What the hell is the point of having an appeal process then?
In regards the the refusal to overturn bad decisions by referee's....
This is rediculous. Why even let the fighters appeal at all? Was there any justification from the committee as to why they would not overturn it? This is an instance when a foul led directly to a fight being stopped. The same thing that happened to Anthony Johnson against Kevin Burns. He VERY CLEARLY..... VERY VERY CLEARLY... got poked in the eye and the ref mistakenly ruled it a TKO. Why is the athletic commission so afraid to overturn referee decisions when the decision is clearly INCORRECT. I understand they dont want everyone appealing anything that goes against them, but these are clear cases of incorrect decisions. Referee's and judges SHOULD be held accountable for their decisions. For all you higher ups, having accountability actually INCREASES performance.

nice vent
I agree though, when has an appeal ever gone through?
Fedor played Russian Roulette with a fully loaded gun and won.
AMERICA.....FUCK YEAH
Biggest BS is titles changing hands on accidents or documented cheating
Vitor winning the LHW belt when the loose velcro from his glove severed Randy’s eyelid in the opening seconds of the fight. The replay clearly showed that the punch missed completely but the loose velcro sliced the eyelid. But Vitor kept the belt and the loss stayed on Randy’s record.
Barnett was stripped of the title when his post-fight drug test was positive for steroids, but the result of the match wasn’t overturned. Even though they ruled that Barnett cheated and stripped him of the belt, he still kept the W on his record and Randy still has the L instead of a DQ
This betting fallout thing makes a lot of sense. I’m not a gambler, so it never occured to me, but there’d be a lot of angry bookies having to pay out on overturns and not being able to get their money back. But when the commission makes decisions based on bookies business interests instead of obvious facts and fairness, it calls into question the integrity of the whole system. If the appeals process is corrupted by the bookies, why should we believe that the judging and reffing is honest?
How far could it go?
If you believe the idea that the betting industry could be affecting this, then you have to ask how far the reach on something like this extends? Maybe a wink, a nudge, and an under the table handshake gets a particular fighter an early stoppage, or more leway. Maybe a couple of “bad” decisions are made by judges. Who knows?

I had the same thought obviously.

They're a complete and utter waste of time
Just shows how corrupt the officials are, referees should be held accountable for messing up and it’s absurd that their decisions are always upheld no matter how terrible they are.
"Not a lot of professional sports down here (in Australia)"
"We just had our best season (of TUF) last season and it was season 10"
"Nogueira is probabaly the best HW of all time"
Dana White, proving that he's clueless about Australian sports, has never heard of Fedor and is still trying to hype up TUF 10.
It’s so the commission can give the impression that there is a system in place to right wrongs.
Like when the cops investigate themselves for a wrongful shooting.

SMYJ you sound upset (inset friendly sarcastic tone)
It’s a useless process and waste of time.
But at least it gets recorded that the decision was disputed.
I want Ricardo Arona to sign with the UFC and his first fight should be James Toney. This is a win win scenario for MMA
Lol.
I just feel like there should at least be some kind of literature regarding what constitutes a overturnable (that cant be a word) decision. If these kinds of decisions can’t be overturned, then what can? I would love to know.
Oh wait, I forgot. They need to punish Nick Diaz after he pulled one of the most amazing/special subs in MMA because he smokes weed, and apparently weed makes you a better fighter. LOL.

Its the Same Way in Our Judicial System
You have the write to go to court, to sue, to do this and that. Doesnt mean your going to get what you want. Perfect Example. I can go to the courthouse and ask for a restraining order on You and I dont have to verify proof other then muttering the something like I am fearful of this person and I think he may hurt me. I need no proof but boom now you have a restraining order on you. Or how about suing an entity bigger then yourself and by time the legal costs court costs and all that you probably end up in the negative. I mean its not just MMA. Appeals have always been garbage.
At least if you go to court you get a "fair and equal" trial.
There is nothing either fair nor equal about this.

True True
But What I am saying is they get to go and give their story. So its not like they dont get a chance to appeal. They have every opportunity to explain their case. This was just a bad decision on the commissions part
