"I have never said Frank Mir was mentally unfit or a terrible human being. What I did say is that if ANY fighter really wishes to kill someone in the Octagon they IN FACT ARE a terrible person. I also stated that I had not heard any of Mir's comments so I was not directing the comment to him. I had been buried in getting my wife through labor and the baby here safely (29 hours of labor). There are a lot of fighters that say were fighting to the death or I want to kill that guy when we fight. Fighting is an emotional sport and we all say some stupid stuff, fighters just have a tendency to say it when the mic is on, when our emotions are at our highest. Do I think Frank is unfit or a bad guy? I do not, every experience I have had with him has been good and I really do not have much negative to say about him. I expect he will be in amazing shape and seems to be as hungry as we all are to get a crack at Brock's title."
UFC heavyweight contender Shane Carwin wants to clarify his remarks directed towards Frank Mir via his official blog after the former champ ranted about killing Brock Lesnar inside the Octagon. Carwin is booked to battle Mir at UFC 111: "St. Pierre vs. Hardy" from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on March 27. However, the talk of the town has been anything but their colossal clash -- perhaps more misdirection by Mir, who is a master at pre-fight head games? Whatever the case may be, "The Engineer" seems to be just as entrenched in "Deathgate" as everyone else. Will it affect his preparations and ultimately his performance next month?

It’s clarifying. I’m not a fan of Carwin’s nice guy routine either, but he said what he said. he didn’t say any fighter who says those things are bad. He said that any fighter who really wishes those things to happen are bad.

He’s a weasel who can’t form his own opinion and just says what he thinks people want to hear without actually saying anything meaningful. He is the biggest kiss up in MMA and he has his head so far up Mir’s arse that it’s gotten beyond a joke.

Other than that this seems to be a clear cut case of a bunch of haters being haters. I am by no means a Carwin nuthugger at all, but he is not back peddling here. As a matter of a fact he is doing the opposite, he is doing what most of you want… FOR HIM TO STAND BEHIND WHAT HE SAID. Because, what he said was if anyone really meant what they said then they were eiter a bad person or not fit for fighting, and he stands behind that statement. Not some twisted version of that, that the media and fans came up with.

I hate Murr and will be cheering for Carwin but I think Murrrrrr out classes him. Shane has 2 things going for him, 1/2 punch KO power and from what it seems, a systematically driven mind that seems to help him out in the cage.

…that everyone bashes Carwin for not being real, while Mir gets crucified, for being real. Essentially, people will either love you or hate you regardless of how you portray yourself in the media. Mir for whatever reason rubs a lot of people the wrong way.
I for one, am a Frank Mir fan. Anyone who can come back from what he’s come back from and compete at such a high level is an inspiration.
Maybe we need to spend a little less time dissecting what these fighters are saying in the downtime between cards and get a hobby or three.

I don't like either of them
Carwin has really rubbed me the wrong way lately and has been behaving like a kiss up and a backstabber whilst Mir is just an arrogant git. However I wouldn’t be as critical about them if they weren’t getting unjust title opportunities purely because of their annoying talk to the media. Because them 2 are holding back 2 of my favourite HWs and talking crap about another of my favourites I am never going to say anything impartial but Carwin retracting statements and Mir saying that he wants to break Brock’s neck and kill him makes it very easy for people like me to criticise them.

Can someone please explain to me why everyone hates this guy so much??
I’ve personally always found his story to be very inspirational and I really don’t see anything wrong with his pre-fight trash talk. If anyone can talk about bringing someone’s arm home, I’d say Mir would be one of the few who could back it up (see Tim Silvia’s forearm).
I just don’t get it…..

That comment alone sums up what a terrible person Mir is, the fact that he actually called out Brock for being a bad role model makes me dislike the man even more.
