PrintAs most of you know, I'm not a big fan of GSP, I do obviously respect his abilities and have him in the top 3 P4P, but just not a fan. From his vanilla interviews to the same suit every time he puts a suit on, I really can't find much I like about him. Calm down Canada, I do respect his fighting abilities. I also don't get how all the Canadians get so bent about my (and others) dislike of GSP, you'd think I raped your mom. You don't get people from the states solely like someone and blindly defend them just based on the fact that they are from the states. Anyways, thats not what this post is about. After watching prime time last night, I gotta admit, I like Hardy. Not to win the fight, but the man.
Before last night, Hardy was just the latest guy to have the chance to get beat by GSP, and nothing more to me. After last night, I'm kinda a fan. He is honest, seems like a hard worker and seems to surround himself with loyal guys. All things important to me! Do I give him a chance at beating GSP, not really, I feel GSP will take him down and grind out another decision win. Is there anything wrong with that? Not at all. GSP is obviously the better mmartist as well as athlete. I didn't however realize how big Hardy is, and do give him a "punchers chance."
What exactly did we learn about GSP? Nothing! He works hard and enjoys the clubs. I don't get the primetime show last night. I'd much rather see one with Mir/Carwin or even Silva/Maia, if for no other reason than that we already saw GSP in one of these, and there is nothing different. I'll admit I enjoyed the show, respect GSP's willingness to train all over and how focused he looks, but it's all been seen before. I do agree, anyone who talks shit about GSP says the same thing over and over, but since the Serra loss, has he mentally broken down? no! I don't know what more to say except I'll be rooting for Hardy, but don't see him winning!

I've liked Hardy since the first time I seen him, but I don't give him a punchers chance.
He doesn’t punch as hard as some people like to think. He was controlled for most of the fight by Marcus Davis. He couldn’t even put Marcus to sleep with his power. I think GSP is going to knock him out or tap him out in the first three rounds. Any one on here want to bet on that?

Totally different situation. 80% of the fighters in MMA are from the States. Most of the fans are from the States. Therefore, you don’t hear people hating on American fighters because of their nationality. GSP is the only truly elite Canadian MMA fighter.
Because Canada has two defined cultures, one of which is Francophone, GSP is often the target of anti-French and Anti-Canadian sentiments from both MMA fans and his opponents. I think that’s where people get defensive. Anyway, it doesn’t bother me, but if America had one high-profile fighter and he was regularly slagged for being American or having an accent or just being an all-around nice guy, it would probably start to get under your skin a little too.

not really, but I get ur point.
I had a whole topic/essay about racism or lack there of. I don’t see it like that, I’m not your typical person. I don’t see the point in being labeled “african american” and such. I would NEVER root for a fighter or anyone in anything because of where they are from. I don’t care if there are 80% fighters from U.S. or 1 fighter, I root solely on who I like! GSP is not my cup of tea, I guess my question is, would he be urs (not you personally, but canadians) if he weren’t canadian!?
He would still be in my top 3 if he weren't Canadian. The fact that he is Canadian helps some of us to relate to him I think.
We are a proud nation who stands behind all of our citizens. I hate curling and skiing but I was cheering for every Canadian at the olympics, it’s called national pride Kevin. We have it in spades up here.

Yeah, I’d be a big fan regardless, although I tend to prefer striker-first guys because of my own experience in that aspect of the sport. I just understand it better than the ground game, which I am improiving my knowledge of.
He epitomizes a lot of the things I really like about the sport, the respect and work ethic, and the all-out excellence of continuously challenging yourself and answering the bell. People can say whatever they want, NOBODY in the top P4P lists has faced the consistent level of competition in their career that Georges has.
We also need trash-talking douchebags in the sport as well. A diversity of personalties makes the sport richer and more entertaining.

He explained it once
that his martial arts master when he was a kid would made them dress up/wear suits when they arrived at competitions…as a sign of professionalism. he said he wants to represent the sport well out side of the sport so he is taken seriously by sponsors…it works. he’s got Gatorade and CAA etc.
I don't think the old suit has anything to do with his sponsorships.

I’ll give him that much. I disagree with Jay on that one. I think he hits harder than Serra and I’d like to see it go into the later rds (even though it won’t).. I always find the exact moment a man’s spirit is broken so fascinating.
