UFC releases Eliot Marshall and Shanon Gugerty following March 21 losses
UFC light heavyweight and former TUF-guy Eliot Marshall will reportedly join Shanon Gugerty on the unemployment line after both competitors were released from the promotion following March 21 losses at the UFC on Versus event in Broomfield, Colorado.
MMA Madness first reported the unfortunate news earlier today.
Marshall's release comes as a bit of surprise. Although he was on the wrong end of a split decision loss to Vladimir Matyushenko at last Sunday's televised event, "The Fire" put together three straight wins prior to that, starting with his Octagon debut at the Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 Finale in December 2008.
Gugerty on the other hand dropped his second in a row at the 1STBANK Center, falling to 2-3 under the Zuffa banner. He started off strong with a submission win over Dale Hartt in his UFC debut back in July 2008, but was then submitted by Spencer Fisher, Terry Etim and most recently, Clay Guida.
With Strikeforce, Bellator and DREAM all going strong, in addition to regional promotions like "Ring of Fire," it's unlikely these two talented fighters will remain on the sidelines very long.

Sucks to be Marshall
Vlad Mat is a serious fighter with a wealth of experience and a good record…. think it’s really harsh “The Fire” got cut. TUF back story, team assosiation and hadn’t lost in the UFC prior to the event.
Marshall is Boring
I actually like Marshall, good guy, good fighter, but in his fights with Bader (on the show), Brilz and Vlad, he was extremely boring to watch…The UFC loves money so much they would rather have a losing fighter who puts on exciting fights than a boring fighter who wins…If Marshall would have won the show, he would have had a nice easy fight schedule, starting with Carmelo Marerra or a Bisping/Forrest lineup with Elvis Sinocic in there
