Kimbo Slice vs Matt Mitrione official for UFC 113 on May 8 in Montreal
Looks like the fantasy matchmakers who pegged Kimbo Slice as the UFC's first opponent for recently-signed pugilist James Toney will be heading back to the drawing boards.
Spike TV/CBS ratings monster Kevin Ferguson (4-1) is going to put his drawing power to the test when he makes his pay-per-view debut opposite fellow Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 contestant Matt Mitrione (1-0) on the main card of UFC 113 from the Bell Center on May 8 in Montreal.
The UFC confirmed the official match-up in a press release sent out earlier today.
Slice made his way into the UFC the only way Dana White would let him -- as a contestant on the aforementioned Spike TV reality show. Unfortunately, the former YouTube brawler was an early victim to Roy Nelson's belly-to-beard crucifix and was eliminated from the competition in episode three.
Nevertheless, he was given a second chance at UFC stardom (and an opportunity to pad the numbers for key demographics at the Dec. 5 TUF 10 Finale) when he squared off against Houston Alexander in a fight that saw "The Assassin" play ring-around-the-rosy for three rounds with Slice in pursuit.
After huffing and puffing his way to a unanimous decision win, he'll get another power puncher to slug it out with in Montreal.
Mitrione was also victorious at the TUF 10 Finale after spanking "Big Baby" Marcus Jones via second round knockout in his professional fighting debut. The win erased his exhibition loss (guillotine choke) to James McSweeney in the TUF 10 quarterfinals.
Also like Slice, the former Minnesota Viking will have to prove he's more than just a heavy hitter with a quarter tank of gas if he expects an MMA career with any kind of longevity.
Time will tell.
UFC 113 features the much-anticipated rematch between 205-pound division champion, Lyoto Machida, defending his belt against fellow Brazilian Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in the main event of the evening.
Fast-rising welterweight Paul "Semtex" Daley has also been booked opposite Josh Koscheck in a 170-pound affair that may determine the next contender for the winner of Georges St. Pierre vs. Dan Hardy on March 27.

Ohh
Not on the April card after all.
2010:
Lesnar > [Carwin > Mir] ---> Lesnar > [Velasquez] ---> Lesnar > [JDS > GG]
definitely shamo-
so should Gilbert Yvel, if they were smart they would do that. But they are just in there fighting for fun it seems.
it's not what you do in life that matters, it's about who you are.
i loved the way
he played with houston alexander like he was a little kid.
good luck doing that with a 270 pound man.
you mean ex power lifter houston alexander? and a fat 270lb man? the weight means nothing if its a fatass and a ripped muscle bound man it just means dude eats to many twinkies..
mitrione cant afford to take shots from kimbo like he does he better have his hands up and his chin tucked away…
i started off hating kimbo as much if not more than anybody on this site, but after seeing him actually fight and show his hands on the show (i never watched his fake elite xc fights except the petruzelli fight cause mexi got me to boycott elite xc)
the dude has sick hands and good boxing technique but he doesnt seem to have a granite chin and mitrione throws some bombs no way around that…
guys kimbo making 205 is going to happen but it takes time the man isnt young and in his life never cut weight so it’s not gonna be an immediate drop it’s not like hes in his early 20’s hes like 36 or some shit now

I'm curious as to why this event isn't sold-out yet..
The other events which took place in Montreal sold out within days(hours). Yet this one has PLENTY of tickets still remaining. Which is funny since this is probably the best card they have put on for the Montreal fans. I’m going to be there and hoping to see Shogun finally get his belt and hopefully Mitrione and Kimbo both get knocked out and kicked out of the UFC.. I don’t like sub-par fighters being kept in the UFC due to their popularity from TUF/Stupid backyard internet fights..etc
Yes yes yes, I know it’s a business, but credibility has to come into this at some point. They kick a Mayhem Miller/Nick Diaz(good fighter not elite, but much better then Kimbo)/Werdum out yet keep a Kimbo. The UFC shouldn’t be a place for fighters in training, or sub-par fighters.. it’s suppose to be the major leagues.
Actually
Should be a decent/sloppy fight that will end in a knockout or 2 guys getting gassed decision. I am curious to see how either of these guys fair. Also curious how the Toney thing will unfold, it should be interesting though!!!.
kimbo
kimbo can beat this guy neither one is impressive they just swing at the head no real takedowns no submissions no kicks no throws just roc n soc em robots. I give it to kimbo because at least he has some cardio
yep dana knew toney would murder him so
…they keep Mitrione there so its still 50/50. Meathead is not getting Kimbo any closer to anything should he win.
Guess Randy/Toney is still real possible.

definitely seems possible actually. Kimbo has shown that he does have at least a tiny bit of throw/wrestling ability, and submitted Ray Mercer. Does Toney have even a Kimbo-level wrestling game?
Goldie: "Michael Jordan-esque in his grappling skills is Travis Lutter."
Rogan: "No, no he's not. No."
they can teach toney the superb ground game kimbo has trust me.

what makes you think
that Toney will be any better than Mercer?
by PHISH NATION on Mar 8, 2010 11:53 PM EST up reply actions
can they teach him the KIMBOPLEX?

Goldie: "Michael Jordan-esque in his grappling skills is Travis Lutter."
Rogan: "No, no he's not. No."
American top team
is a pretty good camp look at the top guys who train there for example with a decent ground game, im sure he’ll learn a hell of a lot from those guys

by d*locc on Mar 8, 2010 9:35 PM EST via mobile reply actions
I think u r right
I mean seriously , can u even think of anyone who is available to fight on such short notice, I think maybe they wanted to have an event and realized they couldnt stack a card to compet with the strikforce card They may have a few fighters , but not enought to fill a whole card.
war kimbo!!!
if kimbo stay standing he might get K.Oed but i think he’s going in for the take down like he did with houston, an he has the power to ko matt also. if he sticks to what his corner says, an what i think will be a good game plan i think he can pull it off. imo! bye matt
YOU CANT PLEASE EVERYBODY SO YOU MIGHT AS WELL PLEASE YOU!!!!!!!
hahaha. You want Kimbo to go for a takedown against Meathead? :|
Thats the stupidest shit i have EVER read.

Maybe He Doesnt Know too Much About Mitrione.
Give the Guy a Break Damn. Dont Be Such an Asshole. Watch this is a Better Response.
Dear BigDick,
Mitrione is actually a former NFL player and his base will most likely be very strong and his wrestling credentials most likely surpass that of Kimbo’s. Kimbo’s best chance is to out box mitrione as Kimbo has shown his best skill is his hands. However beware that Mitrione seems heavy handed.
See how hard is that?

Kimbo seems a nice, entertaining guy
I don’t get the hate. He’s humble and fun to watch.
I’ve got Kimbo by virtue of the fact that he probably feels more obligated to win than Meathead.
After a minor genealogical search, I have determined that Cain Velasquez's great-grandfather was a truck.
And Mirko Cro Cop is a direct descendant of a wrecking ball. But I think you already knew that.

What did i miss on the TUF (i watched every episode) that is making people keep saying how good Mitrione is? he just looked like a fat bum like just about every other guy in the tuf house. I got Kimbo and easily. Looks like Randy v Toney then
I was a fool to think Bisping had any chance against the Axe Murderer, and even more foolish to bet agaisnt the great Puck Head.
Thank you

I'm taking Kimbo
Mitrione has decent hands but I’m counting on him gassing before Kimbo…. Meathead is an ass wipe, easy to root against.
both characters
I’ve got Mitrione. He’s got surprising hands.
surprisingly poor hands

Mitrione gassing before Kimbo
I’ve seen 70 year olds with better cardio than Kimbo. Mitriones cardio is a bit suspect, but no way is it as bad as Kimbo’s.

Kimbo please prove to us your worth it
I would love to see kimbo get better and start taking on better fighters in the future, like the Kongo,CroCop,Barry, and yes Toney. and it would be even better if he finished all of these guys, how cool would that be. then Cain,Brock,Mir,Carwin,Dos santos, woud kill the kimbo dream in the end. it would be amazing everyone wins in the end.
by bubblebeejackson on Mar 8, 2010 10:25 PM EST reply actions
I dont know if it would be in that order but.
kimbo vs. Barry……WIN KO
Kimbo vs. Crocop…..WIN TKO
Kimbo vs. Toney……WIN SUB
Kimbo vs Cain….LOSS UD
Kimbo vs. Kongo…..WIN TKO
Kimbo vs. Mir…..LOSS SUB
Kimbo vs Brock….LOSS TKO

kongo also.

i actually think kimbo loses all of them fights,
and i think cain would kill him in the 1 str round
kimbo has no business in the cage w/anyone you mentioned besides Barry.
He’d lose 6 of 7 fights listed. Probs 7 of 7.

Barry would absolutely murder Kimbo. His kickboxing is off the charts wtf are u talking about, Worby? Kimbo go knocked out in like 10s by seth petruzelli what do you think an elite kickboxer who just knocked out Hardonk would do to him? You think Kimbo would win?
BTW Barry would also beat Kongo….
Anderson Silva is p4p the greatest fighter of all time, Fedor and GSP fear the mighty Spider
Agreed. I got Barry against Cro Cop as well for that matter. These guys don’t know what the fuck they are on about.

I like yr picks except...
Can’t see Kimbo beating Kongo in standup… not in the least… Kongo by KO versus Kimbo
WTF?
Kimbo loses to EVERY SINGLE GUY on that stupid list.
kimbo vs. Barry……LOSS KO RD.1
Kimbo vs. Crocop…..LOSS KO RD.1
Kimbo vs. Toney…..LOSS KO RD.1
Kimbo vs Cain….LOSS DEATH RD.1
And in case Cain decides to spare him and leave him with just brain damage, Mir will rip his arms out and Brock with play around with his mangled carcass.

toney would knock kimbo out.
if toney trained for a couple months he would have enough skills to ko toney. all he would have to do is stuff a couple takedowns. kimbo has a glass jaw and he couldn’t hurt toney even if he could hit him.
i think mitrione will ko kimbo if he comes in shape.

Kimbo wins and get Cro Cop next. I root for that. Like the streetfighter. Humble guy and a true showman.
"Once Flamengo, Flamengo until die"
A true show-man, in the cage??
What is with all the Kimbo love as a fighter, what has he done?? I mean I like the guy but having people put him in the same league as Barry, CC, Brock, Mir, COME ON!! That is crazy talk……Even saying he would hold his own against Toney is a big stretch, Toney is an accomplished Boxer, Kimbo is a back-yard brawler, huge difference, HUGE!!! Lets be real here for christ sake.

LOL tkkpal
I call him a showman because of his hype, man. Everybody gets curious on his presentations. Remember his success at EliteXC?
"Once Flamengo, Flamengo until die"
Meh, both guys are terrible
No grappling, no cardio, no technique just a couple of strong, slow brawlers. Mitrione has more power but no heart, Kimbo has awful movement and will always be prone to leg kicks because of his arthritic knees. This will be a sloppy brawl, hopefully it will end in a KO before both men gas and the real fighters get their chance on TV and PPV.

Dana White, proving that he's clueless about Australian sports, has never heard of Fedor and is still trying to hype up TUF 10.
Matt has no heart?
Have you ever seen him fight? He has zero cardio, his heart is what keeps him going. He was supposed to lose all of his three fights but he won two of them on heart alone!! Good call though…….
This will be an entertaining fight!
I like Kimbo but will lean towards taking Matt in this fight. Mitrione is a tough guy plain and simple, not a ton of skill but just tough.
does any1 no if this is going 2 b on the maincard or the prelims.
