Anthony Johnson: 'Lucky' John Howard doesn't belong in the UFC

Howard-cage_medium

Props: Fight Hype

Quoteworthy:

"Howard ain't got no stand-up at all. He's lucky Roberts wasn't stronger or he probably would have gotten submitted. Howard is soft; he doesn't belong in the UFC. I will be glad to show him this if he's my next opponent. But congratulations on your win. If you fight me like that, you won't survive. You better work on that stand-up buddy!"

Injured welterweight striker Anthony Johnson was not impressed with John Howard's winning performance over Daniel Roberts at the UFC on Versus event last Sunday night in Denver. "Doomsday" survived a series of submission attempts from the newcomer before putting his lights out with a couple of vertical bombs. Still, "Rumble" thinks he was lucky to survive and promises a different result if and when these two rivals finally settle their score. Early predictions?

he's absolutely correct

Rumble may not be the top of the top yet, but boat loads of potential, and Howard was convincingly losing til’ Roberts sloppiness allowed for a FILTHY knockout. This result would not happen with Rumble.

Am with AJ here.

Howard has one only 1 fight in the UFC if you ask me and that was against roberts. Two robberies and one hail mary KO after a ridiculous standup.

I agree with AJ

Howard won’t be able to take AJ down. AJ would knock his head off.

by pamirec on Mar 23, 2010 9:50 AM EDT reply actions

dont agree

Howard is a strong up and comer. And when he beats rumble in their next fight (i know they havent announced anything yet but its obvious theyre gonna fight) its finally gonna shut him up.

by silent assassin on Mar 23, 2010 9:55 AM EDT reply actions

he absolutely would NEVER lose to Howard

I like Howard as well, but he can never beat guys other then that of Roberts like stature. He just doesn’t have the tools. This isn’t only bragging of Rumble, its also the dismissal of Howard as a serious threat.

Howard is a tough guy.

Just cause his standup insnt what Rumbles is doesnt mean he doesnt belong (and who says it isnt). I thought Howard showed some good heart not getting subbed and then turning the fight around. With every fight Howard looks better and better, honestly I think this will be a good fight and that Rumble needs to concentrate on fighting instead of talking, he got ass raped by Kos, doesnt make wieght for another fight maybe he should try harder and talk less. If these two fight I will pick Howard, he costs me money almost everytime he fights and I dont pick him.

3 factors that rumble lost to kos

1. kicked in the nuts
2.kicked in the nuts again
3. kos faked an eye poke

in essence kos is a cheat

I Hate Kos and like Johnson....

and those are 3 facts… but I think Kos was gonna win that one anyways.

Give a man to fish and feed him for a day. Kick his stupid ass and maybe he will leave you alone.

Kos didnt Fake shit...

If kos gets his ass kicked he takes it like a man and keeps on going. This guy got rocked by Alves like 3 times throughout there fight and dominated on the ground by GSP practicly througout there whole fight and rocked by Hazelett and didnt look for 1 way out so wat are you talking about. If watch the fight close you’ll see he got poked in the eye when his head was down rite b4 the knee came.

AJ has a two-year window to get his title shot at WW...

He is never gonna be able to make 170 in two-years, maybe only one. Hell, he can hardly make 170 now, but at least he doesn’t look like a corpse when weighing in (Irvin).

AJ for the EASY win, here. Howard did not impress me, Sunday.

Won't make a prediction yet

All I know is at this point this fight has to happen

by domino effect on Mar 23, 2010 10:17 AM EDT reply actions

not gonna be that easy

Howard wont be afraid to stand and bang with AJ. These two truly dont like each other cant wait for this fight

Rumble is gonna make him kiss the baby.

me either for certain

But made me laugh. Old man talk I assume, and either way he meant what should be known and that’s that Rumble would annihilate Howard on the feet. One sided.

Huh??

Dont know exatly what that means but ok

by silent assassin on Mar 23, 2010 10:26 AM EDT reply actions

Also agree

I honestly though Doomsday was doomed for a submission against Roberts, and the punch was good but fairly unconvincing.

by theworldismine on Mar 23, 2010 10:52 AM EDT reply actions

his ground game is not very good..and man he wrecked my underdog pick by KOing roberts..

i knew the only way for him to win was to sub him..but DAMN he got put to sleep bad…sigh..i think roberts will do well in the future..and howard is a little too confident for what he has displayed thus far.

by sarah- on Mar 23, 2010 11:16 AM EDT reply actions

KOS won

in all areas of that fight. The replay even showed that Rumbles glove scraped across KOS’s eye, so I don’t think it was fake at all. As far as this fight goes, I’m not sure who to call yet. Rumble’s standup is overrated in my eyes (a lot of power but no technique) and the same deal goes with Howard. I’d like to think Rumble learned a lot from the KOS fight and will come back better, therefore I would probably lean towards him due to fighting better competition.

fuck anthony johnson

If anything he needs to work on his ground game instead of talking shit about other people stand-up
