UFC Primetime 'St. Pierre vs Hardy' grabs record-high one million viewers

111-primetime_medium_medium

The UFC scored a ratings bonanza for its premiere episode of "Primetime," the first of a three-part series featuring an in-depth look at the upcoming UFC 111 welterweight title fight between current champion Georges St. Pierre (19-2) and number one contender Dan Hardy (23-6).

According to the cable television network, the debut episode aired on March 10 at 10:00 pm ET on Spike TV and recorded a record-high one million viewers for a 1.1 rating overall.

In comparison, last year's "Primetime" special, constructed around the colossal UFC 94 welterweight title fight between St. Pierre and BJ Penn landed 880,000 viewers for a .73 rating.

Episodes two and three of "St. Pierre vs. Hardy" will air on March 17 and 24, respectively, while the debut episode will be replayed tonight at 11 p.m. ET.

The show was good.

Too bad they have all this build up for a one sided beatdown of a fight. They really should do these when the fight will actually be competitive.

I was disappointed it wasn't for someone other than GSP

its no secret that I’m a big GSP fan but we’ve seen him in a PT already…its a great show but I think Mir/Carwin woulda been cool too

yep...and I agreed with ya...I know he works harder than anyone and likes the club

It was, however, cool to see how much he has improved….Those jumping squats, his vertical leap, and training excercises are completely insane… I tried a few of them at the gym this am

im surprised

That GSP, Faras, and GJ allow the footage to come out before the fight – about all the power lifting new stuff

but i guess it’s a little late for Dan to respond with a change in program himself.

I want Ricardo Arona to sign with the UFC and his first fight should be James Toney. This is a win win scenario for MMA

I laughed when some posters claimed that they could do the same vertical leap in another thread. GSP is an insane athlete.

Mac, perhaps if you could see past your own sphincter

then you would see that I was merely suggesting that everybody is getting a bit hyped up on the taste of GSP’s nuts recently. If I had placed the same comment about a fighter you didn’t like, then you would have had no objection. I’m finishing work in a couple of minutes and I don’t know when I’ll next be on mania, but hopefully when I come back I won’t find I’ve been banned. please be merciful Chief.

lol...nice

stirring the shit and poking the bear is trolling…whether you like it or not…Nobody says shit to you but you stick your 2 cents in anywhere you can in an effort to “poke the bear” or “stir the shit”. Your clearly an example of someone who can dish it out but can’t take it.

Big GSP fan here too but im getting saturated with GSP content. It doesn’t help sell the card either because everyone already knows and has decided about buying GSP vs Hardy

At least GSP showed a little emotion.

He seemed mad and cockey. Which is an improvement over his typically boring self.

by BNF on Mar 12, 2010 10:55 AM EST up reply actions

I thought the exact same thing!

He is usually Mr. Nice Guy all the time, last night he didnt even smile, he did look like he had a chip on his shoulder. Thats by far the most serious I have ever seen him, he just seemed differant. I think he is going to absolutely DEMOLISH Dan Hardy. I dont think Dan understands whats going to happen in there on the 27.

by HEELHOOK on Mar 12, 2010 11:51 AM EST up reply actions

he did say something like "ohkay, we'll see Hardy"

but it’s all part of the production. the producers told him to sound pissed.

i missed it..is it worth watching tonight..

or did i really see it when it was about him and bj..guess i could get to know hardy better..i think he is a good fighter..and he does have a personality..but i don’t think he will do well against georges..

They are all pretty much the same but I would say yes, watch it.

The workouts clips are quite different… GSP’s insame athleticism is featured as always and Hardy’s decade old approach to training. Maybe I am reading too much into it but there appeared to be a significant difference in training routines…. knowing full well of course, we only see what gets edited into the show.

by DJ(MMA) on Mar 12, 2010 4:35 PM EST up reply actions

Enjoy the ride!!!

i think Dan Hardy is a cool cat, he doesn’t annoy me one bit like he seems to annoy everyone else, he is very entertaining in hyping fights…At the very worst, this will be an entertaining fight…win or lose, I think if hardy just shows up and represents himself well in the octogon then it will be worth watching. St. Pierre is a great mma fighter and is worth the money just to see perform against anyone. I am roothing for Hardy so it will be fun to be in the building and feel the energy for that fight.

Great Card, we’ve all gotten a little spoiled with mma having more than one good fight on a card to look forward too…I love both boxing and mma and I’ve dealt with so many horrible undercards for boxing, that I appreciate that I can watch every fight in a card in mma and find something captivating in each fight to keep me entertained.

I love being a fight fan right now especially with all the events in especially mma and boxing in the next month and half.

Enjoy the ride everyone!!!!

That fights barely been mentioned

I bet that fight ends up being a lot better than the 2 main events, I’m looking forward to seeing an improved Alves avenge the Fitch defeat. Shame that a significant and potentially great fight between 2 top 5 WWs has been largely ignored.

I have a bad feeling it will be identical to the first....

Word!!

Personally I thought Hardy shouldve had to have fought one of these guys first. They are the two toughest guys GSP has fought. From Marcus Davis & Mike Swick straight to GSP is quite the jump in skill level, sorry did I forget Rory Markham as well.

by HEELHOOK on Mar 12, 2010 11:57 AM EST up reply actions

agreed, but...

if Alves or Fitch beat Hardy, they would have to face GSP. It’s been done.

I also felt creeped out when they showed Hardy coming off the elevator and they just show his face and he’s staring into my soul with a smick on his face like he’s about to sodomize me…I felt dirty after seeing that.

Hardy did say some funny stuff on pt.

As for GSP’s nice guy attitude, I saw him on off the record the other day, and he said that since english is his second language he doesn’t like to get into a war of words, because he’ll always lose it. Funniest comment of the show goes to the voice over: “Dan Hardy has steamrolled his way through the welterweight division”.

I'm always thinking one step ahead. Like a carpenter . . . who makes stairs.

Perhaps Hardy should become a comic after this fight then......

Given that he has a sense of humour. Way out of his league on this fight….period. He has fought a bunch of nobody’s so far.

girlfriend!

so my girlfriend hasnt been into mma. so there is always a slight disturbance when i want to watch fights when she wants to watch ugly betty, or if i want to ditch plans with her to go watch with the boys. last night i tried a new tactic and asked her to watch prime time with me, hoping that a little background into the fighters lives and training would spark some interest for her. she really got into the show. she said she even wanted to throw a party for fight night. thank you zuffa!.
