.. some things stand out.. there had to have been some peeps who don’t know shit aswell as the random goofball troll participating..
if it was a concencious involving 30-40 of the regulars to this site, it would have been a little tighter with less things standing out.. i wonder how many peeps posted their ranks?
either way it’s still interesting and i like the idea.. keep it up, phish!~

FYI
every ranking that was posted was counted except the ones that were obviously BS (one guy had Jose Canseco #1 HW followed by Hong Man Choi and Bob Sapp)

although, it does scare me at how high some guys put some others
for example, Wand at No. 2, Paulo Thiago at No. 3, Forrest at No.3
My breakout fighter for this coming year: Terry Etim
Upset of the Year: John Hathaway over Diego Sanchez
well that's why you can't make a ranking completely based on opinion, you never know what the idiot on the other side is thinking.
Still pretty good rankings thanks to the relatively smart ppl on here.
forza giallorosso !!
Forrest at #3, that's my doing
Tito interviewing Babalu: "I want to tell me what you see, let's go ahead and see by the fight, what you saw, in the ring."
Tito interviewing Fedor: "Let me tell you how you feeling right now?"
just wondering, but why?
My breakout fighter for this coming year: Terry Etim
Upset of the Year: John Hathaway over Diego Sanchez
Former champ I guess but shouldn`t be rated higher than Evans.
But I can see how some can still think he`s a top five if they have A.Silva and Evans ahead of him.
