Gegard Mousasi, Renato 'Babalu' Sobral, Sokoudjou confirmed for DREAM light heavyweight Grand Prix
DREAM previously announced that it will crown champions in every division from featherweight to heavyweight in 2010.
A light heavyweight Grand Prix consisting of eight participants is expected to kick off at DREAM 15 in May. Several sources, including MMA Fighting and Bloody Elbow, indicate that former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, Renato "Babalu" Sobral has officially signed on to compete in the tournament. Also, the current Strikeforce light heavyweight champion and DREAM middleweight Grand Prix winner, Gegard Mousasi will indeed throw his hat in the ring, as he has previously hinted.
Furthermore, DREAM officials have confirmed that Sokoudjou is the third confirmed participant in the tournament: Already, the entire tournament is shaped around Mousasi, as he has defeated Babalu and Sokoudjou before and is the lone non-UFC light heavyweight to crack the top ten ranking.
Given the dearth of top-caliber light heavyweights outside UFC, Mousasi will very likely be the prohibitive favorite. Nevertheless, DREAM has a track record of recruiting undiscovered gems (i.e. Joe Warren, Marius Zaromskis) that have had surprisingly strong runs in its GPs. Thus, it will be interesting to see which prospects the promotion can excavate this time around.

This is the reason I don't see Mousasi signing with the UFC.
But maybe the fighting in the UFC will make him forget about fighting in Japan.
But a true champion, face to face with his darkest hour, will do whatever it takes to rise above. A man fights, and fights, and then fights some more. Because surrender is death, and death is for pussies. - Kenny Powers
I am not too worried.
Super elite fighters will always eventually land in the UFC. It’s not like he can talk to the UFC as long as he’s tied with strikeforce so until that contract runs out, he might as well get as many fights in as possible. Really i would prefer it if he did more K-1 bouts or tried pro boxing since really no one intriguing outside of the UFC for him.

he'd fight at 185 in ufc anyways
…so I don’t see why everyone all of the sudden thinks there’s some never ending line up of awesome fights in ufc for him. There’s Andy, Belfort, and maybe one of Nate or Chael.
Then what? Andy will be gone and Moussasi and Belfort fight over and over? Marketting and ufc hype is the reason we believe that the MW class is ‘stacked’ in ufc. Truth of the matter is its not that much more special then SF’s. Take away Andy. And for some ppl Belfort (although I’m not sold on him or chael) and we’re left with mediocrity.

The only way that Gegard doesn't win this is if he gets bored and pulls out again
Babulu and Soko can’t touch him. Other than Mo there aren’t many good LHWs outside the UFC, Mousasi should have no problem winning another GP.
"Not a lot of professional sports down here (in Australia)"
"We just had our best season (of TUF) last season and it was season 10"
"Nogueira is probabaly the best HW of all time"
Dana White, proving that he's clueless about Australian sports, has never heard of Fedor and is still trying to hype up TUF 10.

Gegard is winning so many fights, I keep feeling like he's due for a loss.
I’d hate for that loss to come against an arrogant douchefuck like King Mo, but damn, I’ll be worried about Mousasi getting KO’d in that fight.
But as for Soko and Babz, I really dont think Mousasi would lose, even if he fought them 5 times apiece.

Don't be afraid 2 feel King Mo will beat Mousasi...
King Mo may not have all the tools most people (especially the people on this site) feel are necessary to beat Mousasi… The proper term for this would be “underdog”…
We kan not over look what the facts are; King Mo kan take Mousasi down and is explosive enough to finish the fight, via GnP, once it gets there… I’m assuming King Mo has good enough submission defense given his training partners (Lister, Mayhem, etc)… These FACTS give King Mo a more than reasonable road to victory (if he takes that road) in this fight… Anyone who argues these facts dont know SHIT bout the fight game and or is playing it safe by riding the Mousasi (beef) wagon…
Don’t worry bout what everyone else thinks…

Gayhard's UFC contract is going to be huge
and he might get an instant title shot after he dominates this tournament.
if he goes to ufc.
Sure hope he doesn’t.

will there be anyone Mouassi HASN'T already beaten in the tourn?
Fedor invented a language that incorporates Sambo and Kimuras.
So next time FEDOR is kicking your ass, don't be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.
Dam
THIS IS what Im talking about a tourney. This is the main reason why i miss PRIDE that and the Soccer Kicks.
THe only problem with this tourney is that THER ARE NO UFC fighters… and its known that the UFC has the BEST LHW DIvision PERiod…. HOW off the hook would that be if the UFC did something like this and included everyone WOWOW or Vice Versa THAT is where i hope MMA is going to be like in Future years
Wayne Gretsky, Michael Jordan, Joe Montana, Muhammed Ali, FEDOR EMELIANKO
John G
Are you doing the under card picks post for Versus? I somehow missed the last one so I need to get back in the W column
My dream match-up to see
BJ Penn vs Nick Diaz!!!!! Would only be unreal
jay does that...not John

really ???
i don’t get why this guy is so great?? IMO he didn’t look that great against soko and really who has he beaten??? he far from has an impressive list of “victims”
but hey he trains with fedor so he has to be good hahahah yeah right both overrated can crushers if you ask me
King Mo taking this one
ya but you openly hate STRIKEFORCE
…and its evident in every post you put up. So your opinion is hard to take into consideration.
Its like me saying a book is stupid, then wrapping up my points by saying “But I hate all books and reading”. Why listen to me then? I would hate it anyways.

he has demolished everyone he's fought and was the underdog in the whole Dream MW tourny
then to move up in weight and handle Babalu in less time than Chuck did both times. yeah not that impressive.

yeah babalu
who else is on that impressive list???? come on he has what 25 fights name ten top contenders
Hector Lombard (when Mousasi was 21 years old) Evangelista Santos, Denis Kang, DongBar, Manhoeff, Jacare (underdog in the last 5), Hunt, Sobral (which many people picked to win), Soko. He was 23 or 24 when he fought those guys. 28-2-1 at 25 years old with only 2 decisions, and 2 world titles and a GP Champ to go with it.
Stop hating Dragon.
and who has King Mo beaten? Mike Whitehead. very impressive.

that's where you are wrong
i do not hate strikeforce
i hate the matchups they make
example given Overeem and rodgers?? WTF
rodgers is coming of a loss and is fighting the champ? yet the have the “all time” great fedor and are putting him against werdum?? switch it up fedor overeem roders werdum winner gets winner
makes alot more sense to me to do it that way
