In January 2009, fast-rising 170-pound prospect Paulo Thiago (13-1) signed with the UFC as an unknown fighter -- until a brutal first round knockout over top welterweight contender Josh Koscheck at UFC 95 put the entire division on notice.
Thiago was quickly granted a shot at another former welterweight contender when the Brazilian police officer clashed with Jon Fitch at UFC 100 later that year.
His meteoric rise was temporarily derailed by the wrestling standout via unaninous decision.
Unwavering and training harder than ever,Thiago met Jacob Volkmann at UFC 106 last November, ruining "Christmas" and proving once and for all that he belonged inside the world's largest fight promotion.
Another member of the famed American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) and potential contender to the 170-pound title, Mike Swick, was in line and once again the Constrictor Team standout made "Quick" work of his victim, choking out the former TUF star and capturing "Submission of the Night" at UFC 109.
Now it’s time to get the lowdown on Paulo Thiago as he begins to make a serious run in one of the UFC's most stacked division and we, the Maniacs, are going to help do it.

Paulo told me he had signed one-fight contract. After that, his manager Wallid Ismail got mad saying that was wrong, so on. The truth is Kos paid the price and put PT in the mix.

There was absolutey ZERO footage
of Paulo Thiago prior to the Kos fight that showed he could do a thing against Kos. I had watched 3 of his fights in full, all 3 I could find.
He looked God awful standing, just like he still does for the most part, be he was even worse then. His takedowns sucked, so there was no way he was taking Kos down. Kos had been on a little KO streak coming off Zenko and felt like he had little to worry about against Paulo. I thought the same and bet $120 on Kos as a -600 favorite. Its a fight I’ll never forget.
if someone that hasn’t personally trained with Paulo said he’d beat Kos, it was ONLY because of thier hate for Kos, not because they had confidence in Paulo’s skills.

I was invited to watch the first fight at BOPE with my friend Wesley (from Brasil Combate). I couldn’t go there. The headquarter was full of insane policeman that afternoon and PT knocked out Kosckeck! The reception might’ve been unforgettable too.
