WEC Quick Quote: Brian Bowles welcomes a Miguel Torres rematch -- and another knockout to go with it

Torres_bowlese_ko_medium

"I knew that I was gonna win that night [against Miguel Torres]. I felt unbeatable going into that fight. I've never felt that good before. I was just totally calm and I was so sure that I was gonna win that I thought something was wrong because I was so confident ... I rocked his world and left him thinking about me night and day. If he wins and I win, he'll get a chance to fight me again... He may think that he's a totally different fighter now, but he's still the same fighter. Things come slow when you make changes a style you've had for so long. Another fight between us would go just like it did last time."

WEC bantamweight champion Brian Bowles is set to defend his crown against Dominick Cruz this Saturday night (March 6) from Columbus, Ohio. But before he throws down with Cruz, Bowles joined Pro MMA Radio to talk about the fight with Cruz, and of course, his stunning upset of former bantamweight kingpin Miguel Angel Torres. And as much as Torres wants to believe that a rematch would yield a different result, Bowles insists that another fight with Miguel would go down the exact same way. Is he right? Is Brian Bowles the better fighter, or did Miguel just get "caught" that night?

maybe but

Urijah not breaking his hand coulda made a difference. It was great fight, if they ever fight again I think faber takes a decision.

For what profit is it to man if he gains the world , and loses his own soul?

it will be interesting

to see if he can control himself and stick to that gameplan, or if he’ll rush in because he wants to prove he can beat Bowles down?

I forsee bad things happening if he decides to charge in again.

Bowles Should Be Careful What He Asks For

Miguel Will Beat him. Actually I think Bowles will lose this next fight. Miguel Will Win His Next Fight. Miguel Will Win BAck The Title While Bowles Wins the fight after his Loss Setting up End of The Year Rematch

dang ANS

You should be a weatherman! That’s true forecasting right there. And sounds very likely.

except i see Bowles beating him again

But that might just be my personal disdain for Torres. He was a total cocky shit when I met him.

He is Cocky.

However he is also one of the best MMA fighters to ever compete in our sport.

Miguel Torres is too mouthy

I called for bad things to come his way the instant I read his mania interview a few moments before the fight and he said he wasn’t even going to throw a jab the whole first round.

Not the words of a true champion. While you may think you’re capable of this, saying it is an instant advantage for your opponent if you follow through. And if you don’t you’re a moron for saying it. It was insulting to an undefeated opponent that he thankfully paid for.

You don’t become the best by not utilizing the tools that helped get you there.

i can't say for sure that he is better than Bowles

I don’t think i have seen enough of Bowles to deem him the lesser fighter.

Torres will whoop bowles in a rematch!

Miguel got 2 careless like Melvin manhoef did against Robbie lawler.

by d*locc on Mar 2, 2010 5:06 PM EST reply actions

I Think Lawler was more of a Lucky Heave

Bowles actually beat up Torres as he rushed in. Melvin was absolutely murdering Robbie and Robbie Off Balance threw an oevr hand

now that one i can agree on

I feel Melvin definitely takes any rematch with Ruthless. Although I really like both fighters so I’m okay with any result. Those 2 have so much heart and really seem to love to entertain. I applaud fighters of that stature, and that fight will go down with Scott Smith/Le as one of the most shocking, yet entertaining moments off Mma history to me.

Side note: throw in the back elbow from Brown on Faber as shocking victories.

Sorry, back to the task at hand. I feel Melvin definitely takes any rematch with Ruthless. Although I really like both fighters so I’m okay with any result. Ugh U Confused me For a Sec LOL

But I agree about Miguel being Mouthy. He stayed on top of the Division for so long he believed himself untouchable. But I Think he is a true Champion.

by AintNoSunshine on Mar 2, 2010 5:17 PM EST up reply actions

ha ha sorry ANS i even confused myself slightly.

Going to be a good fight for sure. I applaud the accomplishments of Miguel no doubt, but I will be pulling for Bowles, and I do like what I have seen from him both inside and outside the cage thus far.

Both threw hail marys after getting rocked

I think the rematch comes they won’t be as careless. Both were kicking ass! Wud luv 2 see either 1 of those rematches. Bowles has no easy task in front of him in dominck Cruz , shud be a gud fight also.

by d*locc on Mar 2, 2010 6:55 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Torres is/was overrated

I wasn’t surprised to see him lose, and I personally think Bowles will beat him again.

Your on crack

What is torres 37-2 or something like that after that loss. He losses once and he is overrated, I bet you said the same thing when gsp lost to serra. Torres is still a p4p beast and will come back stronger.

by mma guru on Mar 2, 2010 9:14 PM EST reply actions

Look, this guy is overconfident and that’s OK if he doesn’t let it overwhelm himself. You know, he’s on the spotlight now but just winning fights he’ll be on the top. Torres is great like fighter and person and has a respected score in MMA. What I have analyzed is that Torres hasn’t said bullshit and his statements make sense. Maybe Torres has gotten his prime while Brian is good but it has gas so much to improve.

If Miguel get a crack against Bowles and loss, do you think is it a good idea to go up the next division?

Great night Saturday. Leafs vs Senators, Duke vs NC, and a decent WEC card along with a 12 of Bud, ribs, and maybe some poker
