King Mo: Gegard Mousasi is going to feel my power

King-mo-rope_medium

Props: MMA Fighting

Quoteworthy:

"People wonder if I'm ready for Mousasi? Is Mousasi ready for me? What happens when I win? Is everyone going to say, 'Oh, he just had a bad night.' All the people can say is that he has experience over me. I don't think I'll get the respect when I win. I think people will say, 'Forget it, we overrated Mousasi.' ... Who's he fought up until Cyborg? Until he got to the DREAM tournament. First five years, he wasn't fighting big names. I didn't hear people saying he should be fighting tougher people. If I want to get takedowns, I'll get them. It's not like he has much power. I have more power than he does. Even though he looks crisp, he's got a lot of holes in his standup. He's not going to land. He's taller and rangier, but he's going to feel my power. I've watched all the film on him, but I mean, what film can he watch on me? There's not much to watch, and every time I've been out there, I've fought differently."

Undefeated light heavyweight sensation Muhammed Lawal is slowly becoming the Rodney Dangerfield of mixed martial arts as he continually fails to get respect for his talents. That can change very quickly if he manages to defeat fellow import Gegard Mousasi at the upcoming Strikeforce: "Nashville" event on April 17. How about it Maniacs -- does a "KIng Mo" win make him that damn good? Or does it mean "The Dreamcatcher" was simply overrated? Opinions, please.

Can't see King Mo winning any where it goes

If it goes to the ground Mousassi can submit him since he is superb off his back, if it is a stand up slugfest Mousasi who is the more seasoned and technical fighter will pick him apart. King Mo’s first loss will put his ego down a bit

After reviewing many fight tapes, I'll say UD for the Nog bros and Dean Lister white belt.

Everyone is hating on Mo just because he can talk. The man has skills. If he decides to take mousasi down, he can win this fight. I mean what the man grapple against beasts to see how good his mat work is. Mousasi’s game off his back is a bit overrated. I mean he’s good but look at the people he’s subbed. His standup is by far his biggest asset here especially since Mo likes to keep his guard down and let’s his ego get in the way of technical defense.

when gegard hit jacare with that ko Up kick

what position was Jac in? Standing, kneeling?

I’m calling Mousasi in this but i also think it will be Mo’s coming out party. I think he can turn into a take down monster er the new Randleman out there….

I just think Mousasi’ laser beams land before Mo’s bombs.

by Bigger Zino on Mar 30, 2010 2:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Mousasi was coming in for a GNP punch and was technically falling I think...

to answer the position question. Before he started the movement he was standing though.

BANG

that is legal in North American MMA… excellent. thanks for the gif leerage.

I am already seeing Mo when I look at Jac here. I expect this or a very very deep submission, but Mo will flurry. He will just have no idea what to do with Mousasi when the flurry is over and gegared is expressionless.

WOW. First I saw this.

Watch his eyes.Gegard watches this the whole way through. Impressive.

King Mo is going is going to finish Mousasi...

He is twice the athlete Mousasi is… Mo WILL take him down and not get sub’d… He trains with world klass bjj fighters regularly (Lister, Werdum, Babalu)… Mousasi is going to sleep from a GnP TORCHING!!!

lol

Yeah and Babalu can give him insight on how it is to be in the cage with Gegard. hahahah, kinda like Serra helped Hardy A LOT.

That whole bit was done for the primetime show.

If you’ve seen serra interviewed – he says it that Dana asked to do him a favor. It was gonna create nonsense coz serra is loyal so he had to get approval from Renzo to help hardy against GSP. All primetime shit made my dana. Before then they had never spoken before. In Mo’s case, he is always down in brazil training at the Nog center, always in cali with all these world class guys, ever since his first fight.

I agree

Mo is a great up and coming fighter, I believe he has a great future in the sport, but this will more than likely be a humbling loss for him. Mousassi is just too skilled. Mo has not faced anyone near Mousassi’s skill level.

Mighty Schmo is going to get humbled

I’m sick of this dude. He’s nothing more than a poor man’s Quinton Jackson

by SHORT_BUS on Mar 30, 2010 1:39 PM EDT reply actions

This would be a HUGE win for King Mo. Mousasi’s a big up and coming fighter, for Mo to beat him would say a lot about him. If he comes in and fights an intelligent fight he stands a chance, he does have KO power and some good wrestling that he could easily put Mousasi on his back setting us some gnp depending how good his sub defense is. Not too sure he’ll come in with a good game plan though, I expect him to get caught in a slug fest with and get picked apart all night. Mousasi but UD or tko 3rd round.

by ppwwpp on Mar 30, 2010 1:58 PM EDT reply actions

That's what i imagine - a slugfest is what might make him lose.

As far as decision though i think he wins the fight especially if he decides to wrestle him around and grapple. I don’t think Mousasi’s game off his back is what it’s made out to be. Really the slickest move i’ve seen from him is that hook sweep he pulled on Sok.

Blowing up Jacare was damn impressive.

After a minor genealogical search, I have determined that Cain Velasquez's great-grandfather was a truck.
And Mirko Cro Cop is a direct descendant of a wrecking ball. But I think you already knew that.

by Johnny WF on Mar 30, 2010 2:34 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I am not counting strikes as part of his grappling game though maybe i should.

That upkick was as jacare was trying to land a shot of his own and then hopefully land in his guard.

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Mar 30, 2010 2:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Im going with ma dude King Mo on this one

So hopefully he can get into the UFC and get his head crushed like a melon by Rampage sledge hammer fists for talkn smack at Wal-Mart last year.

by The Legacy on Mar 30, 2010 2:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Hell ya a win over Gegard would earn him all the respect he’s been wanting. Not likely to happen tho. All of that striking experience of Gegard’s will pay huge dividends. Sure Mo is the better wrestler but what about Gegards trips and throws? Aside from 1 or 2 possible TD’s from Mo this fight should be one-sided for Gegard.

Mousasi survived Manhoef

I think he knows how to take power.

Mousasi all the way!

I really hope Mousasi wins this fight. I don’t like Mo and would love to see him lose by KO or TKO.

by Brotherwolf on Mar 30, 2010 2:57 PM EDT reply actions

King big Mo-uth

This guy is garbage. Vastly overrated. If he beats Mousassi, I’ll eat my words. but I don’t see it happening in a 3 or 30 round fight. His striking is crap, yes he has power but his technique is terrible. No way he wins this.

I see mousasi beating the crap out of king mo the same way he beat sokdjou!

Mousasi is the man ! I hope he goes 2 the ufc when his contract Is up. I know dana’s a big mousasi fan 2.

Ya I don't think this is guna be any easy fight for either guy!

Mo is confident but he’s talking like he’s just guna walk thru mousasi. Bad move mousasi is tuff as hell & he can take a shot. He’s been training with the red devil fight for a while now.

by d*locc on Mar 30, 2010 4:44 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I know this is a tough one

Gegards win against Sobral was impressive, but i wasn’t that impressed with his performance against the African Assassin who has some of the same strengths King Mo has. But with saying that King Mo’s best opponet has been White head that may seemed impreesive to some but somthing Sobral also did and as you know Sobral lost to Gegard pretty bad. Though King Mo did take him out with fair ease. I’m thinking this fight will be a great battle and I think King Mo is going to try and make this one more of a wrestling match? I’m leaning towards Gegard right now.

i wasnt impressed at all with the sokoudjo win

he gassed like he always does and that gave gegard the fight, up until then the african assassin wasnt looking too bad. king mo can make this a fight, i’m definetly pumped about this one

by panthro on Mar 30, 2010 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Soko fought the best fight of his life,

that is what made Mousasi, look bad. You cannot blame Mousasi for Soko putting in a great effort. Getting himself out of trouble and getting the victory was still a good performance to me.

UMMMMMMM

Gegard didnt train with GSP for nothing….

Maybe it was more for Gegard that they actually met.
Who else to practice takedown defences with?

King mo has been training with anybody who is anyone

Seems like every time i hear about some fighter, one of the dudes in his camp is Mo

by sexyama on Mar 31, 2010 7:24 AM EDT reply actions

Hmmm

I didn’t think about this match-up before I just assumed Mousassi would win because he was the better fighter. But I have just had an epiphany, Mo is the stronger and more explosive athlete plus he has a strong wrestling base… Now I would give the cardio and striking to Mousassi (but Mo still has knockout power here to cause threat). If Mo scores the takedown he could do some serious damage maybe enough to eliminate the cardio advantage… I think this is a bad match-up for Mousassi especially because Mo is underrated so if he wins he doesn’t add shit ton of cred and if he loses he falls down the proverbial stairs.

by Seyc Blood Claw on Apr 2, 2010 9:36 PM EDT reply actions

King Mo will win...

but it won’t be Lawal. It will be King Mo"usasi". Can’t wait for Gegard to shut his “ochocinco” mouth. Hates guys like him.
