UFC Quick Quote: Frankie Edgar is used to fighting outside -- though it usually goes down at the Jersey Shore
"It's great to be recognized by the UFC as the No. 1 contender. I put a lot of work into this. It's midnight right now and I left my house at 5:30 in the morning and I won't be home until after midnight. I work hard and I think I deserve it... By the time nighttime rolls in Abu Dhabi (the card begins at 9 p.m.) it should be a comfortable temperature... Being in the desert, it might be a little drier than I'm used to. But I'm going to go out there 10 days beforehand to adjust... I've fought outdoors before, just mostly in Seaside."
-- The challenger to UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn's crown at UFC 112, Frankie Edgar, talked to APP.com about his number one contender status and the potential obstacles that fighting outside in Abu Dhabi can present. While some people believe that Edgar isn't quite deserving of a title fight at this point, "The Answer" trusts in his abilities and feels as though the shot is rightfully his. And though UFC 112 is set to take place outdoors on April 10 in Abu Dhabi for the first time in the promotion's history, Frankie says the adjustment won't take much getting used to as he has already thrown down under the moonlight before... though most of the action has taken place in Seaside Heights. So will fighting outdoors be a problem for either guy in the lightweight title bout? And if so, who has the advantage in previous outdoor fighting experience -- B.J. Penn in his tropical paradise of Hawaii, or Frankie Edgar getting dirty at "The Shore?"

I like Edgar, great wrestling, cardio, heart, and vastly improved stand-up. Top of the LW division for sure!
too bad he has little to NO chance come 112.

Agreed.
And I like that he’s not talking shit like other contenders. I’ll be pulling for the upset but know it’s BJ’s fight.
But a true champion, face to face with his darkest hour, will do whatever it takes to rise above. A man fights, and fights, and then fights some more. Because surrender is death, and death is for pussies. - Kenny Powers
I like Frankie
He’s obviously a contender even with the loss to Maynard. He’s a class act. Once BJ gets bored and moves to WW, LW is gonna be the best division with regards to title match ups
I wanna see Frankie/Kenny fight
Agreed
If BJ takes this fight serious and trains hard for it, it should be an easy victory. Only way BJ loses is if he doesn’t train correctly.
hobbs
Bj could revert back to his old training, eat bon bons, watch hawaii 5-0 all day, and have his “yes Men” wax is bald head and he would STILL handidly give Edgar a good old fashion whoopin!
like him or not, he is just THAT good at LW.

I disagree
If BJ were to go into the championship rounds without the proper training, he could gas out. It wouldn’t be a matter of Frankie outclassing BJ, but Frankie wearing and outlasting BJ. I like BJ but cardio can defeat any fighter.
Championship Rounds
There won’t be any….

UFC lightweight division is uneventful. Only a couple of top UFC LW's finish fights anyway!
IMO, Take away BJ and it has become the UFC’s weakest division.
To many top Lw’s are fighting outside of the UFC:
El Nino
thomson
Kawajiri
JZ
Alvarez
I would rather see any of these guys fighting for a UFC title instead of:
Tyson
Edgar
Maynard
Ken flo
I wonder if they'll have the ring girls for the event.
Or will they have to wear burqas?

The stadium is somewhat outdoors. Its kinda hard to explain.
Poor Frankie..
I kinda feel sorry for Frankie cause I just don´t think there´s any way he can beat Penn and I like Edgar. I just hope he puts up a decent fight.
I REALLY want Penn to move up to 170 after this fight and test himself against some of the top contenders there. I mean, are there any exciting matchups left for him at 155?
How about
a matchup with a couple a guys outside the UFC? I hope they can get Eddie Alvarez or Shinya Aoki. Also don’t forget Gomi, if he destroys Ken-Flo, that would be a great rematch for BJ. As long as GSP is WW kingpin, I want BJ to stay at 155. I don’t need to see the rubber match for them.
we shall see
BJ,Gsp, and Anderson have one or 2 more fights to go in their weight class. Then i think all 3 should move up it would really mix things up. And if they don’t then i guess will just keep seeing them kick ass untill a new crop of fighters make their way up or they retire lol. Either way i look forward to the cards these guys fight on.

What I want to know is....
….would Frankie have popped Snookie?
War Edgar!!! I wish him the best of luck cuz he is going 2 need it !
I hope franky pulls off the upset ! I didn’t think he had a chance in hell against Sean sherk but he schooled the muscle shark! I’m hoping he’s the 1 that actually puts up a fight against bj.

BJ easy win again
/sigh can they stop with the bullshit hype and give BJ some real top guys? Halarious that Frankie actually thinks hes the #1 contender even Maynard who sucks has earned it more then he has not to say Frankie sucks but hes undersized for 155 hes actually a better fighter then Maynard but SIZE DOES MATTER.
If you dont like drugs then dont do them.....give them to me!
i think he said he wasnt ready and didnt want the fight yet
but i could be wrong

Well if BJ win this fight
I want to see him start fighting some welterweight contenders. I am not interested in any matchups at this weight. Gray Maynard is the only one left. I would like to see Gray fight Kenny.
When they asked him if he wanted to fight BJ after his lackluster performance against Diaz
He was kinda like “I’ll do whatever”, like the complete opposite of Kenny saying “I want BJ’s belt!”. But he also trained with BJ so there is obviously going to be a little weirdness, on top of the fact that I think he knows he’s not ready yet. Let Frankie get worked out while Gray works on his game. He will get there one day, and by “there” I mean a title shot, even if its after BJ is gone.
