UFC Quick Quote: Georges St. Pierre not impressed with his performance

Gsp-hardy-2_medium

"I was not that pleased about my performance. I won, but I haven’t beat my performance of last time, so I’m not happy. I wanted to finish, you know, have a clean win and for me, like this, it’s not clean. I forgot the technical element of it. Sometimes those technical details make the difference. I wanted to go 100 percent. I trained (submissions) to break. At one point, I was like, ‘Man, I think I broke his shoulder,’ and then one time I thought I’d broke his arm when I had the juju-gatame. I heard like ‘click, click.’ It was completely extended. I believe my standup is superior (to Hardy’s), but it could have been a risk because that’s his main asset."

Regining UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre is critical of his performance at the UFC 111 post fight press conference (via Sherdog.com) when talking about his main event title fight against Dan Hardy at the March 27 event from the Prudential Center in Newark. "Rush" controlled the fight for all five rounds with a superios wrestling and top game but was unable to finish the British striker despite several deep arm locks that had "The Outlaw" grimacing in pain. While it was another unanimous decision win for the champ, he's not pleased with his performance. Any fans out there want to let him off the hook for not finishing a fighter that was clearly overmatched?

Yeah, except for almost having his arm ripped off and having his other arm bent almost completely in half, Hardy was in no trouble. Easy night for him.

And the mount position he had 4 times. Also that side control dropping knees didn't look to impressive for Dan.

GSP killed this guy and of course the people who don’t like him are saying GSP was boring. None of you dicks even watched the fight, you watched the clock hoping for a decision so you could complain.

Just keep hating on GSP. Mount does do something, it broke Dan Hardy last night. Did you see his face between the fourth and fifth round? He was mentally broken from being dominated. GSP kills the spirit of these dudes until they realize that GSP really is THAT good.

jay's 100% correct

there’s no comparing what gsp did on the ground to what jon fitch did(nothing), gsp constantly worked positions, sub attempts and g-n-p, it just turns out that dan hardy is one tough s.o.b. and is apparently double jointed or at least he is now

Okay...I have to say this.

I am kind of curious – I’ve watched fights where 1 dude spends 2 full rounds on top of a guy patting him ever-so-lightly on the head with his fist while going for the same sub over-and-over-and-over until he gets it, and then I’ll come on here and people will be going ape-shit over this idiot’s grappling. GSP was all over that guy from guard to half guard, to side control, to full mount and north/south. He looked for rear naked chokes, armbars, arm triangles, kimuras, 2 knee bars and some other leg lock or maybe a heel hook, he also did strike effectively when it was on the feet, he bloodied up Hardy a bit and virtually tenderized his mid-section in the last 2 rounds. GSP is not a boring ground fighter. He’s very active and looks for more than one sub while employing striking to the entire body and passing to more dominant positions.

I’m not saying it was a good fight. I’m just saying maybe it’s not completely Georges’ fault that he dominated Hardy like an overweight big brother.. you know?

His ground game was masterful, but It frustrates me that he is such a pussy that we will never really get to see his stellar stand up again.

FUCK u guys!

joking by the way! yea it was a little boring but only because GSP is on a different level than these guys and watching them try to fight him is a bit shit cos he just dominates and such 1-sided affairs arent usually exciting.

Its like saying why does Dan hardy not take it to the ground in his fights – because he feels superior standing up just like GSP does on the ground!

He fights smart, which is what a mixed martial artist should fight like – its just GSPs style – he doesnt have KO power and most likely never will so why would he stand up with guys who do when hes such a great wrestler!

Her has loads to lose, so obviously he will be cautious and not make a stand up battle of it when it is not needed.

I would like to see a top class grappler take GSP on next but i cant think of many which are anywhere near close to being as well rounded as GSP is!

PS. I think GSP would have toyed hardy on the feet if it came to it, all hardy had was a 1 punch chance a la matt serra!

In years to come ppl will look back at GSP and marvel at how he makes fighters crumble – HArdy knew it was over after the 3rd round just like Alves did showing that GSP broke them mentaly in my opinion.

PPS – Damn HARDY has some big balls, it looked like GSP stopped at 1 stage in that kimura because he couldnt believe there was no tap!

This is rubbish

People are booing over Jon Fitch doing lay n pray but yet are saying how great GSP is for doing it. I have watched GSP for a while now and I do think he is as boring as all the lay n prayers. But, it is his strength he does not have knock out power and so he utilises his wrestling which is his strength.

I am a Brit but even I knew Hardy had no chance in this because over here we do not wrestle we box so it was always going to be one sided. But this is MMA and wrestling is part of that, but I just do not understand the people who boo one minute for somebody who is laying n praying and then cheering if it is GSP doing the same thing!!

I have watched UFC since the second Liddell vs Horn fight and I think the UFC is far superior now to back then (hence why Liddell is no longer at the top of the pile (and I am a fan by the way), give our UK guys time to learn wrestling and maybe we will match the US and Canadian fighters.

GSP is a skilled fighter and perhaps fighting shouldn’t be about the entertainment factor, but you know what??? It is, and there’s nothing to be done about that. People will complain about a boring performance because they spent money watching something they didn’t enjoy watching. The risk of GSP standing and trading is becoming far less than the risk of GSP taking more fights to the ground without finishing.

The problem is...

…that it WASN’T boring. It is, as Rogan put it, the meathead factor, the “just bleed” idiots, the fairweather fans who just want to see a glorified barroom brawl. These are the people who boo as soon as a fight hits the ground, or come to forums and whine that a fight was boring simply because they didn’t understand it.

I don’t know how much value the UFC puts in these people (I would hope not too much), but in the long run they are meaningless.

He’s damn near admitting he’s scared to fight another fighter in a discipline they excel at yet he is outstanding at all aspects of the game and a rival to anyone in the WW division in any aspect of the game.

He always sticks to the game plan, I just miss they dynamic GSP, not the nullifying GSP.

You have a serious hate for GSP and any decision would have been complained about by you. Don’t call what GSP does LnP, because obviously you don’t know what it is. He didn’t sit still once, he was rarely if ever in his guard, and he almost subbed him twice(both times would have been taps if this weren’t a title fight).

Dan wasn’t going to quit in his only title shot he’ll ever get. The only way GSP was going to stop him was to break something. GSP didn’t need to break something to win, he isn’t like that.

Jay, you seem a cool guy, but...

if you think that two significant attempts at ending the fight (both failed), over a 25minute period of complete control over the fight, effective let alone entertaining… then you are living in dream land. I was genuinely shocked at how little Georges seemed to try and finish, he didn’t look gassed, he didn’t ever look hurt, he was just totally ineffective when it came to actually pulling the trigger and hurting Dan. He couldn’t pull off the subs, and in all complete open honesty, if you watch it back, Fitch’s GnP actually looked better and more effective than GSP’s. I beleive you’ve also said on here that the difference between what GSP did last night and what Guida, Fitch etc. do is that he passes and gains position etc. fact is Jay, regardless of whether they’re in mount or in gaurd, if no damage is done then the end result is the same.

All the BJ taint lickers are pissed because yet another welterweight was able to go the distance with GSP, while BJ nearly had his career ended. He doesnt have to change his style to please you or what you think fighting should look like.

it has nothing to do w/ bj

it’s that gsp is no where near exciting as he used to be, when he actually mixed his skills together. remember the first 2 hughes fights? that is the gsp people want to see. last night he did not throw one punch with any intention.

It won't happen every fight wand.

Hardy is ONLY good at striking(he’s not even that good at that) so GSP didn’t let him strike at all. Remember when Dan Hardy said " I hope it goes 5 rounds because I will touch his chin in that 25 minutes and GSP will sleep" Well it went 25 minutes and Dan Hardy didn’t land a single thing. He is killing people and he is dominating them like no one else can, yet all these dudes are complaining?

OK ja, we know that you are a huge Penn fan but at least GSP has the class to admit that he was not impressed with his performance last night.

Can that be said for your fighter, or any other fighter that won? We know the story behind Penn so we won’t re-live that here for the 1000th time, but how about Silva vs Leites or Cote???? Those certainly were not dazzling by any extent and they still consider AS to be one of the top P4P fighters out there. I too was disappointed by GSP last night as I wanted a finish SOOOOO BAD!!! But then again, seeing how Hardy was morally defeated even after the 3rd rd made me feel better.

Every fighter has a night off – I just hope that GSP doesn’t listen to Jackson in the corner the next fight and he goes for broke.

Kudos to this comment!

Tai_Guy, I couldn’t agree more. If GSP wasn’t so respectful and such a spiritual martial artist he definitely would have snapped Hardy’s arm/shoulder. I saw the same thing. Now the haters are going to jump all over that, but man I don’t think it’s necessary to snap someones arm either. I’d be happier with my choice to torque a guys arm for him to tap, then snapping it and forcing him out of the fight game for a long time. Snapping Hardy’s arm would have caused all the haters to trash Georges as well, it’s a lose/lose situation.

Either you like GSP’s style or you don’t. Good thing this is MMA and not K-1 and GSP is the best all around MMA fighter out there.

And anderson wants to fight heavyweight! 2 weight classes above his norm because he wants to challange himself.

if george doesn’t move up fitch and alves and probably hardy will just keep knocking off every other contender and george will be decisioning guys those three over and over. Thats no legacy, thats no legacy at all. I believe gsp when he says he wants to be the best. sooner or later he’ll realize he cant be the best staying at 170 fighting the same guys over an over.

Actually have you seen how much AS weighs. Why wouldn’t he want to fight the smaller heavy weights, he weighs naturally as much as them, and is much faster and more skilled then them. I think it would be easier for him to win at HW compared to LHW. The skill level is lower in HW than any other weight division.

Moving up to MW

Adam, I beg to differ. I think GSP does quite well at middleweight. In fact, I would like to see that happen too. I think he takes out Vitor, Hendo and Wand in fact. Anderson Silva however, would demolish GSP. He’s just too big and too technical of a fighter for GSP to handle at this point in his career.

The P4P list is a joke. There are so many variables and so few people to prove it. No fighter starts at lightweight and moves up consistantly through each division, so there will always be a debate. GSP, BJ, Silva, Fedor, Machida are all good candidates, but it’s too debatable. Let’s stop arguing about a P4P list as each nuthugger will jump behind their fighter and the arguements will never end.

GSP Boring? Come on guys, get real!

GSP is exactly the opposite. He’s constantly working for better positions, sub attempts or effective strikes when needed.

I laugh at everyone that says he’s a Lay N Prayer. Are these the same guys that are going to bitch about a striker never attempting to take it to the ground?

Strikers never get bagged on for keeping it standing, so why should GSP get bagged on for taking it to the ground where he clearly can outmatch his opponent?

Fitch, now that guy is boring. Yes he’s a great fighter and tough as hell, but he does lay and pray.

Rumour is Semtex vs GSP if Daley gets past Kos. Problem is Daley’s ground game is garbage and it will end up with the same result. GSP by total domination and the haters will bash away unless GSP stops him.

Gsp shouldn't be apologizing to anyone...

Unlike Fitch, he did actually try to finish this fight quite a few times, and the reason he didn’t finish the fight is pretty much because of how insane Dan Hardy is. I almost guarantee any other fighter in that division would’ve tapped eventually. And yeah, boring? He’s far from it, best takedowns in the UFC. A few other musings:

He should fight winner of Daley vs Koscheck

He would beat Anderson silva

Fitch doesnt deserve a shot until he proves something

Dan Hardy is one of the toughest dudes out there and should fight Alves or Fitch next.

Atleast fitch tried to mount some offense in that fight instead of just being a human takedown bag. It seems to me like dana white just does not like fitch.

Possibly

Fitch feels like he and Kos are the greatest thing since sliced bread and no one else should get a shot at GSP besides them. Even though GSP handed both of them their asses on a platter. I can see if he totally revamped his style and thought this new style was GSP Kryptonite but nothing has changed since the last time he was pummeled. It’s not a matter heart, it’s a matter of reality

The fight wasn’t too bad for a one sided beat down. At least GSP really tried to finish the fight and that’s all I ask for. Props to hardy, he’s tough as nails.

Real

The truth, like fighting, is sometimes just plain, boring and ugly. The important thing is coming out on top. Georges should try focusing on breathing techniques before a fight, as this helps calm my nerves. I also like to yell a battle cry to harden my nerves. You can tell when you your explosive technique is right because you can feel the energy or vibration travel right through from your feet all through your joints and through your hands. Be relaxed and explode like some1 touched u with a hot spoon. The shock should even be felt at the back of your head. GSP let Hardy off and didn’t take Hardy’s arm home with him, then was honourable enough to say he needed to correct his JJ technique. True Champ

'then was honourable enough to say he needed to correct his JJ technique. '

I meant instead of showing hardy up and saying I let u off, he blamed his own technique. Thats what I call a true warrior. I love BJ for his raw talent, but GSP has a maturity that exceeds him. BJ still my number 1 tho

That is not what impressed me

I like that after the fight was over he told Dan you did a hell of alot better than i did in my first title shot. George is all class for sure.

ALL CLASS

NO BALLS, well more balls than anyone who’s not a cage fighter or in the marines, but less ball than any other cage fighter

Wall of Text

1. A piece of writing that does not use proper grammar and generally looks like a giant essay with 20 to 400 sentences without using paragraphs or any bit of spacing at all.

2. A paragraph written, usually on an internet forum, that is usually very long, has little or no punctuation and is very stressful on the eyes.

3. A massive, and terribly formatted post or write up. Your eyes might bleed from trying to read it.
