Biggest Gripe against the UFC

I was just having a talk with a friend of mine who's not on the site and I was just curious to see what all the rest of the maniacs thought. We were talking about who has the most right to be upset with the UFC about how they've been treated. A few names that came up were Rich Franklin, for basically being a catchweight buffer for both Wandy and Vitor switching weight classes and not getting a chance to gain a foothold of his own at either LHW or MW, Cain Velazquez, for having the #1 contender fight with Carwin scrapped in favor of Shane just getting the shot at Brock (obviously it hasn't worked out that way but that WAS the original plan), and possibly Koscheck, for having yet to receive a title shot after a very solid body of work in the octagon. We ignored Rampage's complaints since he's just being a whiny baby back bitch, but if any of you guys feel as if he's got legitimate reasons for his bitching, feel free to say so. I personally think Cain has the most reason to be pissed at Dana & Co. but I was just curious to see what all you guys thought. Let the debate begin...

Agreed

Pretty much what I was going to write. The guys who have a real gripe are the up and comers who get passed over in favor of TUF vets that are at a similar or even lower level. All of these guys get paid well. And Koscheck should not be on this list. He can’t win enough fights in a row to get a shot, thats his fault. What gripe does he have exactly?

Then why did Carwin get one?

He’s only had 11 fights himself and only has one big win, Cain has had more fights in the UFC and has beaten better competition. The only reason that Cain is getting overlooked is because he’s not a shit talker, same reason that JDS got overlooked in favour of the big mouths Carwin and the Mirderer.

I voted for Cain

1. because I was caught off guard by this unexpected question.
2. because I think Cain should already be fighting Lesnar (sorry Mir fan(if such a thing exists))
3.because the other fighters on the list haven’t valid reasons to complain much about.
4. because of some other obscure reason.
5. for no reason at all

So what’s it gonna be maniacs!?

I’m just playin mike, I was just happy to see a new fanpost I felt like goofing a bit. Good question. Rec’d.

so far I don't think Nelson has been treated fairly in public or on TV by Dana

And Struve is no joke.

Fedor invented a language that incorporates Sambo and Kimuras.

So next time FEDOR is kicking your ass, don't be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.

To be fair Roy said himself that he wanted a tough fight

He shouldn’t have had to go on TUF in the first place, so I’m happy to see him get a decent test straight away. A win over Struve will help him break into the top 10 quickly, unlike most TUF winners he’s not a rookie who needs babying to start off with. He was treated terribly by Dana on that show though, the only TV time he got was having people call him fat and Dana whine about the way that he won.

I voted for Cain because Carwin got a title shot without having to fight him and now despite beating Rothwell and Big Nog since then he’s still being overlooked for a title fight and in all likelihood will have to face JDS to get the next shot, whilst Carwin and Mir only have to fight each other purely because they bitch about Brock in public.

The picks should be

Fighters
Ken Shamrock -contract dispute, lawsuit.
Matt Lindland -blacklisted for wearing unnapproved sponsors.
Yushin Okami -being overlooked.

Non-Fighters
Big John -blacklisted for Affliction work.
Tom Atencio -for running company into the ground.
Scott Coker -trying to run company into ground.

clarification

Should have probably stated that I was talking about current UFC fighters. Lindland DEFINITELY has a case to be #1 on this list if we were talking about all-time. I completely disagree with you on Okami though. I used to think that was true, however, he got manhandled by Sonnen and since then I’m a little leery of his skill level

Frank Shamrock

The guy was the original UFC MW/LHW champ, won 5 straight title fights, retired from the UFC undefeated. Then Zuffa takes over and blacklists him, essentially erases him from the history books and bans his name from ever being mentioned, excludes his phenomenal highlight-reel wins from UFC TOP 100 FIGHTS, and sues him for trying to use footage from his UFC fights (all pre-Zuffa), so he can never show himself holding the UFC title or beating the ever-loving shit out of Tito Ortiz.

To me, a fighter’s fight footage is his resume. I think it’s absurd that fighters can’t use film of their own fights to promote themselves. In Fedor’s CBS “Countdown” all they could do was show footage of him working out because Zuffa has bought up all the film rights to his fights. That’s just wrong.

THE FANS!!! FOr the BS matchmaking soley based on mAXIMIZING profit instead of merit, legitimizing the UFC as a premier SPORTS organization.

Also for UFC not providing a public ranking system so that they can justify doing whatever the fock they want instead of making performance-based match ups based on merit instead of just handing out title shots to anyone because the matchmaking clouded the entire title pictures to the point where there are no contenders that have earned the right for the title.

FYI: Fock Dana white! Stick the fokin M-1 logo on the top of the UFC poster, mention there name a few times during the broadcast of a ppv that Fedor apears on…and get THE GOD in the Octagon before he is past his prime! NEWS FLASH: M-1 was all over the strikeforce card/promo’s AND NO ONE EVEN NOTICED!!!! Media, Fans…NO ONE GIVES A SH*T!!!!! nO ONE! It will have ZERO effects on the UFC’s future…but it would give fans what they want…Bring The King to his rightful KINGDOM!!!

kos? really? He doesnt deserve anything. YOu want a title shot? Go on a focking winning streak! Inconsistent prick!

The problem with the M-1 argument John is that they took Fedor away from SF because they didn't get mentioned enough times

There’s something very shady about that organisation and the fact that they are trying to renegotiate Fedor’s SF contract after 1 fight sums up why Zuffa won’t have anything to do with them. As great as Fedor is you have to accept that his management are not behaving ethically.

thank you boyz!

David…IF the UFC inked Fedor to a contract they wouldnt have the issue’s that SF is dealing with because UFC contracts have no loop holes for fighters so M-1 wouldnt even be able to try renegotiating…..by now we all know, that you arent getting out of UFC contracts!!!!

Focking co-promote with M-1…no one gives a shit about M-1…NOT EVEN ME!!!!

by John G. on Mar 14, 2010 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

The thing is M-1 and Fedor won't agree to a contract that gives the UFC 100% control and equally the UFC won't agree to a dodgy contract full of loopholes like SF did

That’s why I don’t see either side budging, the UFC won’t go near co-promoting after the fiasco with Pride not to mention the fact that most of the companies that M-1 co-promoted with ended up going bust. On the other hand M-1 and Fedor won’t touch a UFC exclusive contract and they want the power to be able to dictate terms which isn’t going to happen with Zuffa. I doubt that either side will budge, the only chance of Fedor joining the UFC is him giving up on M-1 but I doubt that that will happen either as he ain’t the brightest bulb in the sport and he seems more bothered about remaining loyal to his management and making money through his stake in their company than in his fighting career. I’ll be amazed if Fedor ever joins the UFC.

I don't have a problem with the way the UFC management handles the match making.

The lack of a public ranking system gives them the freedom to make exciting fights based on styles and what has the potential to be an exciting fight. They’re in the business of putting togeather the best fights they can, not match guys who are as closely ramked togeather as possible. If they did it like that we would have the same thing we have in boxing where guys who are 10-0 are still fighting bums and prospects don’t get there shot until they’re past their prime. Yeah sometimes title shots aren’t as deserving as others, but the UFC tries to make the most exciting fights they can and generate the most buzz for the sport. In truth they do put fights togeather sometimes to sell PPV, but I can’t blame them. As far as M-1 goes I support the UFC staying away from those bastards. They wan’t half the profit of the event. HALF!!! That is obsurd and not how you run a business. Plus everyone who M-1 has partnered with has gone under. In no way is it a good move for the UFC to deal with those sleazy bastards. And I’m a Fedor fan. Clearly not at the same level as you John, thank god, but a fan none the less. And plus, who stands to lose more by not making a deal? Last I checked the UFC is still doing fine and Fedor, while most of it undeserving, is losing creadibility and money.

what made you pick these guys?

Franklin has always been marketed well. he’s been DW’s main man when it came to representing the sport. Franklin got his Andy rematch in Cincinnatti. He decided to move up to LHW. He’s faced top competition, no gripe here.

Cain is well-noticed with the ufc brass. who cares that carwin got the bump? they just needed a guy to fight Brock. Cain is right up there. No gripe.

Koscheck doesnt deserve a title-shot yet. The toughest guy he beat was Diego, who had a staph infection. He’s lost to Alves and PT.

Rampage? He should be thankful.

just a sample...

Other names came up, hence the “other” option. And I personally agree with you about Rampage and Koscheck. But I do feel like Ace and Cain have valid reasons to be upset. You say who cares that Carwin got the bump instead of Cain? I tend to think that Cain cared. And Franklin WAS Dana’s poster boy and has since turned into his doormat to welcome Wanderlei and Vitor into their new weight classes. But like I said if you think others should be mentioned then by all means bring them up; I know I didnt include everyone

by magicmike on Mar 13, 2010 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

Only one person comes to mind that has a reason to gripe

The list all those guys are treated right? I picked other for the only person that has not been treated right and that is Jon Fitch the UFC treated fitch badly after he wouldn’t sign with THQ on the undisputed video game. For being a top three welter weight and only losing to GSP he has been put on undercards and really under promoted on the UFC’s part even for their next upcoming fight against the only other fighter to be considered in the top three on almost every board in Alves!! That is a wicked fight and could be a main event or at least co main event. I have had little issues with the UFC and Dana but I’m against everything they have done to Fitch. If he beats Alves there is no doubt he desreves another shot but will the UFC give it to him?

Indeed.

I’d like him to fight Belfort or Sonnen, come back and defeat the winner of Fitch-Alves (or any other valuable contender) then go back and defeat Silva. Another question is will he be able to alternate between the two divisions or will he have to make a permanent move.
