The way I see it... GSP always seems to put more punches down the pipe when he's facing someone with a great ground game like Fitch or Koscheck. Even though I'm truly fine with the way GSP wants’ to "Protect His House"; I think in his next fight the masses want to see some stand up.
I have read plenty of arguments on both sides saying either he's great at what he does, is ground game is active, and haters are going to hate. Or, Georges is a big pussy, and he's afraid to stand. These kinds of comments are coming from knowledgeable MMA bloggers, and I bet the casual viewing audience is leaning on the side of WTF stand up and fight. Normally I would say let a fighter fight the best way he can to get the W, and receive the least amount of damage as possible. But, Georges wants to build an ora around being a complete martial artist, make himself one of the best of all times (which he is), and leaving a legacy. This kind of self prophecy can only come from the masses. One does not achieve a Hero status with a small band of MMA nerds. A world view will put him where HE wants to be.
So, with that being said I think bringing over Jake Shields is in everyone’s best interest. Yes, there is a real possibility for the fight to turn into a horizontal hug fest, but I think GSP would go back to the bad ass GnP he put on Thiago Alves, and leave the sub attempts to Shields. The same could be said for Fitch and Koscheck, but we've all seen that played out before. Shields would be new shark in a small pond, with only one real Great White.
