DREAM 13 announces Josh Barnett vs 'Mighty Mo' to complete March 22 fight card

Barnett-new-robot_medium_medium

Former PRIDE star and Affliction grim reaper Josh Barnett (24-5) will officially make his return to competition against Siala "Mighty Mo" Siliga (3-1) at the upcoming DREAM 13 event on March 22 in Yokohama, the promotion announced today.

Stateside fans can catch all the overseas action at 3 a.m. ET on HDNet.

Last summer, Barnett tested positive for steroid during the pre-fight drug test ahead of his highly anticipated showdown with Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction: "Trilogy."

The subsequent denial of his license to fight in California wreaked havoc on the floundering T-shirt company, prompting not only the cancellation of the "Trilogy" event, but also the demise of it's MMA division.

Since then, his quest to regain license to fight in California has become a prolonged ordeal. Last month, his appeal of the denial of license was delayed for the fourth time, further complicating the legal burden on his fighting career.

Meanwhile, he has kept himself busy with pro-wrestling gigs with Inoki Genome Foundation and participation in several No-Gi grappling competitions.

Star-divide

Barnett's signing with DREAM comes as no surprise: Given his name value in Japanese MMA and pro-wrestling, laxity toward the use of performance enhancing drugs in Japan, and stigma he has incurred in the US, DREAM has loomed as a logical destination for him. Also, the rumored signings of Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia to DREAM and the ongoing alliance between DREAM and Strikeforce will present him a few potential big matches.

Siala "Mighty Mo" Siliga, last fought a MMA match at Dynamite!! 2008 against Semmy Schilt. The Samoan kickboxer and boxer known for his devastating overhand right, has crushed three tomato cans before suffering his first loss in MMA against Schilt.

It looks like the second loss in MMA is forthcoming: Despite more than a year and half away from competition, formerly top-ranked Barnett is beyond what a MMA neophyte like "Mighty Mo" is capable of handling, save a puncher's chance.

Here is the complete DREAM 13 fight card:

Josh Barnett vs. Siala "Mighty Mo" Siligia
Cole Escovedo vs. Yoshiro Maeda
Bibiano Fernandes vs. Joachim Hansen
Kuniyoshi Hironaka vs. Katsunori Kikuno
Andre "Dida" Amade vs. K.J. Noons
Ryo Chonan vs. Andrews Nakahara
Jimmy Ambriz vs. Ikuhisa Minowa

Good card. Let’s see how the Baby Face comes back. If he wins, maybe Fedor’s next. I wanted this fight for much time but nowadays I see Fedor beating hands down. The layoff certainly affect the performance of the figher.

Mighty Mo just needs a glancing clip but

he gets taken down and leglocked here in the first two minutes. Even with the layoff, their skill levels in wrestling and the mat is too different.

WOW-WEEE!

WOW, am I excited about this big MMA weekend!

Tonight is the LIVE XFC 10 card (3 hrs) on HDnet. Undefeated Jason "The Ironman" Wood squares off with reigning XFC featherweight champion "Wild Card" Jarrod Card for the title. Champ Jarrod Card has beaten multiple WEC veterans. Watch out for 23 year old Christopher “Beast Boy” Barnett. Not even in the UFC, have I seen a heavyweight move like the dynamic Beast Boy. At 265 lbs, he moves like a 150lb olympic gymnast/boxer/wrestler! You just have to see this kid move around – it’s shocking. The “Beast Boy” will fight Xtreme Couture’s Jay White.

Also Tonight, On HDnet: “Inside MMA” features Dan Henderson
-———————
Then Sunday is UFC on Versus 1, LIVE (2 hrs)
-———————-
Then Monday LIVE on HDNet: DREAM 13. All seven fights will be televised live from Yokohama Arena, Yokohama, Japan on HDNet at 3AM EST. DREAM fights are true events and are a blast to watch in HD.

The DREAM Featherweight Title on the line with Champ Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandez (ranked #4 in the world) vs. Joachim “Hellboy” Hansen who is dropping down to this weight class for the first time. Former EliteXC champ K.J. Noons who recently signed with Strikeforce after taking an MMA sabbatical to compete in pro boxing, takes his first fight in nearly two years when he meets Andre Dida. This card also features Josh “The Babyfaced Assassin” Barnett who will fight Siala “Mighty Mo” Siligia. The always fascinating Ikuhisa “The Punk” Minowa, or as some call him Minowa-Man, will fight Jimmy “The Titan” Ambriz. (4.5 hrs!)

Here’s an MMA on TV calendar I created for the coming months! I want MMA mania to make one like it:

Lets hope Mo wins by vicious KO, that leads to some sort of injury that will prevent Barnett from fighting again

Just looking at his face pisses me off, cheating scumbag take your saggy steroid titties and fuck off!

Wonder if diddy sponsors him.

I still wanna see the fedor fight, also wanted to see an arlovski fight

I used to like Josh

but since he has been caught cheating my attitude towards him has changed. Honestly if you get once you should be thrown out of the UFC or MMA all together, which ever org. you belong to.

I only have a problem with it because it's banned

The man just can follow rules like everyone else. Three strikes is definitely grounds for a BAN IMO. But hey we can’t expect commissions to do their jobs. In japan he has a name in wrestling so he can always make $ out there and that market is so secluded from the rest of the world – they don’t know about this. A newspaper tried to bring out the scandal and there was heat there for a little bit but now it’s died down. He’s talented too though his resume doesn’t reflect it. The fact that he wanted promotions to come at him “correct” was also a WTF!? as if he just hadn’t recked any sense of credibility that his name brought. Why the fuck would any promotion take on such a liability who added to that isn’t a big star, doesn’t bring a marketable look and has an inflated record.

As far PEDs themselves in combat sports – i say they’re the same thing as any other supplement you take. You do it to get stronger, train harder, recover faster. So because they work better they should be banned? Fn hypocracy- just get it properly administered by trained professionals and end the nonsense. It’s not like it teaches you how to fight and in the end fighting is a technical sport.

When Josh took out Affliction I could have chocked him with my bare hands…for real.

But, even though I am able to watch 10 LIVE MMA cards a month on TV, I want more.

There is a lot more on this card than Josh anyways, see my WOW-WEEE post above.

Who cares about Josh Barnett….he’s an over the hill has been and means nothing to the MMA world anymore.

by N8dogg007 on Mar 19, 2010 1:11 PM EDT reply actions

Think....

Saying that 33 years old is over the hill in this game is just dumb. Before all the Affliction stuff happened he was ranked in the top 10, perhaps top 5.

Maybe you never saw him fight. Frankly Josh would turn Brock Lesnar inside out.

HAHAHAHA

That’s laughable. Tell me another one!

Seriously though…Let’s be honest with eachother. What I said isn’t dumb and has nothing to do with his age. Granted he was a greater fighter in his day, but things have since evolved and he hasn’t. If Jeff was worth a shit he’d be in the UFC.

I give a crap!!

He was supposed to Fedor but instead he cheated, got caught and sank the whole org. not to mention we did not get to see that fight. Fedor was out a fight (he isnt getting any younger), I feel as though we all lost on that deal, just because Of Josh Barnett, he needs to be thrown out of MMA!!!

by HEELHOOK on Mar 19, 2010 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions

i hate that pic

Fedor invented a language that incorporates Sambo and Kimuras.

So next time FEDOR is kicking your ass, don't be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.
