James Toney would KO couture with 1 punch. sure randy can work the clinch and takedowns, but if Toney hits randy once, just once, it’s lights out for couture, no doubt!!!

by deuce 4 on Mar 4, 2010 10:08 AM EST up reply actions

that's a dumb thing to say

Just because Toney is a great boxer, doesn’t make him super man, there is no magical lightning bolt that comes from his hands, he hits hard yes, but you honestly believe that Toney could KO Randy with a jab? Randy has been punched in the face by Vitor Belfort, Chuck Liddell, Brock Lesnar… etc… those are all pretty hard hitting guys… If Toney cracks him with his biggest baddest punch then yes you’re right Randy and most other human beings are out but not just any punch!

Fedor with a gun... ULTIMATE DANGER!!!

by Spinning Fat Kick on Mar 4, 2010 10:28 AM EST up reply actions

Difference is

Tony’s accurace is so much above all those guys and accuracy does make Knockout Power. It is the difference between Anderson and Vitor, both huge knockout power but for completly different reasons. Vitor because of crazy speed and power and Anderson due to insane accuracy, Toney has both. With that said there is no matchup that would favor Toney because no one is just going to stand and box with him and Toney is screwd if he ends up on his back or gets in a kickboxing match with someone that can kick.

by Edgecrusher71 on Mar 4, 2010 11:13 AM EST up reply actions

YEa but

He’s been knocked out by all of those guys except VITOR hahahaha ur stupid LMAO… Toney would KO RAndy if the fight stays standing for more than a round. It doesnt have to be the biggest punch. Do you think anyone in MMA right now hits as hard as A guy who has been training nothing but his hands for all his life? As well as a FORMER would CHAMPION are YOU CRAZY>> DAM MANIA its soo obvious TO TELL who actually knows about and FIGHTS as oppose to the guys who just watch TV and Make stupid ass Observations

Got to love Randy just for the fact that...

The dude is in his late forties, will fight anyone, no matter the size or age, and now is the first person to want to step up and fight Toney, that a boy Randy. I hope i’m rocking it like Randy when i am his age…lol. Even though you could put up a completely opposing argument that Randy wants another big pay-check, he knows it will be an easy fight for him etc etc, but I am quite content in my original thoughts.

what about a devastating upper cut to randy in the close clinch..and then this boxing bastard takes out a huge mma star..that would suck..though in tony’s case he has a professional punchers chance of taking out randy..i dunno, i respect the hell outta randy for his accomplishments and i would not want them tarnished or questioned so easily.

Think this is a great fight for Randy

Like tkpal says above, huge paycheck, pretty high risk – but I have a feeling Randy wont mess around with the stand up and take it to the ground relatively quickly. Who cares about the paycheck?

The guy always comes to fight. Go back and watch his Gonzaga fight where Randy looked going in like Gabe was going to kill him and Randy schooled his butt and beat the snot out of him. Watch the Nog fight. Randy is a tough SOB who ALWAYS comes to fight and is always in TOP condition. There’s a chance of Toney landing a big punch but Couture will try and avoid that, close the distance and work his flabbiness up against the cage and eventually take him down for some good ole GNP. Toney will have trouble getting back to his feet due to being out of shape let alone escaping anything on the ground.

Randy has his way with James “lights out on the all-you-can-eat buffet” Toney and makes him rethink his decision to cross over.

not Randys fault

He was very vocal about not worrying about the title when rogan interviewed him. What’s he supposed to turn down the offer if its presented to him? Good luck with that. Blame joe Silva or dana if it happens. We all know Randy doesn’t turn down ANYONE.

If Vera beat couture then somehow got passed Jones (he won’t) you’d all believe ‘the truth’ and want him in with the title shot.

Toney has a bad style for MMA

Toney has very little footwork, & is a counterpuncher. He will literally be taken down at will. He has no wrestling experience, & has never been in a clinch…. every punch he has ever thrown was without any notion that he could be kicked or taken down. Any UFC fighter with solid muay thai would take his legs out with kicks. His style of boxing does not translate well into MMA at all. Couture would end the fight within the first minute. Toney is an incredible boxer with power & a chin, but unless they match him up with un-rounded guys who just brawl with hands, he’s not gonna last. Let’s not forget his reputation for not training hard… even flaking out on guys like Freddie Roach… I’m convinced he thinks he’s just gonna eat a few punches, throw a hard right, & all his opponents will just cry “MOMMY!” & fall over. The fact that Dana White signed him to a multi-fight deal without even one MMA fight to prove himself tells me that he’s planning on feeding him a few guys like Kimbo (who, by the way, despite very little ground experience, submitted Ray Mercer with little trouble) to try & build him up for ratings. I predict a colossal fiasco.

by Erbros on Mar 4, 2010 11:47 AM EST reply actions

The Kimbo-Mercer fight was comical

Mercer tapped before Kimbo had the guillotine applied properly, even quicker than Varner’s tap against Smooth.
