This fight has snoozer written all over it

Everyone is in love with Dan and only remember his KO of Bisping. People seem to forget that decision Dan is usually the one that shows up.

by SHORT_BUS on Mar 3, 2010 10:21 AM EST up reply actions

I have never watched one boring Hendo fight

I’ve seen Decisions but they are not snoozefests. I have not seen all of his fights though

Which fight of his would you call boring?

by Bigger Zino on Mar 3, 2010 10:24 AM EST up reply actions

True

Hendo has a lot of decisions on his record, but he also hits very hard with both hands. It’s worth watching just for that threat, as opposed to Jake’s blanket effect.

by L E E on Mar 3, 2010 10:25 AM EST up reply actions

u mean the GSP effect.

Oh never mind, we don’t say that about GSP, cause he is special. Wish I could take it back.

had Nog > Cain.

Then had [Velasquez: kg12 was right] for a couple weeks cause of the bet. And now just Velasquez. :)

Are you sold on Cain Jay?

I am not yet… I still think that JDS, Carwin and Mir would all beat him.

I am still of the mindset that I OVERestimated Big Nog and now believe that his chin has gone soft and he will be irrelevant soon.

Let me know what u think.

I've believed that Nog was done for a long time now.

I just figured Cain was so badly overhyped. I’m definitely not sold on Cain like a lot of these guys are. He loses to Shane, Mir, Brock and JDS. So we agree completely.

If he was so terrified he wouldn't have stood with alves as long as he did

Boring well that’s a matter of taste. Over rated? Well maybe, but he has been the champ for a while and has beaten some tough guys and completely owned them. Gsp has out struck every person he fought since he lost to serra(check out any stats site), its called mixing it up. Fighters don’t know what he is going to do, it makes there stand up less effective, smart tactic. What ever floats your boat, I look at a fighters performance over all, not just his last fight, gsp was badly hurt the last two rounds in his fight with alves, he should be commended for winning that fight not given criticism for not looking great, he’s lucky he won in the shape he was in. Its a testament to his toughness and desire to win, unlike some people not going to mention any names, who quite in the corner. It’s MIXED martial arts people, gsp mixes it up better than anyone out there, hence his out striking his opponents and taking them down so easily.

by nathang on Mar 3, 2010 4:08 PM EST up reply actions

...

GSP is pretty far and away from “mixing it up.” The guy fights for his legacy, as he claims, yet he constantly fights safe; looking for points wins against mostly smaller and outclassed opponents. I’m not a big A. Silva fan, but at least he moves up and challenges himself. And you never hear other great fighters (Fedor, Silva) talk about a legacy, yet outsize their opponents and refuse to move up. Legacy? Enough with that. Move up. Stop playing it safe, not finishing smaller and severely outclassed fighters. Yes, boring too.

I spoke only the truth

If gsp doesn’t mix it up then why do we constantly hear ad nauseam how he mixes things up and is so well rounded and his opponents can’t see the take down coming.. please. LMAO…Anderson silva???? That’s hilarious, the best striker by far in MMA fighting 2 guys perfectly tailor made for him, WOW that’s challenging himself, like gsp didn’t against the most powerful striker at WW?. Your delusional LEE gsp is always trying to finish a fight, did you just watch him for the first time fighting alves? Yes he did try to survive the last two rounds with a torn groin, and did hold alves down..he’s guilty of that. A Silva has been running hot and cold lately, I still think he’s an amazing fighter. A Silva would be scared shiteless to face a 205lber who was a brilliant wrestler/submission artist, Leites had him in a cold sweat.

honest question Freenow82

What does shields do better in your opinion?

-This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

by PSYQO78 on Mar 3, 2010 10:47 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

He is younger, faster and hungrier.

The only thing that Shields is actually better yet is of course Jiu Jitsu.

But we know that MMA Math doesn’t work. Shields wins fights and hasn’t lost for like 5 years. Yes, his competition wasn’t top notch, but there were some good guys among the wins.

Dan’s last 5 fights were 2 losses, one split decision, one un. decision and one knockout against Bisping (loved it, but doesn’t mean anything).

I will not bet you guys since Dan is gonna be a huge favorite. But I will bet on Shields at the great odds I probably will be getting online.

mma math

isn’t saying “he lost x out of his last y fights” mma math as well? Wandy lost 5 out of hist last 6 before the Bisping fight and that didnt matter.

Most people looking at both fighters, see Hendo being bigger and stronger, see his attitude being all right, and no fundamental weakness (e.g. good enough on the ground not to be submitted easily).

Very true. Most people do look at it that way.

Also true that I kinda was doing MMA math with 5 fights thing.

My general picture is that of a young hungry guy who hasn’t lost in years vs a (in my opinion) washed up old fighter. Yes, the strength is a factor, but I think people overestimate Dan’s recent strength.

We will just have to wait and see. I am a big Shields fan and biased in that way so my view might be swayed that way. But most people here love Dan (i never liked him) and hate Shields for his GSPishness (but they love GSP. Sense?) so lets just let the fight speak for itself.

“and hate Shields for his GSPishness (but they love GSP. Sense?) "

Their love for Shields makes sense if they do not agree with your assumption that “Shield is GSPish”.

GSP is clearly a dominant fighter and does use hands and feet (even though some would probably like to see even more blood…). He also has a distinctive style in interviews that people seem to like.

You meant their hate for Shields right… I figure you did.

I pretty much used all my (maybe biased) arguments up there, so we will have to agree to disagree and watch that fight to see what happens.

oh

actually I meant “their love for GSP” lol.

I just commented on your MMA math (after I was wrong with Wandy-Bisping, doing my own flawed maths there).

I don’t mind the fight being “boring” and I don’t mind Shields either, fighting Hendo is the real test that has been due for a long time, and if he wins, I’m very impressed and it will speak volumes about the quality of UFC vs. other promotions…

No real argument here, I only wish the fight would be sooner

Look at both there striking stat’s. Its laughable. Gsp has almost out struck everyone he fought, even after his loss to serra, shields has hands not much better than hughes, he’s just a better grappler.

it’s not a boring fight to me when the fighters are interesting and it’s for the title etc. I don’t mind if the fight stays at the ground, it’ll still be exciting to watch.

Knowing that they fight under MMA rules and could do all kinds of punching and kicking makes it a “real”, all out fight and if it’s at the ground, then that’s where it is.

Not the most charismatic guy Hendo

But he is still one of my favorite fighters. As far as this fight goes, I give Shields about a 15-20% chance of getting a sub, only way he can win that I can see. The thing about Shields, he usually fights from dominant top position. Don’t think he will be able to get Dan in top position to much, which will make it a long night for him.

by domino effect on Mar 3, 2010 1:58 PM EST reply actions

Don't see Shields win by decisionpossibly?

Dan has been known to gas, and Shields can go 5 rounds easily. Agreed with the top position argument, but for some reason I think Shields can take down. (reason might be my bias of course)

O.k so you don’t like gsp, a MUCH more well rounded fighter than shields but you like shields?..AKA huggy bear? Are you on crack man…for F-sake watch gsp/miller(excellent fight) vs shields/miller(snooze fest) -one of the gayest looking fights of all time, and you have the gall to call gsp boring? Shield is right up there with clay(huggy bear)matt hughes, jon fitch. Shields is an excellent grappler but hating on gsp and loving this guy is weird. Gsp most likely is over rated, and has being using his wrestling a bit much lately..I don’t blame him he just fought the best striker at WW(alves) and LW(penn) and he’s just a boring wrestler for mostly using Gnp? OMG, you know I speak the truth, gsp has his flaw like everyone else but keep it real.

How could anyone comepare shield with gsp?

Do me a favor an watch gsp/miller then watch miller/shields, you’ll know what I mean. Shield hugged miller for dear life and won the match, huggy style, like huggy bear. This is MMA so who knows how the fight will go but anything is possible, shield could catch dan in a sub or dan could ko shields.
