Biggest Rising Star In Mma, And the perfect martial artist........
"Bones Jones is the biggest rising star in mma". Numerous sources.....
As we are entering a new era in mma, an era where all fighters have to be multi disciplined, creative, have unrivaled conditioning, and be completely dedicated. My view is that a new breed of athlete is emerging.
Gone are the days where a single disciplined athlete can rule the roost, the term "well rounded" has never been more prevalant than it is today, the UFC currently has multi skilled disciplinarian's as Lyoto, BJ, Georges, and Anderson,(in no particular order),and the simple unobliterated raw power of Brock and Carwin, (did i say multi disciplined???)........ Strikeforce has Gegard, Diaz and Fedor, WEC has Aldo etc etc, the list is endless.....
You could argue that mma has already entered the era of the super athlete, (which it obviously has, so its not an argument), but the thought behind this post is to distinguish between the current, and the future.
And apart from the above contradictions, who will, and who won't be the next big thing...........
The heavyweight division is the most interesting, because all of the other weight classes are ruled by technique, skill and athleticism, but the heavyweight division is ruled by pure power, i'm sure as alot of you would agree, that Brock, Carwin or Duffee, wouldn't do as well if they were competing against guys there own size, for example, can anyone see Brock competing with a Spider that cut 20lb to make 265......
Anyways, thats besides the point........
Who is the next big thing in mma? Who is flying under the radar? Who will blow our minds?
(women included).......

Tyron Woodley!!!
This guy is the total package. Phenomenal wrestling, pinpoint striking, great submission game and relentless pace. He will be someone’s champion by 2012.
I like Jones the 85 inch reach and wrestling ability is custom made for MMA
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
whoa, does he really have 85 inch reach?
That’s more than Lesnar! I think Johnny’s gonna be in for a shock when he starts fighting the top talent. He’s got all the tools, but if he tries to pull some of those flashy moves against top guys, he’ll quickly learn why nobody else uses them. Like I said, the kid’s got all the tools, he just needs some maturity and experience to become a truly great fighter. Win or Lose, Vera will be the first step on that road for Jones.
Duffy has logged 6 seconds in the Octogon
by no means does his name belong in this discussion! Give it a rest people, we know nothing about this kid. He’s seconds out of “Jungle Fights” and hasn’t even fought a mid-level UFC fighter yet. He could just be a very brief flash in the pan.
How about Cain and JDS? Those are names worth mentioning. Anthony Rumble Johnson is in a similar boat with Jones…just needs some maturity.
I agree with Cain and JDS
i think johnson is gonna have no other choice but to move up to middleweight. In mw i don’t think he could use his strength along with his decent wrestling against bigger better wrestlers.
Some men are alive simpley because it is against the law to kill them
Here is my picks
Eddie Alvarez will break into one of the big shows.
Terry Etim has all the tools to go along with his experiance in the ufc.
John Hathway a brit with good wrestling who would of thought it?

I'm pretty sure there will be a "Bones Jones Era" sometime in the future.

Yes there will be - I'd even say by 2011.
Hey - who cuts your hair?

Who knows, maybe it begins tomorrow.

that's what they said about Vera
And Arlovski, and Belfort (several times), and Baroni, and Mir, and Kerr. All of them were once believed to be the next big thing, the future of their division, or the next stage in the evolution of the sport…yada yada yada.
Bones has looked amazing, but he hasn’t accomplished anything amazing yet. I think the kid has amazing gifts and great potential, but he’s still got a lot to prove before I start predicting that he’ll have his own era. Even if he beats Vera we won’t know how he stacks up against TOP 10 guys, let alone Machida.
