K-1 World GP 2010 update: Schilt, Zimmerman, Overeem, Hari, Le Banner, Karaev confirmed for 4/3
Fighting and Entertainment Group (FEG) has announced four additional bouts for the "K-1 World GP 2010 in Yokohama," scheduled for April 3 at Yokohama arena in Yokohama, Japan.
The event features the K-1 Heavyweight title match between Kyotaro and Peter Aerts. Spearheading the newly announced cards is the K-1 Super Heavyweight title match between the four-time K-1 WGP winner, Semmy Schilt, and fellow Golden Glory product, Errol Zimmerman.
While FEG originally tapped Alistair Overeem as Schilt's opponent, Overeem declined the matchup, citing his intent to focus on MMA in 2010 in an effort to defeat Fedor Emelianenko.
The absentee Strikeforce heavyweight champion will instead face the former WKA European champion, Dzevad Poturak. Poturak, a native of Sarajevo, Bosnia, is an aggressive puncher who has garnered support among K-1 enthusiasts. He holds notable victories over Melvin Manhoef and the leg kick fiend, Daniel Ghita.
K-1 World GP 2009 runner-up, Badr Hari will also return to Japan in April. His opponent will be the resurgent Belarusian super heavyweight, Alexey Ignashov. Monikered the "Red Scorpion," Ignashov has been highly touted for his talent and technical polish; however, he has been notoriously inconsistent in his performance over the years and even confessed to battling alcoholism. Now training out of Auckland, New Zealand, he holds notable victories over Hari, Schilt, Peter Aerts, and Mike Bernardo in his twelve-year career.
Finally, Jerome Le Banner will return against the fellow K-1 2009 World GP Final Eight participant, Ruslan Karaev.
At the press conference, FEG released the following schedule of World GP events in 2010:
3/28 K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 in Warsaw, Poland
4/10 K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 in Vilnius, Lithuania
4/17 K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 in Baku, Azerbaijan
5/21 K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 (Eastern Europe GP) in Bucharest, Romania
6/5 K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 (Western Europe GP) in Dortmund, Germany
6 - 8 Oceania GP in Australia, Asia GP in China
8/? K-1 World Grand Prix Final 16 Qualification GP in Europe or Japan

And Strikeforce thinks Overeem is going to fight in May?

I honestly don't know what is up with Overeem's schedule
He was scheduled to fight in some event in the Balkans around April and then he is confirmed for this K-1 fight. Also, I read that FEG prez mentioned that he talked about wanting to fight for DREAM later this month. One thing is certain: He probably won’t fight for Strikeforce until the third or fourth quarter of this year.

why the hell is the Overeem/Rogers fight a non-title.
the guy fights for them once every 5 years and they make it an exhibition fight. Strikeforce is the gayest promotion. Overeem is a huge homo.
For sure doggy. All k1 & dream come on hdnet

I haven’t seen that fight. I’ll go check it out.
About Kharitonov I hear he is training in Holland in the same camp with Alistair. In his last MMA fight he failed badly vs Jeff Monson in April 2009. He looked completely out of shape for that. Then he did a K-1 fight vs Daniel Ghita which is brutal to watch for all the leg kicks he took (go watch that one). I don’t know if the guy really wants to be a fighter. He hasn’t been very active in the last few years.
Ya he was a monster when he was active!
I 4got about the Daniel ghita fight. It looked like both his legs were broken when he tried walking out of the fight.

He simply doesn't care about MMA anymore.
Wasted good years doing jack. I love his fight with Rizzo. To this day his right, counter left straight, slip then right hook to the body in the fight is one the cleanest combo’s i’ve seen put together in MMA.
