MMA Fashion Apparel Poll
via www.hotchickswithdouchebags.com
If any of you recall in my recent FanPost on the Strikeforce: Miami event that I attended, I made note about the large number of people that were wearing Affliction or TapOut. The day following the event, I was considering going to a GSP/Affliction signing in Miami where you had to have made a purchase of $50 or more within the month of January, day of signing included. Due to time constraints, I was not able to make it. However had I been able to, I no doubt would have dropped the $50 on a GSP t-shirt just to have him sign (not to wear).
I don't know if that would have made me a hypocrite, since I slammed a bunch of people that were wearing Affliction and/or TapOut shirts the night prior, but to me it seems ok to wear (or just collect) one as long as it has a fighters name on it, particularly one you are a fan of. Just wearing said name brands as fashion looks pretty toolish though IMO, much like when people wearing MMA camp shirts in public when they don't even train (a lot of guys down here who don't train wear ATT & Gracie shirts).
So, my question to all you opinionated Maniacs is the following:

Support the fighter
I met a guy in an Affliction shirt and he thought “Couture” on the back was the name of the company. Blech.
It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.
Great poll, Mexi. Very funny.

Personally, I have a nice little collection of rugby jerseys, several from my own club and a couple from teams we play against. It’s easy to tell the guys who are real rugby players from the ones who just want a T-shirt to make themselves look/feel tough. I’m of the opinion that someone needs to earn the right to wear that shit, and the same goes with fight training stuff.

amen to that Pdub
Every night i would pray to God for a new bike, then i realized God does not work that way, so i stole one and asked him to forgive me
I would NEVER buy a mma shirt
but my wife has bought a few for me. I wear them banging around the house, maybe if I run to the grocery store, but not out to a museum or zoo, lol
Makes no sense
to drop 60 bucks on a shirt when we all complain about paying 45 bucks a month on PPV.

I have a bunch because I like to support our sport.
I just leave them hanging in the closet, or wear them under normal clothes, sort of like Superman. LOL
OD is incredibly handsome, coureagous and self sacrificing in his endeavour to educate me on MMA and evolve my primitive understanding of the sport; I salute you sir.
LOL
I bet against both Paulo Thiago and Mark Coleman:
- THiago impressed the sh1t out of me.
- Coleman you owe me $20 bucks.
That way when a douche starts shit with you in a bar, you just rip off the top shirt, and the other guy will be all “oh crap, this guy has heard of MMA!”

Exactly Dubs.
And depending on which douchey MMA shirt I have on they might think I know how to choke a bitch or KO a bitch. It all really depends on what sort of poser I feel like being on that day.

Depends on your age, BZ. Personally, if you wear shirts like that and you are 30 or over, I see it as gay/toolish. Of course, that's not a judgement on people's character or anything. Just my fascist sense of fashion. :)

thanks guys...
mixed reviews. I’ll probably get it… sorry Bow…
I would only by a fighter sponsored shirt. I don’t own any MMA shirts and seeing as how it’s my fav sport I thought why not take the plunge especially for this Mania Trip. I thought of getting GSP but that would be too mainstream.
Damn there a lot of little “hoods” running around with MMA apparel. That is not me.

I wont even wear the shirts from the dojo i train at.
not in public anyways, it just screams douche if you ask me.
I'm always thinking one step ahead. Like a carpenter . . . who makes stairs.
I think it's only douche if you wear them to club trying to pick up chicks with your way too small shirt!
Nobody wants to see your man boobs and butt crack!
yeah, size is definitely an important factor.
there’s nothing impressive about a 230 pound man being able to cram himself into a medium tapout shirt.

Im just saying… if it doesn’t split, thats impressive.

I have a couple TapouT shirts which my girl bought for me but I only wear them on fight nights! Haha
I like what TapouT has done for the sport and young fighters who need a little support to keep them going. I don’t see anything wrong with the shirts as long as you wear the appropriate size, it’s just like when football or baseball fans are trying to support their teams.
Tapout gets a bad rap for being so mainstream
and I do agree that a lot of uneducated fans will sport tapout. But Tapout has been there from the start and the owners actually care about the sport and not cashing in on the fighters for a quick buck

MEXI ARE YOU KIDDING ME????
There was a GSP signing the day after??? I had no idea. I for sure would a dropped 50 to get a GSP shirt/autograph.
As for the poll, I have a bunch of Xtreme Couture shirts, but I wore those before they started getting popular in my area (Daytona Beach). I’ve seen a couple of guys at my college wearing the same ones I got, and I automatically think they just wear it for the cool design and I get pissed and dont wear mine as much.
I refuse to wear TapouT or Affliction, and make fun of the toolbags who do wear it, even though I’m fully aware of what Champ, brendog/davey, and BZ are talking about.
The only affliction shirt I wear is my Andrei Arlovski one.
And I have a few Warrior and a Sinister shirt.

Affliction can barely be considered MMA apparel.
Most people who wear it have no idea who the majority of the fighters are, and only wear it to show how cool they are.
or to spend 100 on a t shirt

It's the same as wearing any pro sport jersey but even better in my mind?
Supporting Affliction supports the fighters under Affliction like Couture, supporting SilverStar supports fighters like GSP and Silva…etc Some of it is too decorative for my liking but I do have a fairly moderate Throwdown shirt and a couple Deat Clutch shirts. One is a little to decorative for me but I wear it to the bar on fight night were i blend in with the other fans.
"He broke tim sylvia’s arm…...So what?" – Brock Lesnar
thats awesome...NICE!!!

I wear the shirts to support the fighters and the sport
The more clothing TapouT and the rest sell, the more money they have to sponsor the fighters. Plus, the shirts are advertising MMA and I’m good with pretty much anything that promotes the sport.
There are no such things as lesbians, just women who have not yet met Chuck Norris
I'm all for supporting mma
But why are the clothes so tight fitting and ugly? They remind me of clothes the pretty boy Mexicans used to wear when I was in high school. Those were the guys who only kinda spoke English, slicked the hair back with 3 flowers, and wore tons of spray deodorant in lue of cologne….
