'Rampage' Jackson vs Rashad Evans grudge match official for UFC 114 on May 29

Ufc96_10_rampage_vs_jardine_025_medium

It's been talked about, hyped, analyzed, and scrutinized.

Now it's official.

The long anticipated bout between The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 10 coaches Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and "Suga" Rashad Evans was formally announced by the UFC today as the headlining contest for UFC 114, which is set to go down on May 29 from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Of course, "Suga" Rashad was originally booked to settle his differences with the Tennessee native in the main event of UFC 107 on Dec. 12 following his return to the reality show franchise as a coach at war with Jackson in the heavyweight season populated with big bellies and behemothic beards.

Unfortunately "Rampage" didn't stick to the script.

That's because Jackson was cast as "B.A. Baracus" in the upcoming theatrical remake of "The A-Team," which filmed in Vancouver on a two-month commitment, effectively preventing him from being fully prepared to compete in front of his hometown crowd of Memphis for the first time ever inside the Octagon.

Star-divide

White blasted the former light heavyweight champion for bailing on the bout, which was understandable considering the entire season of TUF 10 was built around his Dec. 12 showdown with Evans.

Fortunately for fight fans, D.W. was willing to overlook his past difficulties with Jackson to cash in on a grudge match with Evans while there is still some relevancy to their feud.

The UFC initially targeted a tentative May 1 date for their clash at UFC 113 in Montreal. But because the UFC 113 fight card is stacked to the gills with a bevy of great match-ups, the Rashad Evans (14-1-1) vs. Quinton Jackson (30-7) contest was moved to UFC 114 on May 29 in Las Vegas.

UFC 114 is also expected to feature a co-main event between fan favorite Forrest Griffin and former Pride FC star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

Keep it locked to MMAmania.com for more news on UFC 114 as it breaks.

Going for Rashad all the way!!!!

I lose a lot of respect (and I know it’s a personal thing) when a guy says they are only doing it for the money.

Really wow! I had no idea that everything comes down to money!

Did you know there are guys out there who really love the sport and fight at the same time. That must be mind blowing to you. Like how some people go into a profession they love and make money at the same time… WOOOOW!!! If you don’t like MMA then don’t fight. Did you notice how I said “(and I know it’s a personal thing)” because I know some people don’t care. They cheer for guys regardless of how they much that fighter enjoys doing the sport and I am just not one of them, I would much rather cheer for the guy who has some passion for MMA… WOOOOOW!!!! I must be a dipshit for that!

He’s guna say ring rust is the reason Rashad beat the piss out of him! & his record is really 26-11. Ninja, linland, bustamonte, & hendog won 3 out of the 5 rounds they fought!

I thought Rashad had a small chance.

But after seeing him struggle and look bad against Thiago i see no way for him to take this one. He is much smaller than Rampage and is weaker so there won’t be any takedowns here from his side.

both are going to be super motivated, no question.

there's still something so unifying about sport in it's purest form, when athletes rise above themselves and touch greatness and in doing so remind us all that we also have greatness inside of us.

Rashad is strong for his size.

He won TUF at heavyweight and he was the smallest guy there. He had no problem taking opponents down, and I do not see him having a problem with Rampage. Rampage may be biggger and stronger, but Rashads strength is underrated because of his size. He is more explosive with his take downs, and looking at what Rampage did to Jardine when they when to the ground, I definately think this is where Rashad will win the fight. I know he went the distance with Henderson, but as far as I’m concerned you are only as good as your last fight. Should be a good one.
I wouldn’t normally be bothered who wins this, but I am rooting for Rashad purely because of all the unjustified crap he gets from all the haters. There have been many instances icluding the way he celebrated after knocking out Chuck, but the big deal made out of his split second crotch grab was the worst, even though everyone could see it wasn’t an issue with Forrest. Brock can do whatever he wants, and its no big deal, Mir wants to commit the first octogan related death, and its not a problem and Dana should leave him alone and stop picking on him, Rashad coughs and he should be given the death penalty.

Agreed on Rashad getting too much stick

I’ve really grown to like the guy. The crotch grab was hilarious.

As for the fight I see Rashads speed being the difference. Rampage has the better power but at times his boxing looks too slow. He’s too stationary and it’s making him predictable. If Rashad can use leg kicks to soften up Rampage and mix up his footwork and feints with quick takedowns then he should be able to win a decision.

Rampage needs to take his fight and career seriously or else he won’t beat any top guys.

Rampage is predictable…Rashad is not. That’ll be the biggest difference in this fight.

Rampage knows Rashad is going to try and take him down, the world knows that.

Rashad is predictable, and it has nothing to do with this fight or any other fight for that matter.

Rampage is gonna do what he does best and so is Rashad. I’ve never seen Rashad land any good legkicks or a good jab so the stick and move strategy seems whack + I haven’t seen any of Rashad’s incredible “speed” to me he looked tired and relatively slow against Thiago Silva, he may still win over Rampage it’s not impossible but i think he will be too small and at a big disadvantage standing.

there's still something so unifying about sport in it's purest form, when athletes rise above themselves and touch greatness and in doing so remind us all that we also have greatness inside of us.

Rashads only real chance I think is...

smothering Rampage like he did Thiago. Rampage is the better boxer, has more power, has the hardest head in mma (him or BJ anyway), and stronger. Rashad may have been the smallest guy when he won the show, but mma has grown by leaps and bounds since he was on the show. When he won the show dry humping for 15 minutes was still a legit way to win a fight! While Rashad may be the better wrestler, Rampages wrestling and strength will be enough to keep it at a minum. From there it will just be a matter of time till he connects and makes Rashad crumple like all the zones in a Volvo!

As far as him taking so much shit, I am confused! Brock and Mir both got disciplined by Dana and where forced to give public apologies. I’d imagine some of the shit he gets (I know for me anyway) is that he is so amazingly arrogant and really has no real top tier wins on his record. He is a top 5 LHW and has only a Rampage broken Chuck on his resume top put him there. He barely got by Bizzzping(and as much as I hate The Bizzz I thin he was gifter that because of the Hammil fiasco), had a draw with a haven’t won a fight(Against anyone but Shamrock) since 06 Tito, and a huge win over Forrest the Lion hearted! Looking at what I just wrote I Actually cant see how RAshad wins this fight!

Maybe the X factor will be wrestling. Rashad has great wrestling at 205 and Rampage hasnt shown alot of his in a long while.

titonash and roberto (sorry my reply option isnt working so i have to reply down here)

Im not knocking rampage by saying he’s on the downside of his career. He is smart for realizing that after 37 professional fights (7 losses) he is closer to the end of his career then the begining. Im not saying he isnt still one of the best in his division but i am saying he is past his peak and imo he gains a lot of weight between fights (you saw his fat ass down under) and that weight is becoming harder and harder to lose. He also has landed his first major film role and is smart enough to recognize opportunity when he see’s it (this is why the fight was delayed) he knows that the promotion of this movie is key to his future, so forgive me when i beleived him when he said he was hoping to crossover to acting. this is his chance and i beleive it will interfere with his camp. All he has going for him is his hate for rashaad which i beleive is canceled out by rashads hate for him….

he hasnt had a big win since henderson in 07, the win over wandi is suspect in my eyes as the punch had a little luck with it, i beleive someone pointed out up top on this thread that he threw it while looking at his feet, also i beleive wandi is on the downside of his great career. the win over jardine means nothing and the loss to forrest is embarrasing.

If you are both rampage fans then you probably appreciate his humor and acting ability from the old pride days and like me you beleive he had a good shot at making money in hollywood, beleive me he beleives it and imo he is going to be distracted going into a fight 2 weeks before the biggest movie of his life premiers…

Rampage will win this fight ....

…… its just a matter of how and when . Rampage has the advantage in the stand up game , a huge advantage . His punching power and precise shots will catch Rashad at some point . Thiago almost got him in the third round when he was gassed out so really whats Rampage gonna do when he catches square ?! And you guys thought the Lyoto KO of Rashad was bad , just wait Page will pound this fool out .

As for many saying Rashads wrestling is better have you ever watched a PRIDE fight ? Page won fights with his wrestling early on in his career . But is his wrestling better than Rashads …. no their about even in that category . Rashad nor Rampage will submit anyone but I think Rampage has proven his wrestling skills aginest better competition , like say Dan Henderson , one of the best Greco Roman wrestlers in MMA . So the ground game is a wash .

And one final point to DREWMONEY$$$ , Rashad has only lost once in 19 tries yes , but Rampage has won 30 and dropped only 7 ( really 6 the Forrest fight was a horrid judging mistake ) . Page has had more fights and has had to fight some of the worlds best with only weeks to prepare ( Shogun fight in Pride 2 weeks training , both Wandy fights 2 weeks to prep ) and did he turn the fights down ….. hell no ! Rashad is just like the rest of the TUF fighters overhyped and overrated , a product of the Dana White good ole boy hype machine . Just like Forrest , Diego , Florian and others . They all have talent just not enough to go toe to toe with the best of their weight class .

i agree with you on the dana hype to an extent

I think forrest had a lot of people fooled for a long time, but page shpuldnt have let it go to decision. You guys act like rashads got no chance, just check the odds, this is a very close fight, rashads got better odds then carwin does. I am not a page hater but I’m not blind either, just look at where he is in his life. He’s had a long career and is about to take a legit shot at hollywood, its not hard to believe that he might be distracted during his camp. I think rashad, diego, and kflo are all legit fighters and some of the best to come out of tuf so I wouldn’t have picked them for a dadn hype example.

I met Sugar Rashad at UFC110.

I met Sugar at UFC110.

I was at a a really quiet 110 after party where there were no UFC fans except for myself, my bro Zman, and my buddy Benny; & a UFC entourage of Sugar, Joe Rogan and Gray Maynard and a few other guys. We were so stoked and we’re hoping for a hello & a handshake. Gray actually came up to us and was really great. We all walked up to Joe & Sugar on the night hoping for a handshake a smile and literally 2 words/2 seconds. We were really not crowding them just taking a rare opportunity to shake hands with some guys that we really respect. Long story short, Joe and Sugar were both so overly dismissive it was pathetic. They were litterally standing at the bar too, so we weren’t crowding them having a meal or with their family or anything like that. They were just mad rude. All three of us, me my brother and Benny are all solid fit guys too, well presented and no odd, groupie weirdos.

Never rated Rogan at all and saw the deranged Machida Rua call coming from a mile off. Loved Sugar and the dude has crushed me :-). Rooting for Rampage now and I never thought i’d do that. Gray Maynard is a really good guy. He chatted about the Diaz fight and he was so dam impressive with his insights, i’ve got him all the way.

Any way, just thought i’d share that with you, have been waiting to get it off my chest for a while.

My bro was trying to get Joe’s attention for ages but to no avail, any bit of scattered ass that passed Joe was standing in for pics, autographs and whatever else but wouldn’t give my brother or his buddy the time of day, so maybe he is just an asshole unless you have T and A.
