UFC Quick Quote: Wanderlei Silva ready for a sexy fight -- and a Bisping rematch

Silva-aki-brit_medium

"I know I'm going to fight soon. I'm going to have a great surprise for my fans what date I'm going to fight. (Akiyama's) a great match because he's an incredible fighter. He's got an Olympic gold medal. He's had great performances in Dream in Japan, (he's) very famous there. I think it's a great opportunity, one more really tough opponent, and I'm going to prove in the future it's possible I can be with the best fighters in 185. The next is (Akiyama) and he is number one, and the number two is Bisping because I'm going to give a rematch to him."

Wanderlei Silva talks to MMAWeekly about his new life at middleweight after a career of terrorizing fighters in higher weight classes. "The Axe Murderer" made his 185-pound debut a successful one by outpointing Michael Bisping en route to a unanimous decision win at UFC 110 in Sydney. "The Count" was vocal about the scorecards and even went so far as to say he won the fight -- but may regret that statement because the Brazilian is welcoming a rematch to erase any and all doubt. First up however, is the sexiest fight of his life when he answers the call of Yoshihiro Akiyama, rumored to be as early as UFC 115. Can Silva overcome "Sexyama" and win back-to-back fights for the first time since 2006?

He won’t be so sexy after Wand is done with him, but I miss the 205 Wand with bigger muscles.

This Wand was a beast alright....

what does that even mean? does Kongo look natural to you?

where does that come from anyway? the fact that it was in Japan? dude, you’re full of shit, there is not a single shred of evidence to suggest that he ever used. Just dicks like you saying that he did better in Japan than in the UFC. big fucking whoop. go bitch about something else.

I agree

Just because people have fought in Japan and are big physical specimens does not mean they’ve juiced. That’s just poor logic.

i agree about rematches too soon..

but i think the shogun / dragon rematch is the only one i will excuse from this category..
i would like to see wandy go on a winning streak..he looks good with the weight off i think.

sarah

Shogun/machida is more than acceptable its a must so Shogun can get what he should already have (tho close he won, imo).

Wand does look good with the weight off this time but I can’t help but wonder how he would fair against guys like Chael and Marquardt…..

Hopefully after Wand puts the stamp on Sexyama we'll see what he can do against the cream of the crop

Akiyama fight is not good idea for Wandy

Sexyama has a granite chin, and some of the absolute best Judo in all of MMA, he can take down and control Wandy on the ground and he can take most any punch, I think Wandy’s best chance in this fight would be some knees, get back in the plum Wanderlei!!!!

Wand’s fans wish the Axe Murderer has gotten the confidence back. Wand won’t improve any skill or learn new tricks. His goal is fight aggressively to threaten the opponents and then land any helicopter blow to knockout.

Sexyamas Chin...

Sexyama has the strongest Japanese chin right now. Machida if you count him Japanese hasn’t had his chin tested that much

by Apocacryptic on Mar 3, 2010 11:16 AM EST up reply actions

Japanese? actually he's Korean

plus forget that bit anyway, try the possibly the strongest chin, of all UFC MWs. who has a better chin? I appreciate that Belcher isn’t exactly known for being a power house, but he has KO’d people in the past and he absolutley bettered Akiyama’s chin with his biggest baddest punches, literally using the cage as a launching platform for superman punches and… nothing

how the F did Sexy not see that one coming?

oh, he did see it coming. and let it through anyway? did he really just know that he would be able to walk right through a cage-launched superman punch? if so, such a sexy beast. bit risky tho

Wand hasn’t never been submitted and is greasy to get up from the turtle position. It won’t be Akyiama to finish him or slay him on the floor.

I agree SFK

he has a great chin i mean just look at the shots he took n the belcher fight & still didn’t get ko’d….but i think wandy stands a good chance if he can get him in the clince.

Beauty vs Beast

Sexyama vs Wanderlei! Has fight of the night writteen all over it

by Apocacryptic on Mar 3, 2010 11:14 AM EST reply actions

If Akiyama

Uses Judo, he probably is going to win ( although Wandy did show good skill at getting back up after being taken down against Bisping ), and if its stand up I think Wand will be the first to knock him out; I think that last Bisping knockdown probably did lots for his confidence.

by theworldismine on Mar 3, 2010 11:22 AM EST reply actions

Bisping is a BITCH!!!

Finish the fight and the judges cant take it from you bitch!!! bisping never gave the Hammer a rematch and bisbitch lost that fight but the judges gave it to bitchboy bisping! Wandy beat that bitch !!!!!

Japanese? actually he’s Korean

Whatever LOL.
Akyiama made up a good fight at UFC 100, where he showed off a great disposition to beat Belcher. I don’t think Wand’s going to get past him hands down.

Good

A rematch with Bisping is needed caus Wand certainly didnt impress in that fight.
I had it 29-28 Bisping.
But that knockdown in the end was what tipped it in Wand favour.

by Lester The Pimp on Mar 3, 2010 12:39 PM EST reply actions

all the sexyness vs the beast, man oh man, memories of pride (sniffles) great fight and hope Wandy takes this, but wish the best for sexy after this fight. Also hope bisping brings the fight next time, I was LMAO when Wandy mentioned he bisping ran…

by Lil Pinga on Mar 3, 2010 12:41 PM EST reply actions

bisping needs 2 b thinking bout dan miller & worry bout wand at another time cause if he loses that fight than a rematch with wand may not happen.

by titonash23 on Mar 3, 2010 12:53 PM EST via mobile reply actions

TRUTH

But Bisping should beat miller handidly plus even another 3 losses in a row wouldn’t put bisping out. He’ll always be with the UFC I imagine!

TUF winner, a Brit , and cocky/loud mouth he aint going anywhere!

Frickin Hilarious!!!!

I Think Akiyama has this fight in his hands to lose. Better Grappler More Precise Striker. Wand is a legend Sure but Akiyama is much more evolved.

by AintNoSunshine on Mar 3, 2010 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

No need for a Bisping rematch

There was no controversy at all. Bisping has to get by Miller first before there is any talk of a rematch.

As for this fight I’m convinced that Wand will be too big and aggressive for Sexyama, he’ll be the first guy to ko him without the result getting overturned. Sexyama has to use his judo in this fight as Wand is a much better striker than him. Should be a good fight though.

"Not a lot of professional sports down here (in Australia)"
"We just had our best season (of TUF) last season and it was season 10"
"Nogueira is probabaly the best HW of all time"

Dana White, proving that he's clueless about Australian sports, has never heard of Fedor and is still trying to hype up TUF 10.
