U wanna see a sick ass cut!

Check out Wand vs Mariano in the ivc! It was a sick ass fight 2! 10-15 minute bare knuckle brawl! Wand f’d himself up throwing headbutts & had a nastier cut then that on his eye & refused 2 stop fighting!

I agree with with PHISH NATION

Torres is still top pound for pound in MMA just in a different list, Top Cuts Pound for Pound. Not to be confused with the current #1 ranking to Calib Starnes Pound for Pound for being cut from an organization lol.

Can you imagine Mir????

He is probably crying in disbelief. That is the real reason he couldnt be there as color commentator. Mir doestn need to train, he is so good, he doestn need to train anymore. He just couldnt be there in case Torres did lose. I dont think Frank would of been able to hold back his emotions. He may of wished death upon Benavidez. Frank may of ran into the cage and killed him by snapping his neck

THIS IS WHAT IS HOLDING THE SPORT BACK

elbows have no business being allowed in mma. everyone who Ive ever listened to feels the same way I do (mcarthy, roegan, rutten)

90 % of cuts are caused by elbows who the hell wants to see someone get cut or a fight stopped because of it. NO ONE

if that was the case the fighters would wear brass knuckels. Eventually santioning people are ganna pull there head out of thier ass and adopt the japan rules which are the very best and safest for the fighters and most entertaining for the fans

Im tired of seeing fights get stopped or get affected from the result of an elbo strike causing a cut.

an elbow almost ended coutures career and serves no other point in a fight except to cut although I was loving sonnen smash marquart with them and thats exactly what cut sonnen from the bottom a weak innocent elbow that opened up his forhead.

The day MMA takes over as the priemire fighting sport is only when they take elbows out and allow knees, kicks and stomps this will cause two things to happen alot less cuts and alot less decisions.

by dia mette on Mar 7, 2010 9:00 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

hmmmm..

You want to take out elbows but allow knees and stomps?? I think that’s foolish. Soccer kicks and stomps are what allows people like Bob Sapp to win fights. At least throwing elbows takes skill and technique. For the most part I have to disagree with u on this

by drudog1715 on Mar 7, 2010 9:08 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

im sorry but,

when it comes to fighter safety, how can you say that stomps to the head of a grounded opponent are safer than throwing elbows from guard? i agree that elbows shouldnt be allowed, strictly for the fact that all they do is cause cuts which stop fights and can potentially be carreer-ending scars. but stomping on the head of a downed opponent is not by any means safer than throwing an elbow. and im not sure which elbow your reffering to when you say couture ended by one (maybe the cut on his eyelid from vitor belfort? that was caused by the glove, not an elbow), but an elbow dosent have much more chance ending a carrer than a stomp to the head of a downed opponent. nor will it make it any more appealing to those to oppose our sport.

by Andrew Keller on Mar 7, 2010 9:08 PM EST up reply actions

nice post

I have always been pro-bow but lately, I’ve been reconsidering. Looking at things I think I’d rather have elbows out and knees to a downed opponent in!
Fight ending via cut is always bad, but at the same time some fighters have made a career off their ability to throw a bow (ala tito/kflo)

Soccer kicks should never be allowed tho!!

I’m rambling on as I try to convince myself one way or the other

Opinions people!

for what it's worth

no elbows to grounded opponents in Strikeforce…my guess is they don’t want bloody messes on network television

by wandwagon on Mar 7, 2010 9:17 PM EST up reply actions

Elbows should all be allowed.

There is no scientific proof showing that a perfectly timed knee to the head in a clinch is less dangerous than one of the ground. And until there is – then people shouldn’t try to decided what seems worse just by eyeballing it. You guys sound like commissioners watchign ice breaking demonstrations and tryign to ban moves. I personally do think all elbows, stomps, and knee strikes to the head of grounded opponents should be allowed. A cut from a legal strike is just as viable as any other TKO because it was probly caused by a well executed move. Also limiting the striking ability of guys hinders certain type of fighters. Yes we don’t have MT guys who can do standing elbow KOs yet but the way i see it’s the same as telling a BJJ guy well you can’t do certain subs because they look dangerous or painful.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Mar 7, 2010 9:37 PM EST up reply actions

NNR

nice other side of the coin post!

i dont like fights ending via cut (who does) but you’re right if it is the RESULT of a well trained, well timed technique then why not allow it. I liked the comparison with the jitz!

we all agree on soccer kicks tho right

The Good Die Young

by SouthCaliStunNa on Mar 7, 2010 9:59 PM EST up reply actions

no its not the same

Who the hell mentioned something looking dangerous or painful. subs cause fighters to tapp which is what its all about subs dont cause cuts

elbows cause cuts and then the ringside docter stops the fight, no comparison at all

by dia mette on Mar 7, 2010 10:02 PM EST up reply actions

subs cause broken limbs

i think what he saying (the way i took it) is that taking elbows away from certain fighters TITO would be like taking away a submission from certain fighters MAIA

The Good Die Young

by SouthCaliStunNa on Mar 7, 2010 10:09 PM EST up reply actions

yeah they cause broken limbs if the fighter doesnt tap

you can still have effective GnP in mma with out allowing a fighter to throw slicing elbows

Tito and Kenny (i keep using them because their well known for it)

have a dominant ground and pound primarily with the use of elbows.

stuna,

im in agreement with you about allowing knees to the head of a downed opponent, but not soccerkicks or stomps. when your head is on the mat and has no where to go, a hell coming down from a 205lb fighter with good technique, like proper axe kick to the head, can be devistating. at on the feet, you have way more chance to avoid a head kick.

by Andrew Keller on Mar 7, 2010 10:27 PM EST up reply actions

knees to the head of downed opponents should definitely be allowed

familiar faces in unfamiliar places.

by RoBerto. on Mar 8, 2010 12:21 AM EST up reply actions

Good that you guys can at least agree that it takes away from fighters.

Personally though like i said, stomps and soccer kicks should still be viable. But i kinda disagree with Keller a little bit. Essentially the main point is that unlike standing strikes your head has nowhere to move when up against the mat. Well how about in a muay thai clinch? No only does your head have nowhere to go, it is directed with force and speed into oncoming knees so you get an added effect to what stomps do. Way more “dangerous” than your head being stationary IMO. My greatest fear is that elimination of rules and etc… will render MMA into 1995 pancrase. For example compare Olympic boxing compared to professional boxing. That’s what fear does to great sports.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Mar 8, 2010 8:16 AM EST up reply actions

When was the last time a fighter who was losing a fight stolen a win by getting a stoppage via cut from an elbow? The only time I can even think of that happening was when Florian beat Leben on TUF 1. Stoppages from cuts are extremely rare, and when they occur, it’s usually from the guy who was beating the crap out of the other guy anyway.

The weather is here, I wish you were beautiful

by P-Dub on Mar 8, 2010 11:10 AM EST up reply actions

NO knees to the head of a grounded opponent is BAD enough...

I am so sick of people using that rule to prevent from being hit. Such BS. They cover their ears so they cant be hit nor kneed in the head in the turtle position. So many fights would have different outcomes if knees were allowed on the ground.

Wrestlers would all of a sudden not be looking that good after getting kneed in the head. Nate would of KO’d Sonnen if knees to a grounded opponent were allowed. Almost every event there are fights that would have different outcomes if knees were allowed on the ground.

There are ENOUGH rules. We dont need any more. And people want to remove elbows? What would be next. adding boxing gloves so fights wouldnt end as quickly?? It is a fight after all

by fightfan on Mar 8, 2010 8:24 AM EST up reply actions

Good post +1

Get rid of elbows to a grounded opponent! This shit wouldn’t happen nearly as often – and you would hardly even notice that they are gone.

by captainStevo on Mar 8, 2010 12:59 PM EST up reply actions

torres will survive and so will diego.

let’s look at nascar. i don’t know the names and it just happened this weekend but a guy purposely bumped another guys car to flip him b/c the same guy did it to him in another race. i would say nascar has a bigger problem than mma. i know it’s apples and oranges but flipping a car can mean instantaneous death.

I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. I was building a house, I don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. Bang. "Unforgiven" I drink your milkshake. I drink it up! "There Will BE Blood"

by helloGreenStar on Mar 7, 2010 9:11 PM EST reply actions

did you just wake up from a hibernation

first of all stomps are less dangerouse than a punch and a hell of alot safer than elbows how many people did you see get seriously hurt in pride by shoguns stomps NO ONE, most of them dont land but when the fighter would attempt it the fans would be going crazy because the fighter leaps in the air to attempt it

second of all I was reffering to ricco rodriguez elbow on couture that nearly ended his career

and third of all if you disagree with me your a dumbas and no nothing about fighting

by dia mette on Mar 7, 2010 9:17 PM EST reply actions

your first post was actually decently well thought out

but saying anyone who disagrees with you is a dumbass is just plain old stupid

by wandwagon on Mar 7, 2010 9:19 PM EST up reply actions

yep ya lost it all die mette

And no one really looks like they agree with you, so I guess we all know nothing about fighting. Wow I’m at what 2000 posts since new format all of to which I have no idea what I’m talking about. Cool.

And for the record, I’m not so easily sold on foot stomps being much less dangerous then a punch, lol. That can be different in so many ways, and if it were legal, by now in the ufc I’m sure we’d have seen our fair share of gruesome results from them. If not death.

by daniel worby on Mar 7, 2010 9:36 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

your right I shouldnt have said that but it gets annoying when people who have no knowledge of what actually causes damage act like they do

why shouldnt soccer kicks be allowed, the top of the foot is flat and it doesnt cut and it gives a fighter another option to win the fight

“soccer kicks and stops are what actually allow sapp to win fights” thats the dumbest thing ive read today no its dropping elbows and oppening up cuts that allows fighters to win via doctor stoppage

by dia mette on Mar 7, 2010 9:30 PM EST reply actions

not gonna argue

i just posted my opinion. im not a doctor or a physicist, but i am a fighter and i know a little something about what causes damage. i’ll be sure not to post a disagreement with you anymore.

did you see cro cops reaction

when he oppened up his opponent by dropping probably his first elbow in an actual competition he was like I didnt want that to happen he thought the fight should have been stopped right away he didnt want to hurt his opponent

no MMA fan I know wants to see that

by dia mette on Mar 7, 2010 9:33 PM EST reply actions

Well

It sounds like you’re really adimate about this topic so I’ll let it rest. I just don’t see much logic in your reasoning other than elbows create cuts which stop fights. I don’t like to see a fight get stopped due to a cut any more than the next fan, I just think that it is an additional skill that fighters work hard to perfect. A knee and a soccer kick is something that anyone can throw to a downed opponent, but you need to be crafty with elbows.

Confused about what deaths in Pride vs. UFC have to do with anything...

There have been only 3 confirmed deaths in mma. One in the US and 2 (1 in the Ukraine and 1 in Korea) in unsanctioned events. Dedge who died in the Ukraine incident had a cracked skull that he continued to fight with, even though American drs. told him to take a year or more off to let it heal. His team felt the injury wasn’t as bad as drs made it out to be. Which is probably the reason he wasn’t fighting in a sanctioned fight. So what does the Pride vs. UFC rules have to do with anything related to death?

Come on now...

Of all the fights in MMA history what percentage of them do you really think have been stopped specifically by cuts caused by elbows? It has to be less than 1%. I’d be curious to see the real data on that. I know you remember all the times it happened but really in the grand scheme of things I think that a very low percentage of fights over the years have been stopped specifically because of that. Just a thought.

I really h8 when a fighter is on all 4’s & he can just stall right there cuz he knows he’s not allowed 2 get kicked or kneed. Knees & kicks 2 the head R only allowed standing only? I think that’s a bunch of horse shit! U shud be allowed 2 knee & kick in the head in ULTIMATE FIGHTING!
