UFC Quick Quote: Brandon Vera is going to push Jon Jones

Vera_medium

"His game is tight. His striking is good. His defense works good. We’ve been studying him for a while, and his biggest weakness is his inexperience. That’s the only X-factor in this game. Everything else is almost like a seasoned vet. Nobody’s ever been able to push Jones. He said he’s trying to stay comfortable and relaxed in the ring. Between me and Jones, if you just watch both of us fight, both of us has a hole -- somebody drops a hand here, somebody drops a hand there, somebody turns the wrong way and both of us have been capitalizing on other opponents (this way).  I’ve been trying to finish fights. I’m getting more and more comfortable in the 205-pound division. It’s a different pace, a different game, (and) I’m feeling a lot better."

UFC light heavyweight standout and Muay Thai striker Brandon Vera (via Sherdog.com) wants to show Jon Jones "The Truth" about where he stands in the 205-pound division when they square off at UFC on Versus 1 from the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado, on March 21. "Bones" has been obliterating the competition since his UFC debut in 2008 and could vault himself into title contention with a dominant performance over Vera. But how will he respond if Vera turns up the heat?

Jones is gonna go down a few rungs after this fight...

One of my least favorite fighters is Vera. I hope Jones does all types of wild combos and ko’s him

I was a fool to think Bisping had any chance against the Axe Murderer, and even more foolish to bet agaisnt the great Puck Head.

Tough one to call...

I’m still on the fence here; I think if Jones does crazy/unorthodox shit against Vera he could get caught, but I also don’t think that’ll be the game plan. I’m leaning toward Jones based on recent performances.

Vera is getting tired

he keeps saying what he is going to do but then doesn’t deliver and is really a boring fighter, Jones is going to be way to explosive and is the GSP of the 205 division

umm did everyone elses posts just turn to bold?

Lol someone aboves was even italicized. Anyways, this is one of my most anticipated ass whoopings of the year. I cannot wait to see Vera finally exposed and embarrassed.

Woah Woah Woah

The GSP of the 205 division?? I think you’re getting a little carried away there. He’s a great athlete and has a lot of potential but don’t go making wild statements like that

something that is hard to describe?

I would know

I’ve actually talked to Vera on a couple of different occasions and i think just the opposite. He’s very polite, down to earth, and seems like a cool motherfucker…not every fighter is going to be a rocket scientist. It will be a great fight I can feel it. Vera by sub.

BTW, Mexi you have no room to talk. Half of your posts i used to read made no sense at all.

I do agree with the Vin Diesel post though lol

It smells like shit in here

Mexi is actually a witty guy...

He used to hand out these one-liners like P-Dub…

Veras gonna fight a smart fight.

Bones wont be able to throw him aronud like he did the other guys either.

I picked Vera but it could go to Jones. I dont think itll be a blowout either way. I think itll be a very clsoe fight

Fedor played Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun and won.

I think so too although I can't pick a winner just yet. Gotta do some more research before the picks for Mac's pool are due.

whats with all the bold

Fedor invented a language that incorporates Sambo and Kimuras.

This is Jones' best test yet.

Jon Jones hasn’t fought anyone yet. Vera has been robbed a couple of times in the splits with top tier fighters. Jon Jones hasn’t seen a great strikers like Vera. I really don’t know how this is going to go down but its one exiting match. I would like to see Vera win because it make Jones more interesting for a come back.

by Pack Leader on Mar 11, 2010 12:26 PM EST reply actions

He has never been robbed

He just sucks.

Jones will will hurt him badly and hopefully send him away from the main cards forever.

by Lester The Pimp on Mar 11, 2010 12:52 PM EST up reply actions

I disagree to a certain extent

I think he beat Couture, and I think his fight against Werdum was too early of a stoppage.

I do agree that Jones will hurt him badly, and send him away form the main cards though. Vera hasn’t evolved at all. Ever since his fight w/ Tim Sylvia and his year off he has gotten worse. I think he’s still physically capable of being a good fighter, but his head is not where it used to be.

by LJ. on Mar 11, 2010 1:27 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah Vera very well may be joining Jardine as LHW gatekeepers

I think both still will be on the main card filling in spots against the higher ranked LHW and face the up and comers as well. Vera is fighting to stay relevant though and I expect to see the best Vera ever, but I still think the best Vera will lose against Jones much like Bader over Jardine.

by Puck Head on Mar 11, 2010 2:03 PM EST up reply actions

pretty damn harsh if you ask me.

He just beat Randy and he’s fighting to stay relevant? Jardine has gotten knocked out all the time while Vera has actually won 3 in a row if you count his fight against Randy as a win.

there's still something so unifying about sport in it's purest form, when athletes rise above themselves and touch greatness and in doing so remind us all that we also have greatness inside of us.

by RoBerto. on Mar 11, 2010 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

I seen Randy controlling their fight and deserve the win

The next highest ranked fighter he faced was in fact Jardine two or three fights ago and lost as well by decision. Who is the best fighter Vera has faced and won against in the LHW division, Krystof by decision I would say and I must say that doesn’t make him relevant as far as being considered even close to competeing against the top five, do you?

by Puck Head on Mar 11, 2010 3:12 PM EST up reply actions

If you don't want to count any of Vera's losses, he's actually 13-0 in the UFC.

But honestly, Randy controlled that fight, know’s how to eek out a win at this stage of his career and did enough to get the job done.

Cmon Lester.....

Give Brandon a little credit for finishing that monster known as Michael Patt.

It was a nice demonstration of leg kicking the crap out of somebody. Too bad the guy was a can. I do think he got robbed of the decision against Randy. I’d like to see Vera actually walk the walk.

Vera is still pretty dangerous

He knows a win over Jones will put him back in the mix. Will be interesting to see how Jones fairs against a top level fighter like Vera. I still have Jones in the 1st round by KO.
